I hear it and remind myself of it daily being fully convinced that it is not just for the unbeliever but very essential for the believer as well. Some Christians make the mistake of saying 'yes, I already know about the message of the cross but I have gone on to deeper things'. Hmmm, you don't get much deeper than pondering that God became man let alone suffered a cruel death in our stead, rising victorious over death, the devil and hell offering His Free Gift (Himself) for our salvation. The best way to go on to sanctification is by holding dear the Gospel truths.

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Cor. 1:18)

John 5:24
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

αμην hebrew transliterated word
amen am-ane': firm, i.e. (figuratively) trustworthy; adverbially, surely (often as interjection, so be it) -- amen, verily.

for as many as are promises of God, in Him are the Yes, and in Him the Amen, for glory to God through us (2 Cor. 1:20 YLT)

It's clear to see that

"did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped"

is implying that Jesus is not God.

It's clear to see that

thoughtG2233 it notG3756 robberyG725 to beG1511 equalG2470 with God:G2316

is implying that Jesus is God. I would not read any "Bible" that is indicating that Jesus is not God.

hi Jon4TheCross:
you're just not seeing what it means. that's okay. put your mind at ease:)
ESV absolutely teaches Jesus is God:)
you know that our translations, including KJV, are not infallible in and of themselves, don't you?
i use and love the KJV.
but i refer you to Hebrews 4:8 to see the KJV translators (who, trembling, let us know by letter they were fallible) made a mistake. not a small one either.
but it's all good.
God Bless.

John 6:40
For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

John 6:45
It is written in the Prophets: 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to Me.

Truth indeed.

John 17

These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: 2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 4I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
6I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. 7Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 8For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. 9I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. 11And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. 12While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

13And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

22And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. 24Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

25O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. 26And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

ευαγγελιον noun - accusative singular neuter
euaggelion yoo-ang-ghel'-ee-on: a good message, i.e. the gospel -- gospel.

Cognate: 2098 euaggélion – the Gospel – literally, "God's good news." See 2097 (euangelizō). The Gospel (2098 /euaggélion) includes the entire Bible, i.e. it is not limited to how a person becomes a Christian.

2097 euaggelízō (from 2095 /eú, "good, well" and angellō, "announce, herald") – properly, proclaim "the good message" (good news). In the NT, 2097 (euaggelízō) refers to sharing the full Gospel of Christ – literally, "gospelizing" that announces the complete message of "the good news" (the Lord's glad tidings).

Let's talk about the Good News:)
anything and everything:)

Well, :) just now in reading your post. :)
Also everyday, in every moment one can, wether it be read, in thought, spoken or seen. :)
There was a time when I thought undestanding and reading the bible was impossible for me.
(dilexia made reading difficult at best for me)
But Jesus asked me to read the bible, front to back, even though I was not sure how, I obeyed.
The mirical was I was able to read it, and understand alot, and what I did not yet understand, has been given in every moment and thought of each day, and understanding, like a mountain stream, continuas and overflowing.
Now when I hear or read another share the scriptures, I no longer feel lacking or lost, but filled and found.
The wrods which at one time in my life seemed so distant, now are close and comforting.
The greatest part is that when needed to witness or share, the words are given and spoken.

There is no shame in knowing the gospel, only in not wanting to know.

His word is a lamp unto my feet.
I may not know it perfectly,:) but all given, is made perfect. :)
I can now see and know the way, because Jesus shows me in word, by His Holy Spirit.

Read and learn the gospel, scriptures, and know what the Lord will do and does. :)

God bless

It really depends on what one would consider the gospel. In my area the "gospel" that is being preached states that Jesus died on the for the forgiveness of past, present and future sin so that you and I might have eternal life, none of which I take issue with. Then they go on to say that believers are nothing more "sinners saved by grace", slaves to the desires of the flesh, the reason why Christ had to go to the cross. I take no issue with that statement either. Unfortunately, they stop right there and go no further into the Word of God.

I take issue with this version of the "gospel" because it presents only a half truth. It is a weak and anemic "gospel" that leaves believers bound in sin and a slave to the flesh thus much of the modern Church looks no different than the world as a result. It is a powerless "gospel" that leaves sinners scoffing at a Church that is involved in worse sin than they are and they want no part of it. Neither do I.

This "gospel" ignores verses like:

"For whatever is born of God is victorious over the world; and this is the victory that conquers the world, even our faith." - 1 John 5:4

"Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us." - Romans 8:37

"He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son." - Revelations 21:7

"To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations." - Revelation 2:26

In Christ Alone - Stuart Townend and Keith Getty

In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! who took on flesh
Fulness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones he came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied -
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave he rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine -
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life's first cry to final breath.
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.
