Joh_14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Joh_15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

1Jn_5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
1Jn_5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Can you notice anything in all these verses? The connection between loving God and keeping His commandments.

Joh_14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Rom 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Rom 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Had you called it "the first day of the week" (or "the morrow after the sabbath") all the Sabbatarians would have had to retire. That was also the day of the resurrection of Christ -- "the firstfruits of them that slept". As I have said some time back, the Lord's Day is the Christian sabbath. Just because the RCC and EOC churches also hold to this view does not make it false. And just because the world calls it "Sunday" does not mean that for Christians it is not the Lord's Day. They worship the Son, not the sun.
Heh, yes, I thought of that after the fact... not all the rest of it,
just the matter of calling it "the first day of the week." :)

what exactly do you do or don't do on the Sabbath that you should or shouldn't do every day?
It is good to do anything that is needed or important (study and talk to God about the standards or boundary's) on the sabbath. It is a day of rest which is to spend time knowing and appreciating the Lord for what he has done in creation and for our salvation we should set aside all common labour and work that we can.

Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Walk on the beach and praise God for the wonderful creation around you and contemplate the gospel and love of God for us. To do this while you are working is hard. The rest you find in Jesus is what we should be seeking each Sabbath.

Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Just like the gospel is a gift that you can only enjoy after you've accepted it, the sabbath is a gift that you can only enjoy once you accept it.

Mat_12:12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

Luk_6:9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?

Jesus straightened out the pharisees with His responses, and we need to remember these principles as well.

i do think its important that people take a rest day once a week. God wants us to do this and many people don't. however i have found many people are very legalistic in what they deem is appropriate and not to do on the Sabbath day.

i have a Jewish friend who says her grandparents would have everyone stay home in the pj all day and not leave the house.

truthfully i believe its important no matter what day of the week it is people find time to rest and worship God. time to give thanks and cease from working but praising God for what He has already given us. Sabbath should be found in Christ, just as He is our Manna, or daily bread from Heaven.

It is important to worship God all the time as i have said.
But Please give me Bible verses that show the sanctity of the Sabbath was changed. By saying that Pentecost happened on a Sunday and that Jesus was raised on a Sunday does not prove that the Sabbath was changed to Sunday or the first day of the week. There is no verse to say the Sabbath was changed or ended, and Non that states that Sunday is Sanctified and Holy.

Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Heb 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

I've given verses.

the Lord's day is not the same as the Sabbath. it refers to WHEN Jesus rose from the Tomb, which was the FIRST day of the week: Sunday.

the gathering of people on Sunday is based off this verse in memory of Jesus Resurrection, NOT in keeping a NEW Sabbath day:

Acts 20:7: "Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.

Actually Ariel the resurrection wasn't on a Sunday: You argue the resurrection was on a Sunday, but it was actually on a Saturday evening. Christ was buried just before sundown: and 3 days/3 nights add up to a sundown resurrection. Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday. The Romans said it was Friday because of the sundown Sabbath was approaching. But it says in John 19:14 it was the preparation day (crucifixion day) which is the day before the annual Sabbath of the First Day of Unleavened Bread. Ask any Jew what the preparation day is. Three days and three nights raises Him on Saturday evening. He had already risen by early Sunday. John 20:1: "The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre."

Jesus was talking with Mary saying he had not ascended to His Father yet: John 20:16-18: “Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

John 20:19: Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

Later that same day He appeared to His disciples and they could touch Him. So we can say for sure the ascension was on Sunday. We are given a picture of His ascension as the wave sheath day, when the first fruits were waved before God as a tribute. This was always done on the first Sunday after Passover. [look up wave sheath day for yourself] This still does not make Sunday the Sabbath.

Now about Acts 20:7 and Pentecost (Feast of Weeks) they have nothing to do with the Sabbath. The Sabbath happens to be a sign of our being God's people. Ezekiel 20:12: "Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them." The word sign could mean mark.

Sign Strong's H226
אוֹת
'ôth
oth
Probably from H225 (in the sense of appearing); a signal (literally or figuratively), as a flag, beacon, monument, omen, prodigy, evidence, etc.: - mark, miracle, (en-) sign, token.

With all the evidence given in post 1,2,4,5 and with not bible evidence to say we should throw the Sabbath out, how do you continue to ignore the plain truth.
2Th 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
2Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Truth is important. ignorance will only cover what we truly didn't know.

Christians were calling it 'the eighth day' long before the RCC even existed.

The RCC is IMO not worthy of my attention on any subject. I am totally unconcerned with anything they claim or disclaim.

Acts 20:7
7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
KJV

1 Cor 16:1-2
16 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.
2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
KJV

These two passages of Scripture and historical accounts by Eusebius c300 A.D. and Philo, a secular historian, c 30-60A.D. are sufficient to persuade me that for at least the first 3 centuries the Church generally observed both the Sabbath and the First day of the week; and that neither observance was considered mandatory.

Ridiculous. The first day of the week is in the Bible. Any other things in the Bible they’d like to claim?

Catholic Priest T. Enright, CSSR, lecture at Hartford, KS, Feb 18, 1884:
"I have repeatedly offered $1000 to any one who can furnish any proof from the Bible that Sunday is the day we are bound to keep...The Bible says, “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy,” but the Catholic Church says, “No, keep the first day of the week,” and the whole world bows in obedience."

Catholic Record (September 1, 1923):
"The [catholic] Church is above the Bible, and this transference of the Sabbath observance is proof of that fact."

The catholic church has a good history of itself.

Exactly, the popes call themselves in place of Christ: he is to be honored as Christ Himself when it comes to doctrine. He backed this up in 1870: Pope Pius had decided to assert his spiritual strength, so he convoked the Vatican Council in 1869. The next year he declared Papal Infallibility as a formal article of Catholic faith. This infallibility policy outraged many of the other Christians.

I know the debate about Saturday and Sunday has been covered before but i'd like you to see what the Catholic Church says.
Read all of these statements and think seriously about what is truth.

1. The Catholic Church claims responsibility for the change from seventh-day to first-day Sabbath. Here is an explanation from
The Catechism of the Catholic Church Section 2 Article 3 (1994): (<Source provided)

"Sunday – fulfillment of the Sabbath. Sunday is expressly distinguished from the Sabbath which it follows chronologically every week; for Christians its ceremonial observance replaces that of the Sabbath...

The Sabbath, which represented the completion of the first creation, has been replaced by Sunday which recalls the new creation, has been replaced by Sunday which recalls the new creation inaugurated by the Resurrection of Christ...

In respecting religious liberty and the common good of all, Christians should seek recognition of Sundays and the Church’s holy days as legal holidays."

Keep reading there are more quotes to come.
The Catholic Church still follows The Age of LAW. SO SAD!

Actually Ariel the resurrection wasn't on a Sunday: You argue the resurrection was on a Sunday, but it was actually on a Saturday evening. Christ was buried just before sundown: and 3 days/3 nights add up to a sundown resurrection.
What you seem to be forgetting is that in Hebrew reckoning sundown would be BOTH the end of Saturday and the beginning of Sunday (the first day of the week). So the first day of the week ran from sundown Saturday to sundown Sunday. Since the Bible does not give us the precise time of the resurrection, but calls Christ "the firstfruits of them that slept" (the Feast of Firstfruits being on the first day of the week), His resurrection was anytime between say 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and 4:00 a.m. on Sunday. The women went to the tomb very early in the morning -- on the first day of the week -- and found the empty tomb.

Sabbatarians have the Christian liberty to observe the Saturday sabbath if they so choose, but they do not have the liberty to ignore or deride the Lord's Day -- the first day of the week.

It appears that your 1884 reference had not studied and read scripture... the scriptures that Marc referenced. And all the historical evidence that showed the first century church meeting on the first day of the week.

Do whatever your conscience directs you to do about the Sabbath (Saturday). The church of Jesus Christ meets on the first day of the week, historically and traditionally.... it's when we gather to "break bread".

Also, I assume you keep ALL of the Sabbath days that the Jews kept? There are more than one per week, you know....

Ridiculous. The first day of the week is in the Bible.

The phrase [first day of the week] is recorded 8 times in the new testement,
and not one says to worship on sunday instead of the Sabbath.

We can go look them-up, everyone was a work day, after the Sabbath was pasted.

The phrase "break bread" is eating a meal with thanks.
no where in the bible is breaking bread just a gathering for a religious meeting.
