Jesus was filled with the HOLY Spirit, which means more than just being cleansed of sins.

And yes, the Holy Spirit tells us we are children of God. Will find the Bible verse.

Roman 8v15
to be filled with he HS and to be baptized in him are two different things.

Maybe it is a term issue we are dealing with?

Jesus had John the Baptist baptize Him in order to fulfill all righteousness.
*
At first glance, it seems that Jesus’ baptism has no purpose at all. John’s baptism was the baptism of repentance (Matthew 3:11), but Jesus was sinless and had no need of repentance. Even John was taken aback at Jesus’ coming to him. John recognized his own sin and was aware that he, a sinful man in need of repentance himself, was unfit to baptize the spotless Lamb of God: “I need to be baptized by You and You are coming to me?” (Matthew 3:14). Jesus replied that it should be done because “it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness” (Matthew 3:15). See more here: https://www.gotquestions.org/Jesus-baptized.html

It happened because God told him he would know who the Messiah was because he would see the Holy Spirit land on Him like a dove. It was so John would be sure, I think. :)

Not only John but the world. John would be an eyewitness testimony, and all who were with him..

I thought Jesus was baptized by John to set as a precedent for us to also be baptized.

I think...I agree. Though I can't think of any verses to support this...but my experience is the more I decrease, the more He increases in me...the more of my self life He helps me to die to or put off, the more light He is able to give me and the more of the spirit of the words I understand...

He testified that God told Him: when you see the Holy Spirit land like a dove on one you baptize, this is how you will know it is Him. :)
So John testified that this happened, he saw it, and this was the One sent from God.

John already knew Jesus was not in need of baptism, being spotless :)

I hear ya, I like to look at terms, then see how they are used, or what defines them

Baptize. To immerse or place into. To place into a solution to change state (think tie die t-shirt) In the greek, a baptizer was a person who dyed clothing) The children of Israel were baptized into (placed into union) with moses

Filled - to My cup is filled to overflowing. Jesus said, if you would have asked, I would have given you living water which overflows to eternal life (speaking of the HS) (john 4)

If we use terms used or symbolized by the law.

Baptism was represented by the priest getting washed in water. (the Jordan river moses was told to take arron and his sons and wash them)

Filling of the spirit would be symbolized by pouring the oil over the head of the priest.

John immersed jesus in water, God anointed him by pouring the spirit into him (like a dove)

Yes! This is something I've puzzled over! One account says that.
And another account says he didn't know who He was until he saw what God said he would see.
Puzzling...

I have thought that Johns baptism in water was to show that these people had repented and turned to God (plowed up the hard ground of their hearts).

You know, there was a preacher from a long time ago (forget who) who was kicked out by his congregation for wanting to be sure they knew, before he baptized them, what they should know. He took it seriously and wanted to talk with them before he performed a water baptism. But John did the same thing! He wouldn't baptize men who he couldn't see had repented.

He does say that, but in another account, he says he didn't know until he saw the Holy Spirit land. I'm going to read them both again to refresh. be back. :)

I think Jesus spoke of the cross.. That was his baptism. And we too will have to be baptized in that same baptism (rom 6)

Yes, there is one baptism of the spirit That saves washes us, Saves us, Justifies us, Regenerates us etc etc.

But then comes the sanctification process, which is ongoing.

There will also be one baptism of fire.. Anyone who is not baptised in the HS will suffer that baptism.

To me, Jesus will baptize everyone.

Take your choice, reject the baptism of the spirit, and you wil be baptized in fire. But you wil be baptized by Jesus, whether you want to or not..
I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Matt 3:11

John the baptist baptizes with water, Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit and fire.

This is not baptism of Holy Spirit or fire, the fire of the lake of fire, but the fire of
God, His power and authority, His flame of holiness, His purity and His nature.

Fire is about purification, burning up the dross, refining, making new and whole.
If the object is just chaff nothing remains, it is gone. Chaff is the leaves, the husk,
the shell that holds the seed. Our mortal bodies are the frame for the mortal soul
that God will make immortal.

if you do not understand , what jesus has already done for you.

for example.
a jewish people is not a gentile people.

if two heads become one head, then how can a jewish law save all.

Okay, I found it. John 1:31 - John says he did not recognize Him, which sounds different from the one account where he doesn't want to baptize Jesus.

As for when he said: the lamb of God, that was the day after His baptism.
