This brings out the essence of what I was saying. True faith to you is DEEPER faith.
Faith that saves is a
DEEPER faith that trusts exclusively in Christ for salvation and is not simply "mental assent" belief in the existence and historical facts about Christ. The demons believe that "there is one God" (James 2:19) but they
do not believe/entrust their spiritual well being to Christ; have faith/reliance upon Christ for salvation (Acts 16:31). Their trust and reliance is in Satan, as demonstrated by their rebellion in Heaven and continuous evil works.
So for you it's not what you believe, but how you believe that determines the quality of faith.
What and how you believe matters. It's also not about simply believing in your head but believing in your heart. Many people believe in their "head" that the death, burial and resurrection of Christ "happened" but many people don't believe in their
heart/trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of their salvation. Instead, they trust in works for salvation.
And this you describe as trusting in Christ alone for salvation, which translates into trusting in grace alone for salvation in which there are no requirements for obedience to GOD's voice (law, will).
The gospel is the "good news" of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and is the
power of God unto salvation to everyone that
BELIEVES.. (Romans 1:16). The gospel is not a set of rituals to perform, a code of laws to be obeyed or a check list of good works to accomplish as a prerequisite for salvation. Grace is not a license to sin, but a license to obey God. Only genuine believers obey God's voice. Without faith it's impossible to please God.
So instead of grace being the means whereby we become obedient to GOD's voice (word, will, law), grace itself becomes the law in which no obedience is required, except for believing that no obedience is required
*Grace is the unmerited favor of God. It is where God shows us mercy, kindness, and patience instead of the judgment that we deserve for sinning against Him. God's grace cannot be earned by our actions or sincerity. Grace is based on the character of God and not on our sincerity, performance, or ability to keep the law. Otherwise, grace would not be grace.
Rom. 11:6, "But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace."
Gal. 2:21, "I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly."
2 Timothy 1:9, "who has saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity."
*We have been saved by grace (unmerited favor) through faith and not by works, yet grace is also the free and benevolent influence of a holy God (God's empowerment) operating sovereignly in the lives of believers.
1 Corinthians 15:10 - But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.
2 Corinthians 1:12 - For our proud confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and godly sincerity, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you.
2 Corinthians 12:9 - And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
