Imperatives are always based on indicatives? Let's start there. Why are imperatives always based on indictatives?
it's like this :)

I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. (Jn 15:5)

It is like the marriage union. We don’t work to get married, we work out what we already .

Philippians 2 is speaking of an imputed righteousness. Seeing no man will be found with a righteousness of their own selves.
Christ is the author and finisher,or alpha and omega of His labor of love.

The use of the word faith (Christs) below is not of our own selves lest any man boast in false pride.

Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and "it was imputed unto him" for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.Jam 2:23

It is by His faith that makes His work perfect (complete.) If we attribute the faith of Christ according to His labor of love to Abraham it would not be imputed. Then a person would be responsible for blasphemy (attributing the faith of Christ ,as the work of God to Abraham or any man .

I think it is why we begin chapter 2 of James with the commandments not to . It sets the stage for the rest of the chapter which ends with a person blaspheming the holy name by which we called heaven ward ..

Jam 2:1 My brethren, "have not" the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

The conclusion to the matter..

Jam 2:7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

I mean that God never commands us to do anything, but what He provides complete sufficiency for by His grace. He is Himself the very dynamic of His own demands.
What about the Ten Commandments?

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

I mean that God never commands us to do anything, but what He provides complete sufficiency for by His grace. He is Himself the very dynamic of His own demands.[/QUOTE]What about the Ten Commandments?

I think people miss the point, the term "work out" is actually a mining term, it means to take what you have been given, and craft it, Mine it, Make it worth something. Salvation is already yours. What paul is saying is craft your salvation in a way that is meaningful.

Salvation is yours. It is NOT saying work to earn salvation, it is saying take what you already have and make it worth something,, ie, work it out in a way it affects others. Bears fruit, and brings others to christ (as a light in darkness) abd be careful, because things we do can put out that light.

Do a simple Google search on the commands of the New Testament. Gosh, do something, 'cause your answers are messed up. I guess grace-onlyists don't include the Bible. Sheesh.

Unquote:

Look what happens when we actually read the whole post that someone posts. The real truth gets seen for what it really is. This stops the "twisting" and mis-representing of what is really being said by someone to try to make it "appear" to be something else entirely.

What a pathetic, obvious, and deliberate attempt to change the meaning of what was actually said. Do you really think folks are unaware of such schemes?

And that is the very reason to not interact with people that deliberately act with this sort of behavior. It's ungodly and causes nothing but strife and division and there is no need of it whatsoever.

Thank God for Romans 16:17 to guide us on what to do with this sort of behavior.

We all seem to be in agreement that we need Jesus to save us from our sin, so what is Paul talking about here?

[12] Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
[13] for God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Phil 2:12-13 RSV
It means energise out what God has already energised in.

That's your problem. You make lists to observe rather than taking them in context.

Grace only IS what the Bible is all about. What God had done for men. Its the story from beginning to end.

If we accept that the bible uses salvation in a number of ways, for example, it tells us that 'we are saved', we are being saved, 'we will be saved' it therefore is very important when dealing with texts like this. What it is not is telling us to work for our salvation for there are a numerous amount of scriptures that clearly go against that false teaching. IMO i take it to mean that we are to make our salvation sure. Paul says work out 'YOUR SALVATION". This implies he is talking to people that are saved already. Then he says "knowing it is God who works in you". God doesnt work within unbelievers but rather his children/ his believers, thanks to the spirit which dwells in us. Paul concludes it is God who works salvation in you and you are to work to make it sure, not to attain it. You are confirming and making salvation sure in your life by testing it under refined fire and faith.
Excellent and I agree!

If I did it was unintentional. Besides, WHY would I EVEN WANT to act like you & G777? Trust me, totally unintentional.

But, now that it's done, tell me.....HOW DOES IT FEEL to be done the way YOU do everybody else?

Please take note that G777 usually seems nice & pious until the right moment..... THEN he comes out with all implications that his opponent is some big sorry so-&-so. This will happen with him at every opportunity.

I made a mistake..... & I'll admit it even before my enemies, 'cause I'm not ashamed to be imperfect.

Now, let them admit that.

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers
[5.Exhortation and Commendation (Philippians 2:12-30).(1) EXHORTATION TO WORK OUT THEIR SALVATION through the in working of God, and so to be lights in the world, and the glory of the Apostle, even in the hour of martyrdom (Philippians 2:12-18).

I see it means that what the Father has "worked in" us thru Jesus Christ should be "worked out" by our new abilities we never had before to bring glory to Christ & witness what salvation can do.

No, you grace-onlyists have it all perverted. GRACE IS NOT WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT. It's about God so loving the world. It's about the plan of salvation which includes grace, BUT also includes faith, true repentance, fruits of repentance, & working out your salvation, or working for God with the abilities he gave you to bring forth fruit, for fruitless christians are rejected.

Go back & read the OT & find out what God thinks about the sluggard & what He does with them. That hasn't changed. As a matter of fact, He expects more from us because of the grace given to us to make us the Sons of God!

Grace-onlyists now have a new name: lazy-gracers. They are the NT sluggards.
