When Constantine became the ruler of the Roman Empire, the proclaimed Christians were divided over the relationship between God and God's Son, Jesus Christ. The questions was, was Jesus God himself, as Christians did not believe that he was or was he created by God. In hopes of settling this matter, Constantine summoned the church leaders to Nicaea, not because he sought any religious truth but he did not want the Roman Empire divided. The Constantine made his request, that the bishops reach an unanimous accord on these matters, as the bishops had no clear evidence, they remained divided, as the Constantine gave an order to the council, to adopt the ambiguous notion, that Jesus himself was one substance with the Father, as this choice was an unbiblical Greek philosophical belief laid for the foundation of the trinity doctrine and has essentially taken the form it has ti day, under the order of the Constantine himself and carried out by the bishops, as the trinity then was set up in the church creeds by the end of the forth century. Early Christians did not believe Jesus was God himself, they also did not believe, that the Holy Spirit was an actual person. 1Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things and we in him and to one Lord Jesus Christ by whom are all things and we by him.
