Do any of us believe God would withold healing from a person out of shape? Would He demand they take up a new diet before He acted on their behalf?
No..absolutely not...

Jesus never once said to someone coming to get healed - "No..can't heal you today as you have been eating MacDonalds."

( What I found funny is that all those that came to Jesus for healing - they were all on the Mediterranean diet..lol )

Jesus never said to anyone - "Can't heal you today because you have not exercised enough "

LOL..that as funny...that made me laugh out loud..we finally disagree..lol

I agree with what you said but I think people sometimes need to grow into the understanding and enlightenment of the Holy Spirit and need to time to grow in what they are to do. I always encourage people to have faith in trusting God for your health. I take my vitamins thanking God that He is the one that makes me healthy.

Sometimes not all things are as they appear. I saw a study on organic brown rice from China and it was contaminated with heavy metals. In these types of situations - we could be eating what we think is "healthy" but the Holy Spirit may say "stop eating that".

I like to say it this way - I don't eat good food to make me healthy - I eat good food because I am healthy. Jesus is our health!
Kinda reminds me of the whole coffee is bad for you thing..(therefore a sin) when recent research has proven its one on the most healthy things you can do for the long term memory and fights off alzhemers by around 70% ... But some just swore its was a "sin" and unhealthy

Hey...have you ever tried Mr. Pibb? I used to drink that when I lived in Texas in the late 70's..it was kind of like a cherry coke..without the cocaine though....:).

No natural food or drink can "defile" a man because it has nothing to do with matters of the heart, and it is the heart the Lord looks upon. Also physical fitness is of little profit when it comes to spiritual matters. That's not to say we should be gluttons, but food and drink does not commend us to God. It is written "Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them."

People should be more concerning about what spiritual meat their eating for the preserving of the soul.

1 Corinthians 8:8
But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

Interesting that this subject was brought up. I have started living a whole new lifestyle lately and have had similar queries for myself. Am I walking in the spirit ? ... is this spirit-induced or am I walking in the flesh ? ... I really don't know ...

A couple months ago I switched over from mediocre food and junk food to eating a new super healthy diet ... mostly veggies, nuts, seeds and fruits with a small amount of meats ... then I started working out at the gym and that has bloomed into full out body-building! It's going well and I am seeing much progress on all fronts.

I thank God for the progress ... but still have yet to come to the conclusion whether this is from God or from me. I DUNNO! :D

This might give you an answer. I bet you feel so much better now...:) ( I think if Mitspa can drink coffee then I can "bet" on you without the threat of hell fire and brimstone...lol )

Philippians 2:13 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

I DO feel much much better ... ...... I feel wonderful!

I suppose someone who is the picture of health and radiates energy and vitality might be a better witness for God?

I KNOW God wants us to eat well (book of Daniel proves that it is beneficial)

I suppose that my worries about the gym stem from Paul's words to Timothy ... 1 TIMOTHY 4:8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

But reading them again now ... it seems it's not something negative at all - it has "some value" ... and does not oppose or conflict with godliness. Maybe God has a reason for me being there... or a reason for me to get in shape.

Thank you Bruce ... you made me feel better about it ... you're right ... God works for our good in all things. :)

PS: I drink coffee too! LOL

Wow some great honesty on this thread ... I would say the general rule of moderation in all things apply to our diet and our exercise ...these bodies of sin and death will never overcome death ..but can God touch any activity we do or don't do if done in faith? I will say I have some great Christian friends who seem to be afraid to eat anything unhealthy ..while they claim absolute trust in God ...Its just so clear that they really trust in their own ability to eat and exercise ...These folks are often sick and that often just drives them more toward the ideas of self preservation ..instead of really trusting the Lord. I think and know ,walking in the Spirit, requires a REAL trust in the Lord ..for all things that pertain to life and godliness.

I wonder if you would apply the same rule to the things you own. Like would you use the wrong weight motor oil in your car trusting the lord that it would be OK? Or change your oil every 15,000 miles because you trust in the lord?

Well my car is not the Temple of the Holy Spirit ..it does not have clear and evident promises that God will give life to our mortal bodies ... This "wisdom" of self salvation is very common worldly wisdom, that you find in every false religion in the world... Only true Christianity says our health is based on a Life in us greater than our own ability or wisdom.

So I had a little debate kinda thing going on yesterday with a brother (I hate debates by the way)

We were discussing fast food.. I said I didn't like it, He said he did..

My argument was that we should use wisdom in what we put in our bodies.. God wants us to be healthy and look after our bodies..

His was that we should bless our food then anything was safe to eat... (Mark 7:19)

I kinda disagreed with the way this was being used as more of an excuse to fill yaself full of rubbish, and thought it was taken out of context slightly.. Mcdonalds or KFC were not around when this scripture was written, Most things then would of been healthy anyway... Not processed like it is today.

My friend asked if what I was saying was mans wisdom or Gods... He said he eats what he eats and then trusts God to look after his body. I strongly disagreed with that.

I woke up this morning though and though about some stuff... There is a lot of areas in my life still that I know I haven't fully surrendered to the Lord.. Self preservation is an ugly thing, I know I still try and preserve myself a lot.. I fail miserably. So this has made me think a little...

Be great to hear back from what u all think. I don't want to come across like my argument is valid and his isn't.. I want to grow and learn so everything i say is with humility.. Correct me if u see fit.
Every extreme is wrong.
To say "God will protect me" and smoke, drink, eat rubbish, do not use safety belts, do not use any treatment etc.
But also to be worried too much about our life "what to eat, what to drink, what to wear...".

IMHO, we should live rational life, dont do stupid things, use our brains (thats why we have it), but in all of it, we should trust God He will guide our paths, even if our wisdom fails.

This seems to be a very misunderstood among the Christian community. It is due to not understanding scriptures that were referencing other scriptures.

To explain this to my mother, I used some examples of meats and plants that are poisonous and therefore not edible in response to the scriptures that people think says you can eat whatever you want as long as you give thanks. In those scriptures, it say "that God created to be received...". So then, God did not create all plants and animals to be edible. You can eat nightshade and give thanks to God for it, but you will die as God did not create it to be eaten. So what are the scriptures referencing when saying "God created to be received..."? There is only one place that this is clarified and that is in the old testament.

People argue about this because there are things in the list that they like to eat. Pork for instance. I like bacon. God said that pork is unclean and was not created for consumption. Even modern science will tell you that pork is really bad for you. It should be good enough for us that God said it. I have finally given up pork and will live healthier and maybe longer as a result.

It wasn't until I noticed that doctors were in agreement (although they don't know) with the things listed as clean and unclean that I realized that God gave us a list for a healthy diet. Now if I could find his recipe for a milkshake to go along with it, I will be all set. :p

Anyways, instead of just directly answering your question, I thought I would rather just share information and let you decide on your own. I hope that any of this helps.

P.S. I have also noticed that the majority of the diet systems that exist actually follow the diet that God layed out for us. Interesting, huh.

The New Testament teaches moderation in all things. ...specifically food and makes absolute clear all "food" ...NOT poisonous plants should be blessed and eaten with thankfulness. The scriptures even teach a "real" believer could drink poison as an example of Gods supernatural protection. The wisdom you are putting forth here is simply mans wisdom...not the wisdom of God.

The bible teaches moderation in all things..thats the only biblical standard ...and true Christianity is a "extreme" ... its not a "lukewarm" process.

Mr 16:17 "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;
18 "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

Stupidity in one's lifestyle is not the right extreme :) And to use brain in our heads is not to be "lukewarm".

Mr 16:17 "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;
18 "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
Please, do not try at home.
