You would like Ron Paul if it wasn't that you believe everyone is part of a conspiracy regardless of whether they are or aren't.
no, i liked him for a long time.
i thought hey....here's the guy.
but the devil is in the details.

i still like him better than the others.

good point Beth. the problem is greed.

if you are very big and very inward with very much and are very greedy, that's when we see the trouble.
big and powerful greedy has a way of growing, ya know?:)
at some point it's no longer about the money so yup...it is greed.

good call.
One thing I do know is many of the rich do give to charity, their community, etc. But they don't tell about it. They have no desire to brag about what they give and who they give it to. It is kept silent. Unfortunately, silence has its downfalls. They are talked about, slandered, told they are crooks and so on.

up here, it's the poor and the middle class who donate directly to their communities (food banks, etc); and religious organizations, consistently even without tax incentives.

the wealthy donate to the arts; museums and their favorite educational institutions, etc - which is great. we need that too.

the non-profit sector is subsidized by the govt % per donation, so in the end, the tax payer picks up the tab for the subsidized part. i suppose it all works out in the end.

i guess we'll see what happens if obama (or someone else) puts a cap on or eliminated the incentives down there.
hopefully the community stuff that was supported by the poor and middle class would be picked up by the rich, but then harvard ; the opera, and planned parenthood would struggle.

we must be talking about a different species between here and there:)
or different definitions of rich.

the rich who do give to their communities wouldn't be the greedy ppl referred to.

The liberal wealthy may donate to the arts.

Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227). -- Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood.
-- Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush.
-- Bush carried 24 of the 25 states where charitable giving was above average.
-- In the 10 reddest states, in which Bush got more than 60 percent majorities, the average percentage of personal income donated to charity was 3.5. Residents of the bluest states, which gave Bush less than 40 percent, donated just 1.9 percent.
-- People who reject the idea that "government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality" give an average of four times more than people who accept that proposition

RealClearPolitics - Articles - Conservatives More Liberal Givers

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle gave $10,772 of the $1.2 million they earned from 2000 through 2004 to charities, or less than 1 percent, according to tax returns for those years released today by his campaign.
The Obamas increased the amount they gave to charity when their income rose in 2005 and 2006 after the Illinois senator published a bestselling book. The $137,622 they gave over those two years amounted to more than 5 percent of their $2.6 million income.
Romney charitable contributions

2010 $21.7 million $2.98 million 13.73%
2011 (est) $20.9 million $4 million 19.14%

Salvation will never come through a political party. Certainly not the parties that preach compassion.

Men who boast of their compassion tend to boast also of their ability to redeem. If a party preaches personal redemption through outside Christ, run.

I was intrigued.

Apparently 80% of his money goes to the Mormon church. Still some good donations to some other institutions.

Romney’s Ungenerous Donations | The Nation

1. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints: $4,781,000
2. Brigham Young University: $525,000
3. The United Way: $177,000
4. Right to Play: $111,500
5. The George W. Bush Library: $100,000
6. Operation Kids: $85,000
7. Center For Treatment of Pediatric MS: $75,000
8. Harvard Business School: $70,000
9. City Year: $65,000
10. Deseret International: $50,000
Weber State University: $50,000

In 2009 95% of his money went to the Mormons. Some funnelled through his private foundation.

Where did President Obama give?

Since Mitt is a Mormon and Mormons as a rule are strict tithers it's no surprise to me that the larger percentage of his charitable giving ends up there. Although I don't agree with the heresies within the LDS, in my experience it is rare that you find someone from LDS on welfare or other form of government assistance. Why? Because LDS outdoes most Protestant churches in giving and as a result they are able to fund fantastic church operated food banks and other financial assistance programs.

When's the last time you saw a freemason on welfare & public assistance, or in the unemployment line?
