This weekend, The kids and I are camping by the river, canoeing down it, then camping next to it. There is a whole host of sounds contained in that that I like, not the least of which is the kids laughing as we paddle along.

When it's raining and hearing a car drive by. The sound the tires make kicking the rainwater up from the road and the (usually) slower hum of the engine as it eeks by.

.............silence...............
have you ever been in an external-sound-proof room, where you can hear your heart beat and even the force of the blood in your vessels under the louder sound of your breathing?

when i was a kid i experienced that in some science museum; i can't remember where.

i don't think i've ever heard silence (!)

Hey I was a kid......but when your in the dark right as the snow stops falling.....my family use to have a cabin in the Poconos. ...you get that moment when everything is silent......and it feels like your waiting for any sound that makes this moment real.....that's the closest I've come to it....
