The act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things.

that's one definition.
but it's not the accurate one.

this is:

"Naturally, Jesus did sometimes pretend to respect the Law, but whenever he thought he could get away with it, he turned right around and broke that same Law. In Matthew 5:17-19, he declared that he came to fulfill the Law, and in Matthew 23:1-3 he defended the authority of the rabbis. But the rest of the time, he rebelled against the Law—thus showing that his occasional words of piety were meant only to hide his evil agenda. The following sins of Jesus are recorded in the "New Testament":

Jesus repudiated the laws of kosher food (Mark 7:18-19). [Compare this to the prophet Daniel's strict adherence to kashrus, in Daniel chapter 1.]

He repudiated the laws of honoring one's parents, and called on his followers to hate their parents; he also dishonored his own mother (Matthew 10:34-36; Matthew 12:46-50; Luke 14:26).

He violated the Sabbath by picking grain, and incited his disciples to do the same (Matthew 12:1-8; Mark 2:23-26).

4) He again violated the Sabbath by healing a man's arm, which was not a matter of saving a life, and he openly defied the rabbis in his total repudiation of the Sabbath (Matthew 12:9-13; Mark 3:1-5). [Compare this to G-d's view of violating the Sabbath, in Numbers 15:32-36, Nehemiah 10:30-32, and dozens of other places throughout the Bible.]

Jesus brazenly defied and disobeyed the rabbis of the Sanhedrin, repudiating their authority (This is recorded in many places throughout the New Testament, but look especially at Matthew 23:13-39 and John 8:44-45).

The Talmud (Babylonian edition) records other sins of "Jesus the Nazarene":

He and his disciples practiced sorcery and black magic, led Jews astray into idolatry, and were sponsored by foreign, gentile powers for the purpose of subverting Jewish worship (Sanhedrin 43a).

He was sexually immoral, worshipped statues of stone (a brick is mentioned), was cut off from the Jewish people for his wickedness, and refused to repent (Sanhedrin 107b; Sotah 47a).

He learned witchcraft in Egypt and, to perform miracles, used procedures that involved cutting his flesh—which is also explicitly banned in the Bible (Shabbos 104b)."

An example of basphemy not a definition of basphemy right?

But you have not committed the unforgivable sin, no one has. and it is not possible for anyone today to commit that .
Today its not possible?
Y not?
Do you believe itcould only be done while Jesus walked this earth in human flesh?

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the only unpardonable sin.
Because The Holy Spirit is the Person of the Trinity who God works through upon the souls of men/women.
So, a blasphemer of the Holy Spirit is one who continually resists His leadings....
and eventually calls Him(and such leadings) an unholy thing.
See how such an one cannot be saved?

Satan has this trick of trying to convince people they are always committing sins. He gets them so worried, that they don't have time to listen to what God is actually saying. He did that to me for many years when I was a kid. I finally figured it out: If you love God enough to worry about it all the time, then you probably love God enough not to have committed any serious sins on purpose in the first place. So, as soon as you can figure out it's not God talking to you, you can stop listening. It takes a while to undo the old habits, but the reward at the end is real freedom to hear God.

Panic cycles certainly sound like what I had back then. That's not your conscience. God doesn't panic people; He loves them, even (and especially) when they sin..
Only i would say especially when they are convicted and repent of their sins, not when they sin but when they confess and turn back to God for forgiveness.

Stop the panic and fear cycles for the spirit given to us is not of fear but love hope power peace and a sOund mind.

Ok, gonna throw some more stuff at ya. sorry, not commeting back at anyone directly, now.

OK, the Lord leads, what about this scenario.

We who have accepted Him, know Him, right ?

We must love God to know God, that's in Scripture, btw. :)

Now, when a believer is actively wth God, this means doing things His way for His life, I think it is fair to say that 'blasphemy against the Holy Spirit' is TELLING that person how to run their race, a.k.a. telling them , 'you are working your way to Heaven, you don't need works to go to Heaven, so you by saying that are not following God and going to hell.'

Ha. Funny thing is, and, I'm dead-serious, and YOU KNOW who I am talking to, not to mention names, and, I will RAP you IF you dare mention someone's name as a typical Christian judger on c.c. :)

Green, why do you smile when you do that??

Idk, the Lord leads :)_

But, yeah, Christ peeps, be DEAD SET AGAINST subtly judging others on c.c., I, for one, will call that to attention, if you know what I mean ;)

So, blasphemy is many things, isn't it? LOL, I am commenting on what you all said, I said I wouldn;'t but the Lord.... Right , ya got it ;)

Ok, some comments addressed....

Uh, yeah, great words from you oxedwolf, as, yes, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit can be speaking insults to Him, degrading Him, devaluing Him in front of others, or, even, in front of yourself.

ohzone, really. Is my definition not accurate. Blasphemy can be many definitions, and, certainly mine of 'denying Christ' who IS the Holy Spirit is one of them :) I'm glad we agree now :D

kinny, forgot what you said but it was well said.

OK, enough commenting, I REALLY want you to digest the uncondemning words I said above my comments, ya all :)

Oh, one other comment, deejayness, YOU have NOT committed blasphemy against the Holy Spirit IF you are in Him, I don't care IF you think you trampled Him in one of your (many) weak moments of life getting you down. YOU love Him, don't you? And, don't you know, only He truly knows your HEART :)
It's not for a Christian to worry about, that 'blasphemy against the Holy Spirit' thing, IF they are whole-heartedly, beating themselves up to let the Lord lead them, and, oh yes, I, green, say that in the nicest way to you, fellow peeps. Afterall, how can I not , I green and I nice :)

Where is the scripture to support ; blasphemy against the H.S as being :'' telling a person how to run their race " ? Because, i have not found that written in connection to the H.S. as being a form of blasphemy...... I comment only because i would like more scripture for this topic. and more scripture in general in the Bible Forum to support some of these claims.

No its one thing expressed in many different ways. However your definition is to broad.

Your example is speaking against the persons ideas and maybe even the person not the holy spirit. Jesus said speaking against the man can be forgiven .

oh, i don't know...

sometimes, I think, God (actively) loves us a whole lot when we sin.
it's the only way we are brought back to a place of repentance. :)

i believe when I do something contrary to His will,
He just pours grace out on me till I turn back to Him.

it is God's kindness that leads us to repentance. ♥

It's my understanding that blasphemy is unbelief or denial of the Holy Spirit, not it does not mean it's the unpardonable sin; Although the unpardonable is an on going rejection of the Holy Spirit up to the point of death in which is under the sin of blasphemy. In other words, there are multiple types of sin under the class of blasphemy, and the unpardonable sin is only but one of them.

Matthew 12
Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit

22Then a demon-oppressed man who was blind and mute was brought to him, and he healed him, so that the man spoke and saw. 23And all the people were amazed, and said, “Can this be the Son of David?” 24But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.” 25Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. 26And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. 28But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29Or how can someone enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house. 30Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. 31Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

Beelzebub (pron.: /biːˈɛlzɨbʌb/ bee-el-zə-bub or /ˈbiːlzɨbʌb/ beel-zə-bub; (Hebrew: בעל זבוב, Baʿal Zəvûv Arabic: بعل الذباب‎, Ba‘al az-Zubab;, literally "Lord of the Flies"; Greek: Βεελζεβούλ, Velzevoúl; Latin: Beelzebūb), with numerous archaic variants,[1] is a Semitic deity that was worshiped in the Philistine city of Ekron. In later Christian and Biblical sources, he is referred to as another name for Satan,[2] and in demonology, is one of the seven princes of Hell.

Second temple period literature

In the Testament of Solomon, a Hellenistic Jewish text but with substantial Christian interpolations, Beelzebul (not Beelzebub) appears as prince of the demons and says (6.2) that he was formerly a leading heavenly angel who was (6.7) associated with the star Hesperus (which is the normal Greek name for the planet Venus (Αφροδíτη) as evening star). Seemingly, Beelzebul here is simply Satan/Lucifer. Beelzebul claims to cause destruction through tyrants, to cause demons to be worshipped among men, to excite priests to lust, to cause jealousies in cities and murders, and to bring on war.

Rabbinical literature

Rabbinical literature commentary equates Baal Zebub of Ekron as lord of the "fly."[15][16] The word Beelzebub in rabbinical texts is a mockery of the Ba'al religion, which ancient Hebrews considered to be idol (or false God) worship.[17]

New Testament

In Mark 3:22, the Pharisees accuse Jesus of driving out demons by the power of Beelzeboul, prince of demons, the name also appearing in the expanded version in Matthew 12:24,27 and Luke 11:15,18-19. The name also occurs in Matthew 10:25.

Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.─Matthew 12:25-28

no christian has or will commit that sin.
1 Corinthians 12:3
Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus be cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

the Holy Spirit will not speak against Himself, nor Christ.
a kingdom divided against itself can not stand.

go back to Matthew and read it again.

Let me take advantage of your to clarify to Ariel also. Jesus does not drive His sheep; He leads them. The panic attack is not of God. Even if you are in deep sin, the Holy Spirit operates as a convincer, and a motivator toward restoration of peace, not as a threat to the point of panic.

Yep, I AM . Don't judge, don't condemn, don't run another's race if THEIR foundation, too, is in Christ, ohzone, or, else I can't see where doing this judgment against another in Christ with Him IN them would not be a form of blasphemy against the Spirit; it is purporting to place another believer into a state of weakness with their Christ as they view Him devalued by the Christian 'plank-blind' judger's un-Spirited judgment. Run your own race ! :) < This said to no one in particular :)

Food for thought, as, when you are a Christian, having accepted the Spirit into your life, you will know what you do to another brother, or, sister, He in you will tell you to quit hurting Him (denying His leading) by hurting other Christian. And, this is especially true of advantaging your greater bible knowledge to belittle and break someone, THAT, milady, is what MOST we must be careful of :)

This is only true if the individual die in his/her condition. There is nothing God can't forgive or won't forgive if forgiveness is authentically asked for. Remember 1 John 1:9.

Now, that you've read it, what is being said, and, I hope through Him, is that one needs to be careful of disrupting the core belief system of a Christian and dissuading them from believing, quite possible JUST as the Lord God intended them to believe.

No, telling someone that their 'race' is being is not wrong in and of itself, and, certainly not blasphemy, but, Scripture does say to not do someting for a little one to STUmBle and we should heed the GREAT meaning of this verse. :)

We should keep in mind that when we get a brother or sister to stop a sin in their life, it COVERS A MULTITUDE OF SINS. These are important ideas to keep in mind, because emphasis by Paul is put on these verses of their importance. Oh, wait, the one about 'stumble,' that's not Paul is it, gulp!, that's precious Jesus :)

Where we are at the moment, which I am convinced is the end times, one of the most important things to refrain from in the doctrine and fellowship of demons. We serve a jealous God and one cannot partake of the lords table and the fellowship of demons. Trust your soul and life with Jesus and Him only.
