Not bad, maybe after cocking your gun, laying on the floor off to the side pointed up at the door. Speaker phone not on the ground near you lol
I don't think I'll ever have to worry about it. I also think that prayer, if it was to happen, would take care of it and calling the police and waving a gun would only get it through the thick skull of people who respect the gun.

You are probably right and I sincerely hope that you and everyone else on CC never actually have to experience something like that. I like *worst case scenarios so that when an emergency happens. I'm not sitting there thinking. CRAP WHAT SHOULD I DO?! I like having an action plan. That's just me :) I think about car accidents and cutting off seat belts also. Great reason to carry a knife :)

Oh, and never underestimate that slippery bathtub. The unsuspected killer :/

I just remembered another situation where God showed up. Back in the early 90's, I was going into this inner-city DMV to ask a quick question (I needed directions and was lost in the "wrong" area) and yes I was the only white person in the entire DMV or DMV parking lot.

Now I'm 6' 220, but this HUGE black thug came up to me (this guy was phenom enormous and literally towered over me). I held up my hand and told him to keep his distance as he approached so he started trying to put me at ease with his speech obviously as a precursor for going for a knockout (internal alarms were ringing and the Lord was telling me everything I needed to know about this guy).

Get this though, I opened my mouth to tell him I knew what he was about and there would be no free shot but what came out was something totally different.

God simply took over and I found myself telling this guy, "Praise God, He's so good" and literally spent two minutes simply praising God in front of this guy.

God had totally taken over and it wasn't me doing it. I was just along for the ride.

The man's countenance changed and he walked off with a "I'm not going to let you con me with that God stuff anymore" look on his face.

I was like, "what just happened God? You said all that stuff through me and it worked."

I have no explanation, of course, other than what happened. I don't know the man. I don't know why praising God was enough to dissuade that particular individual from attempting to assault and rob me when it wouldn't have someone else. I just know what happened. But God knew.
Yep. I hate to sound cliche, but talking to God doesn't hurt anything at all. Offer up a prayer: "I don't feel safe; I need You to mash faces if necessary." It's legitimate. Especially in the situation, He acts or gets you to act, but the violence is cancelled out when He gets a say: "No harm will befall you; no evil will come near [you]."

It's important to be aware. God protects your behind; you watch your before. That means don't be lazy. Thanksgiving '08, three guys visited me with bad intentions, pretending to be friends. I smelled it on them and was already checking out who I should hit first and where, etc. When I acted like I didn't know (innocence) and also didn't back down or run in fear (confidence), they didn't know what to do and finally shuffled off. It was like the scene where the religious wanted to stone the woman: when Jesus spoke wisdom to them, they were literally disarmed (they became unable to stone her; they weren't just bowing to the wisdom of some wise man but wanted her dead... Jesus' wisdom bound them so they couldn't do what they made up their hearts and minds to); they could do nothing but walk off. In the same way, these three guys, baffled by a show of innocence and confidence, were disarmed. I wouldn't advise anyone to try it however until you grasp how people think and know (not think) you'll be safe. But again, it's best to communicate with God as much as possible which is a much greater guarantee of safety than anything else: "Because you have made the Most High... your dwelling place... He will command His angels concerning you :) to keep you in ALL your ways."

I have. I've had haul out drag out fights with people who were trying to take something from me or assault me. It started young in public city schools over trivial things like someone trying to steal my ball. In fact, I had a legendary fight once with a fresh off the boat Cambodian refugee right in the middle of the high school gym because he tried to steal my basketball from me with force. The dude knew gung fu but my boxing and Okinawan karate was enough to allow me to walk away from that. Call it a draw but nobody ever tried to steal my basketball from that school again and I went to like nine schools K-12th growing up.

Of course, as you get older things progress. As a man in my early twenties, I had to deal with some knarly evil people living in dirt cheap apartments in big cities. Sometimes they escalated beyond one on one if they were a gang member. Do the math. That means people are hunting you with an eye toward murdering you because you beat up their "homie" [in self-defense]. I learned the thousand and one things you need to know to survive. Fortunately, not many of the wicked are all that intelligent. That makes it easier.

As far as I know, they all managed to end up dead from violence, sickness, and addiction; imprisoned; or simply moved away to get away from the three strike law here because of the ignorant criminal lives they chose to lead.

I am not personally aware of anyone from my pre-Christ past becoming a Christian or a moral person. Not a single one (and yes I witnessed to everyone I knew when I converted to Christianity but nobody was interested).

My choice; on the other hand, was to believe in God and follow Christ and I did it in my mid-twenties and never looked back. That took me out of "the game." The result is that I'm still standing and without any criminal record whatsoever other than the normal traffic infractions we get in life.

I thank God for that. I value having a squeaky clean record, having real integrity, having godly morals, etc... and all that came from God. He gets the glory for it.

I always had enough of a compass to keep me from going over the edge like so many others that I knew but He (e.g. God) really made me see the importance of these good character attributes after I began following Him. So, I do owe my integrity, morals, and work ethic to God. I'm not perfect or anything and I still have a stubborn area I'm working on to purify in my life but it's just the normal stuff we face each day, nothing more.

I've never had to defend myself before from any attack. I did punish someone with a 2x4 once for threatening to kill me and he probably found God afterward. I only used the 2x4 because he wasn't worth the energy or any part of my body touching him. He didn't show in court. If I ever have the unfortunate instance of having to defend myself or someone else, the other person can testify that what parents tell you when you're little us a lie: "You never solve anything by hitting someone." I make sure I'm not in the wrong so if wrong comes to me, I'm fully justified to react, and the person may send someone else if it was that type of situation, but they'll never try it again that's for absolute sure.

Amen to that. We all grow up differently, and God can work out all the bad into good (look at David's mighty men). Whether people refuse to attack because we're too innocent or too confident, we definitely want God to be the One primarily doing the protecting. I think He does a really outstanding job.

It could go either way in my experience Allin. God may intervene and dispel the threat or allow you to learn a hard lesson in preparedness. I've been through both in my lifetime.

If it's the latter, I hope you won't have to spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair (assuming you survive). Google real crime scene photos.

When I said it's all one thing I meant it. Proceed in naiveté at your own risk.

Deadtossin, you'll appreciate this. No one present in the gym that day was sophisticated enough to know what I'm about to tell you but he and I certainly did.

In the middle of the fight, he went for a vibrating palm. I kid you not. That's where they try to destroy the muscles around the diaphragm so that after the fight they deteriorate and you die later putting them away from the scene.

This kid wasn't playing. He was off the boat from war torn Cambodia. I was so not expecting it that he half caught me with it. At some point I remember we both disengaged and went our separate ways out of the gym (and to assess the damage). I don't know if he went home for the day or what but I actually went to class with my beaten body... lol. We never got in any trouble for that. If it were today, of course, we would have. It would probably be all over the Internet today from a cell phone... lol.

BUT, I did spent the rest of the day sweating about that vibrating palm attempt. Thankfully, he didn't catch me with it properly. Real talk.

Just to clarify, I'm not talking about fictional fantasy Dim Mak or any such nonsense. I'm talking about a real old school gung fu strike.

I would never want to relive those days. I LIKE being a peaceful Christian... lol. I like hugs from friends at church in my old age... lol.

Hi Liza

Have you ever been attacked? What is right and wrong gets rather fuzzy when one's life is on the line. And the one who is in the wrong place at the wrong time, is not me, but the intruder.

She's such a cutie but unfortunately these good hearted wonderful people vote. That means you end up in prison after shooting a home invader in the middle of the night that may or may not have been there with very bad intent.

That's the downside of nice people. They just don't understand that we live in a world of people that includes some who fantasize about doing terrible things to them.

So they vote to make good people into felons and empower and enable very bad people. And it's so easy that they can just check boxes to do it with a mail in ballot from their home while watching American idol on their television.

I am familiar with this "innocence, confidence" It does work as you say. Not being intimidated and being ready shows you're formidable. By being innocent, it doesn't play against their pride, it leaves them many ways out. I completely agree. You are lucky that you haven't had it go beyond that though. I have.

Tell you what 4enlightenment. It's one thing to imagine these situations from a seat in your home. In the moment though? you (well I) can easily tell someones intentions. They can even try to hide it with words or looking away. There are a lot of things. The way they stand, the look in their eyes. The energy. He said it best. "warning bells" man. For real.

In the states my life was threaded two times. The first one was a renter of mine, and he threaded too kill me if I evicted him. I kept my cool and walked away and called 911. He was taken away within the hour and the judge told him never approach me again, to I never saw him again. The second time I had an angry man banging on my door because his son was making my apt. a whore house, I told the son to stop whoring in my apt. I was waiting with my shot gun inside , so, I warned him, "you brake down my door, sir, you will never walk away", He believed me ,so he walked away to tell the story, and his son moved out. In the Philippines I have faced death twice. I shouted the first man down, so my wife and neighbors came to see what the problem was. He put his gun away, and came over and apologized. He soon moved away. The second time was as I was working on the village road in front of our home. The neighbor didn't like what I was doing. So he came running and slapped my face. I backed away slowly with my shovel in hand. The next day, I and two boys were working again on the same spot; I strapped on my 14" knife, and was ready. Would you believe this, the same man and his brother came running with clubs, "We will kill you" . I drew my knife saying very loud, " which of you want it first?" I slowly, started to back away. They saw the knife and stopped. By then, we had a crowd in the road, They kept yelling, then went away. Do you know, it took me all day to get the police to come and talks some sense into their heads, Don't mess with this Americano. I always carry a switch blade with me, at all times. I always carry a book bag and a knife, Everyone knows I carry a weapon. I always have 5 weapons, 2hands, 2 feet, i knife. I will defend my self, to my death, before I an kidnapped. I could never live in captivity , and my wife has no money to pay a ransom. Love to all, Hoffco

There was recently a man in our town who was serial raping women. He was a delivery guy for a local mattress store. He would stake girls out at the local hobby lobby, follow them home, rape them, take them to the cash machine and take them back home. Liza....the world is a bad place so I suggest you practice awareness and not assume that you are always safe.....especially in a big city. Self defense is more than jabbing a key in someones eye...it can come down to knowing what to say or not to say to someone who has you at their mercy.

He's trolling. Obviously, God knew that it was a serious enough situation that He decided to take over on my behalf speaking words through me that were not my own for my protection and his benefit. A very cool experience.

And yes, definitely "warning bells" were ringing.

That's common here. Lots of illegal alien "tourists" come up from Mexico and Central America, rape some women, and then it's back over the border. Holiday finished (until next time).

Sometimes our government catches them but since they're illegal, they get transferred to ICE and then often released without ever going to trial. Seriously, I'm not making it up. Here's 36,000 of them just last year:

ICE Document Details 36,000 Criminal Alien Releases in 2013 | Center for Immigration Studies
