Many of those "cutesy cartoons" are quite disturbing in how young women and girls are portrayed :( Of course that is a problem in many cultures, so Asians are not alone in this.

I have had an Asian boss for the last thirty five years, and worked with many Asians in that time. My original boss completely took advantage of the Asian women's submissive natures, making them work when they wanted holidays, or forcing them to take time off without pay, which is actually illegal as far as I know... or use up their holidays when he wanted them to, and not when they wanted to. I will never forget the time one of my co-workers came to me to request that I ask our boss if she could have holidays, specifying the time she wanted, and I told her I would TELL our boss that she would be taking that time off. There were about three of them standing there all giggling into their hands at my response; maybe that is what they were hoping I would say? They knew I was not like them when it came to our boss :p
See you're cool magenta i admire your ability to be able to be so direct and demanding, anyway that's exactly the opposite of what any Christian man should be like even though it's a woman. If you're like that you're disgusting but if you're a man and are like that you're worse then disgusting i have no words for how much i despise your lack of masculinity and leadership and you should think about your life decisions honestly. I can honestly say that i have a pretty good amount of respect for women since i was raised by women I can't stand when men try to take advantage of them and learning the bible definitely made me despise them more xD im js most guys are so selfish maybe that's why we're so miserable all the time in the USA

Take a look into "Beating Trauma with Elisabeth Corey". She's a prime candidate to illustrate that this is a global crisis, not particular to any asian subculture at all. Her life and road to recovery is so inspirational, I've spoken to her one on one and there would've been thousands of times as an infant that she wished her biggest problem was being adopted out of the western family she was born into.
Thanks for the recommendation. I will have to put it on my list. I think we are aware that sexual slavery is a global problem, but access to children for sex is much easier in many Asian countries. Men in the west will travel to Thailand for the express purpose of exploiting young children for sex. It is a problem everywhere, but it is blatant and somewhat encouraged by some Asian countries in order to benefit from the tourist dollars these perverted men bring with them.

I am glad you brought up the cutesy cartoons. In Japanese culture, it is sexy when women dress in school girl uniform and pig tails, appearing to be adolescent. This is also seen in anime. The cartoons sexualize school girls. Anyone who has ever been around young girls or has been a young girl, knows that teen girls are not ready to have sex (emotionally or mentally) and especially not with a grown man.

...How did this thread get to dumping on anime, again?

As a self-claimed weeaboo, I declare that this is not okay!

(Though...yeah, I'm feel quite uncomfortable about some of the more lewd aspects...)

I reject anime, sorry, I don’t know what a weeaboo is. Is it a type of designer dog- like a peekapoo?

Lol, I reject Star Wars, also. However, I do not reject Star Wars as intensely as I reject anime. Given the right fellow, I’d watch Star Wars with him and let him explain it to me.

Yes, I felted embarrassed, upset, and annoyed. All they told me was that they couldn't date until they were 16 yet it was kind of obvious they didn't like me because the way I looked, and the way I ask them out.

Asian culture tends to be more honorable Americans are more about freedom and with that will inevitably come sin and just plain foolishness sadly, they are very disciplined though it's truly admirable. I want to go to some places in Asia someday but life's not that simple cx
Four men in my family have married from the Philippines and China and they couldn't be happier. All women are educated professionals and are total class. They just weren't able to establish this within their own culture and they're not alone in this approach. You'll find someone beautiful like this to share your life with, leave it in God's Hands!

Yes, exactly.

I was trying to hint at this in my post, but I'm glad you stated what should be obvious.

Unwanted children (which includes children born out of wedlock--there are no such things as single mothers in Korea--or to mixed parents) are only good for profit, with some of the most prominent examples being adoption... and of course, prostitution or trafficking. I have no illusions about what could have happened to me had God not sent me here to the States.

If any of you young people out there who adore Asian culture are from a single-parent household or unmarried parents, be glad if you were not born into traditional Asian culture, because you would be scorned and ostracized for the rest of your life.

Asian culture does seem to be having a moment right now... I just wish that people would see it like any culture.

It has some wonderful and fascinating things about it.

But, like any other culture, it also has some unspeakable horrors and socially acceptable crimes that need to be stopped, and not glossed over by dolls and cutesy cartoons.
You realize that there are "horror films" that "address" such things right?
If not for cartoons I wouldn't have had much of a child hood, and yes many were horrendous, creepy, strange,or had no discernable plot in the cartoons, but this also made them...hilarious,eye catching, unpredictable, and educational, take for instance "Dexter's laboratory" one of the funniest yet downright creepy and bizarre shows, yet I still remember some of what I "learned from it" such as that a potato gives off an electrical current that can be used like a battery for lamps or things that use electrical outlet power cords, and that you can possibly learn a language or at least a phrase subconsciously if you go to sleep while listening to a recording while sleeping,if anyone "looks closely" at a cartoon/anime you can actually "learn educational or perhaps even cultural lessons" that kids or even adults(yes adults still watch both anime and cartoons) probably would otherwise not "bother to learn" at the same time as "having a laugh" "following a story of a favorite character or characters" or just watching because nothing else is on tv.
Anime and Cartoons and even "shows in general" have "morals" "lessons" or even just a cheerful atmosphere, nothing is exactly "covered up" by a few "cutesy animes/cartoons" the information concerning cultural issues or can be "right in front of you" ,you just have to "look for it".

Yeah, there's always someone that doesn't like what someone likes, anime just like a tv if not more so is a mystery what you'll "see" or "hear" even "kid or toddler shows" are a mystery, some animes I'd rather forget, some I liked their story so much that I watched all the episodes, just like "anything"(yes including in the bible) there are gonna be things "some people like" or not like Aaron's kids offering strange fire to God and being consumed by fire, some people would rather that not have happened but it did, where as in fictional stories it's possible to "see an ending you prefer or a story you prefer" it just "reflects human nature" we naturally would "rather retry for a better outcome than accept things such as defeat" everything entertainment wise whether true stories or not in any form are considered "entertainment" and so "mentally" we search for "truth" or a truth" or simply "a way to cope with reality" which includes temporarily "exiting reality mentally".
It's our choice typically what we decide to "watch or listen to" but that's our human ways to cope when we are down or bored, anime, games, and shows have helped me "cope" with my totally messed up and ever dreadful life, but now that I'm wholly with God I try not to "focus" on entertainment stuff so heavily but when you "grow up" with a form of entertainment(like video games been playing them since I was around five my first games were technically above my mental capacity or so my cousins thought but ever since my first game my mind has become an infinite never ending gallery full of cheat codes, character names, awesome moves, creatures and so on,and that was only partially of what I realized I "could remember" overtime) it's "more difficult" to not wanna get back into that entertainment and focus on God or life in general, animes run through my head cheering me up or cracking me up(for example super vegito as the incredible fighting candy never gets old, most hilarious scene in dragon ball Z ever in my opinion and I even have the vcr tape!)so yeah anime like anything gets criticized but personally I like watching anime because it's "Interesting" instead of run of the mill and boring as moldy cheese, but everyone has there own views so good to respect those though we disagree.

Well Loony toons has it's weird moments too,but because people laugh so hard noone cares about the creepy stuff in it,like bugs bunny kissing on the lips both male and female characters, which I still find rather unfunny more of creepy than silly funny.

Looney Tunes is subversive, that is what makes it cool. Bugs Bunny is the most subversive character in pop culture.

I'm no expert on anime but I'm not a stranger to it, either.

I've never been into all the cutesy stuff at all (just not my taste), but back in the day, I used to watch things like "Fist of the North Star", "Akira", "Mermaid Forest", and "Battle Angel" (which I see is going to be made into a live-action movie next year, and you can bet I'll be checking it out at some time.) I also saw the original "Ghost in the Shell" when it came out.

My favorites were always the ones that had very poignant social commentaries.

If you think I'm ripping on anime, you've missed my entire point, as that wasn't the purpose of my posts at all.

I have nothing against anime or Asian culture in its entirety. Rather, the gist of my entire post was a suggestion to just try to have a balanced view of it, and not put it up on a pedastal.

It's just like me living in the United States. I love the USA, but am hopefully aware enough to know that it also has plenty of flaws to be worked on.

Y'all can see which cartoon I advocate watching.

The original Transformers, a la the 1980's, starring the one and only Soundwave himself!

Sorry for the triple post.

P.S. Joe,

When I was in my 20's, I saw a version of "Battle Angel Alita" that shook me to the core, as I believe God taught me an astounding truth about Himself through that movie (it would take way too long to type, or I would write it out here.)

I'm sure many people would judge me for having watched it, as I remember it was quite violent, but so was The Passion of the Christ, and I'll never regret watching either of those films.

From what I've seen on the internet, there are many different versions of the Battle Angel story and I haven't been able to find the exact one I watched yet, as I would kind of like to see it again in order to see how if it still affects me now that some time has passed. From what I can tell, the live-action movie they are making is probably not going to be the same story I originally saw.

So no, I'm not knocking your preferences in anime at all--just trying to be a voice for discernment and a wider (hopefully realistic) view of cultural awareness.
