Why are you supposing this has to be talking about a face to face encounter with God? Even The H. P. who entered "before the presence of the Lord" in the holy of holies did not see God face to face. The rope was tied to their ankles so that in the event that the H. P. entered with any kind of defilement or defiled himself in any way and was "slain before the Lord," they could be dragged him out.
I believe that the scripture in Job is referring to the first creation. We are the re creation.
