I loved Hollywood, or rather, the movie-making industry in the 80's. They were coming out with so many awesome movies. I thought movies were the bomb. Now there's about as much creativity and talent in hollywood as there is filet mignon at a vegan festival... :p

I like to steam vegans with tofu.

Honestly, I think better stories are coming out of TV and even videogames.

A lot of great TV out there.

Some of the stories had me thinking of our political situation and modern culture.

Seabiscuit.

"he runs with his heart, not his legs"

"when you come around that last turn, pull him back a little and let him get a good look at that other horse. Once he sees him,he grabs another gear. Be sure you hang on. No horse can beat him"

The legend of the blue sea. Not a movie but a korean drama about a mermaid and a human. Sort of romeo and juliet kind of story with a funny side.

End of the Spear (2005), based on the real life events of the interactions of the American Missionaries with the Waodani Indians at Ecuador.

It is tragic, heartbreaking and at the same time powerful and beautiful. It is amazing how the cycle of violence that closely bound these tribes was broken by the grace of God and the supreme love and sacrifice of these Christians.

I had the privilege to view it with 3 other missionaries who have been closely involved with the spread of the gospel internationally.

I will also be picking up someone at church today, a 90 + year old woman who knew these 5 American missionaries very well and was also part of the missions at Ecuador.

Hacksaw Ridge stands above most movies.
The sugar of Marvel/DC movies is sweet.
But the heart of Hacksaw is enriching, it will challenge you in your faith.
Look beyond the politics, some of the cheesy acting, and you will see an action-packed peace-of-war film.
Even if you know the results, the true account, the movie's closing scenes will remind you of something very important.

See it once, it will replay itself.

Trigger warning for some gore and language.

Brando used woman for his pleasure and also due to his issues with his mom. He had a reputation for that. Being as good looking as he was, as charming as he was, and as intelligent as he was, he should have been more responsible with the way he made some woman feel used and foolish.
It's kind of interesting, about those good-looking Hollywood stars.

Some of the most beautiful... Don't stay so beautiful. Check out Brando in The Island of Dr. Moreau (and you thought only Dr. Evil had a Mini-Me...):

Funny thing about Hollywood... Once someone loses their looks (because that's all that's valued in their world), what else do they have left? (Yeah, I know there's money and all that, but that, too, passes, of course.)

In an atmosphere where looks are all that matters, the twisted thing is that it's better to die young and be remembered as good-looking (Marilyn Monroe, James Dean) than to grow old and lose your looks and image (Marlon Brando, as illustrated here, Elizabeth Taylor, Peter O'Toole, etc.)

Though we Christians are as susceptible as anyone else to the trappings of our (very mortal) outer shell, it IS comforting to know that one day, who we are, rather than what we look like, is all that's really going to matter.

"Something wicked this way comes"

...about a carnival from hell visits a town. The devil pulls the weak strings in certain people living in the small town.

Most are oblivious to what is going on.

In the end, love breaks the demonic intruders.

Has a lesson in the story concerning our heart.

( lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh, and the pride of life)

The destruction and horror of sin.

One if my all time favorites is "Father goose"

A self centered alcoholic is marooned on an island with a bunch of little girls and their female teacher during ww2.

His forced sacrifices are hilariously well played, and the tropical setting and vidiography is stunning.

It is a keeper

Brand's facial bone structure was so good, that even when he lost his looks, I still though he retained some remnant of attractiveness.
This gives me a idea for a new thread that I am going to start right now, because I am curious as to what people think. Shooting star or the steadiness of the sun?

It's a really good story by Ray Bradbury, if you haven't read it.
