What is conscious eternal unquenchable eternal fire if it isn't torture.... and how can any compassionate person so indifferently perpetuate it.
I believe in the scriptures and what it says and this is what the biggest problem you have. You convoluted idea is not the teaching of Christ. I would not rather expalin to you about the words "torture vs punishment". You're English speaking guy, you should have known that first...

And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name."
(Rev 14:11)

Fallen human reasoning vs God's Word, which will you choose?
So basically an unbeliever gets a picture painted of a sadistic God who willingly keeps people conscious to torture them for eternity. Ok...got it.

The doctrine of hell is a roman catholic doctrine latched onto by the modern church. You preach a gospel of hell. Sheol, hades are actually referring to the grave. You're good at copy and pasting your false gospel.
Hi Sirk,

As I said earlier, I did another complete study on Sheol/Hades and it has bars, gates, has levels, and a number of other characteristics. Now Sheol/Hades is a temporary place of punishment until the great white throne judgment, so what you think about the final place of punishment, the lake of fire, gehenna, the second death?

"A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand,they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.”

Well, to a degree.. yes.. However, it is certainly established that coming at them with that right out of the gate will not cause them to instantly repent.. It will only anger them more towards God. That's why its best to start with why you follow Christ.

We follow Christ because what He has and still does for us. Then you can get into the sinful nature part and what the wages for sin is.

Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Ya gonna base your theology on what others might think or on God's Word?
Sure, fallen man essentially hates and fears God, God has performed a mighty Rescue through the death of His Son and they still mock His Good News. So go ahead and form your opinions according to man's reason rather than God's Word.

If you will notice in the event of the rich man and Lazarus, the rich man never asked why he was there. He knew why and that he deserved it. The only thing that he did ask was that Abraham send Lazarus back to his father's house so that his five brothers didn't go to that place of torment.

[h=3]God’s judgment will be less for some[/h] Matthew 11:20-24 Then he began to denounce the cities where most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I tell you that it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you.”

Ya man....I was raised in church and I've read all these hundreds of times. Can you please answer the questions I have asked.

A just, merciful loving God willingly keeps people conscious for eternity to torture them?

I'm not...I'm forming my argument as to what I know God's character to be.

[h=2]Torment will be physical
[/h] Luke 16:24 And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ Jude 12-13 These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever. Revelation 14:11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.”
Revelation 19:20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. Revelation 20:10 And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them, and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

I actually find myself agreeing with Suzanna on this one. Hell is very real ! oh how I wish it wasn't so as I have unsaved family. The JW's teach that the Bible is simply referring to the grave - I don't believe this is so. God is a just and holy God but it isn't He who sends the unsaved into Hell, there is only a choice of two, the unsaved have died in their sins and so they can't reside in Heaven with a perfect God - it is one's own decision not God's. It's simple really, you reside with a loving, just and holy God or with the "god" of evil. God has given us free will and we are free to choose.

What is your kick with condemning everyone to hell? You scream "Preach the gospel!!" but it seems the only part of the gospel you acknowledge is condemnation. Seriously, how do you rationalize your approach in your head? I cant grasp it.

[h=2]Torment will be mental
[/h] Luke 16:25 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’ [h=2]Torment will be spiritual[/h] 2 Thessalonians 1:5-9 This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might,

Do you not believe the scripture that I provided. It says they will have no rest day or night and the smoke of their torment will rise up forever and ever. People will either believe what scripture clearly states or they will circumvent it, distort it or apply a symbolic or spiritual meaning to it in order to take away the literal meaning. There is way too much scripture that supports the literal meaning to apply the others.

Look at an interview with good folks at the Westboro Baptist Church. You'll get a better idea about the mentality. "hate is love" my friend...

It seems? Well, it seems you dont fully understand me then. I dont water down the Bible.
I put forth the truth in the Bible. The only ones condemned are the ones who deny Christ.

You really shouldnt bear false witness against me

I'm asking you the question. Can I get a yes or no? Does a just loving merciful God keep someone conscious to torture them for eternity? Please and thank you. :)

[h=3]God will have greater judgment for some[/h] Luke 11:32 The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. [h=3]God’s judgment will be double for others[/h] Revelation 18:5-6 for her sins are heaped high as heaven,and God has remembered her iniquities.[SUP]6 [/SUP] Pay her back as she herself has paid back others,and repay her double for her deeds;mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed.
