there is nothing that enters a man that defiles him...

if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.

if a man lusts after a woman, he has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Where your treasure is there your heart will be also.

I was ready to come in here to enlighten the OP, but I see that others are doing such a wonderful job. Carry on!

I think men ought to cover up better...showing off their sexy forearms all the time... Totally indecent.

I don't go to the gym for the sole reason that I don't want to tempt women. :p

I am appalled at what I see some "Christian" ladies wearing to church. I can understand totally where the guys are coming from when they remind the women to dress modestly. Had a very interesting conversation with an Asian brother who commented that if people tried to go into the temples here (even as tourists) wearing what they wear to the international church people would refuse them admittance or throw a sarong at them and tell them to cover up. Then he commented that we (especially westerners) have lost our reverence for God.

Why do we all get so worked up when a guy comments or tries to explain why modesty is important? None of them have implied that female bodies are evil or that men are hopeless animals when it comes to being tempted so it is all the woman's responsibility to make sure that men are not being tempted. What they are trying to say is similar to a person on a diet not wanting you to eat lots of chocolate cake and junk food in front of them. It is not an unreasonable request, especially if no specifics or rules are given. And frankly I think a lot of women (especially non-Christians) who push the boundaries of acceptable are looking for attention from guys, so there is some validity to the idea that women who dress immodestly are trying to incite men to lust. They want that kind of attention to boost their egos.

So can we try to think the best of each other on here? Can we assume that our Christian brothers are not looking for excuses to lust and are trying to help us understand how we can help them be more godly? Can we assume that our Christian sisters are trying to dress modestly according to their understanding of modesty? Is it really that hard to love each other instead of trying to find some way to prove the other person wrong? And yes, my respect would only increase for a guy (or a lady for that matter) who had the guts to tell me that they were concerned what I was wearing was distracting or inappropriate. I value modesty and I would appreciate the feedback.

So ladies (and gentlemen), do you want to be the object of another person's lust? Do you want to make your brother's or sister's christian walk more difficult? When did this become about rights instead of deferring to one another in love?

And gentlemen (and ladies), please when we have these kinds of threads let's give extra appreciation and applause to those who are living counter-culturally and doing right. If you appreciate the people who dress modestly say so, if you appreciate those who are trying to keep their thought lives pure in a world that promotes impurity say so.

You don't get to blame girls for your lack of control, and I don't get to blame guys for my lack of control. If you can't control your eyes and your lust, take it up with Jesus, not with the objects of your obsession.
That is a cop out as well. Nether men nor women should be dressing in ways to cause someone to stumble into lust.

oh why do I even bother, this is Murica where everyone has sold out morals anyway.

carry on do whatever.

"More skin", "Modesty", "Less curves" .. these are all ambiguous terms. Really. What does "more skin" mean to somebody from UAE, India, USA and a nude beach? Let me elaborate. Someone from the UAE would think a woman without her burqa is immodest and must be stoned. To some cultures in India, a woman wearing a sleeveless shirt is immodest and is ill-cultured. To a person from the USA, it is a bikini suit. To a nudist, well, wearing something might be immodest.

I think it is time we stop advising the opposite gender dress modestly, show less skin and curves. We do not have a universally applicable set of codes for dressing. And please do not use the Bible as a shield for your argument. There are various passages in the Bible (both, OT & NT) that exhort women to lay off ornaments, not plait their hair, not worship with uncovered heads, etc. And the percentage of women who follow this is only a few. The same goes for men as well.

So, my suggestion is that if you have a problem with someone's dressing, then the problem is with you. If you look through a yellow lens then the whole world will appear yellow to you. Blaming women for your sin is like blaming the world for appearing yellow to you. Trying to advise the opposite gender to dress modestly/show less curves/etc. is only trying to shift the responsibility for your behaviour on them. This is the basis for arguments that many men use to justify incidents of rape - that women who dress immodestly are only asking for it. I am sorry but if you have a problem with a person's dressing, then you are solely responsible for it.

We have progressed a lot as a civilization. Let us not reverse this progress.

Heh, in some places in India even men are 'forbidden' to walk outside in shorts. Apparently, it is not modest for a man to walk outside wearing anything shorter than his knee as women could be turned on by it! So what really is the universally applicable meaning for the word "modest"?

After December 2013, when I got UPSET with some sores (because bugs bit me in the leg) I'm learning to go to the toilet using long pants and all the clothing I can. Even bugs are teaching me to be "well" dressed my own home. ;)

Nope, not a cop out and here's why.

I never said that I didn't agree with his stance of "Hey, cover up and stuff". I'm all for modesty. What I took issue with was his stance of the physiology that men just can't seem to control.

I NEVER took issue with the morality, just the science.

Don't attack my morality when it wasn't ever up for debate.

What is wrong with looking at an attractively dressed woman? If you see one could you please send her my way?
