As everyone else said, it's the lyrics and the intention of the music that matters. :)

I was listening to christian music only for a few months, not purposely it just turned out that way, and it always gave me a deep sense of peace. When I switched back over to worldly music, wow, what a difference. You are so much more aware of the intention and lyrics of songs and you just can't find the same kind of satisfaction.

Music genres aren't the issue. It's the lyrics and the worldviews presented that are the problem (or conversely the blessing).
It is when its unchristian, then definitely it is not good..
What's unchristan is meditating on things which defile one from keeping doctrines of Christ..
Clearly there must be a struggle to keep such a standard in one's life,if it that is person can easily fall for worldly distractions once in public..
no filth promoter that didn't turn to Christ, and tasted death would dare to think of their wasted life on earth being in hell..but if they had a chance Apostle Paul's Holy life would be compared 'nothing' to theirs...

It's the lyrics (words) that count for a lot, one way or another.

I don't think the style is as important.

One more thing; watch out for the youth movements. They are not Scriptural.

These modern day movements that are centered on the youth use the methods of the world (rock music/hip hop) to bring the youth in.

Rock n' roll and Hip Hop music cannot bring true glory to God.

Something that is of the world cannot be Christianized.
yea, there is a need to discern...

The true Christian does not listen to "gospel". Only pseudomorphic christains write, perform and listen to gospel.

That's not true. It's unwise to listen to music that promotes sinful behavior (usually fornication) because if you are listening to pop stars sing about sex and partying all day it's really not a big surprise if after a while you start to find yourself wanting to engage in those activities. We generally live out what we take in.

You might hear a Christian teenage girl singing, Katy Perry's Teenage Dream,
"Let's go all the way tonight
No regrets, just love
We can dance, until we die
You and I, will be young forever"
everyday, because it's "stuck in her head" because she listens to it a lot, and after repeating these lines everyday for weeks she finds herself faced with the moral dilemma of having sex with her boyfriend, and of course she hears in her head, "Let's go all the way tonight, no regrets, just love, you and I will be young forever". And then she does it, and she regrets it, and she says "I couldn't help it. It just felt so right at the time. I couldn't stop myself." We generally live out what we take in.
Oh, so that explains why I always find myself traveling the seas in a Yellow Submarine!

Listening to music about sex isn't going to encourage you to have sex unless you're already open to that idea. So many songs I listen to mention alcohol and drugs, neither of which I do.

Thank you percepi, i listen to many songs about sex drugs and acohol at which i do none of it. So is it the percpective ofthe person or do some people just let the music control them enough for them ro do foolish things?

If a person is already inclined to drink alcohol, party, etc., then the music they listen to may help reinforce their actions. But if you know precisely what you will and will not do, you'll be okay. If you know you don't want to start drinking or doing drugs, the music isn't going to change your mind.

All you need is a little self control. : )

I always thought that rock`n`roll and hiphop well anything that worships God and can bring glory to his name would glorify Him. It is the same as christian music just with a diffrent tone of music and diffrent speed. But that is just my opinion.

Don't let people fool you. The CCM they listen to is more worldly in my opinion than much of the rock/hip-hop. Sound has nothing to do with it. I's the message and lyrics of the song that give it life. Much of the CCM is full of ambiguous lyrics that may or may not have anything to do with God. Much of it is made as a way to make money and nothing else. Same goes for the rock and hip hop. Examine everything to make sure it stands in the light of scripture.

Listen to whatever you want. I am changing the channel right now to some good old fashion rock n roll. This music soothes my soul. All the hits, all of time.
