Never eat camel or mutton.

Have you ever eat mutton that tastes like camel?

Either way it sounds disgusting
Whaaat? It is not! It is delicious. Really tender and nice.

That being said, any meat in itself doesn't really taste much does it? Depends what you do with it and how you season it

I watch Bizzare Foods pretty regularly, so the things I used to consider really weird are not so much anymore. As much as my food tastes have changed dramatically over the last few years, I can't say with 100% certainty that I wouldn't try something just because it looks odd. Sure, there are some things out there that might be a tough sell for my palette, but I wouldn't know for sure unless I tried them.

Some of the stuff around here that others might see as strange:


Blood sausage: (also known as Black sausage). Basically congealed blood mixed with a lot of other junk and fried up as a breakfast sausage. Never tried this one, but I don't really care to.

Lefse: Mashed potatoes mixed with flour, milk, oil etc. and fried like a tortilla. This one is AMAZING!! It is often eaten by spreading with butter and rolling it up. Some also sprinkle sugar on it for a dessert.

Lutefisk: cod fish aged in a lye solution which is then soaked off and the fish is cooked with lots of butter and other amazing things. But as my dad would say: "Rotten fish soaked in poison."
So, if I come to your house, I'll be living on Lefse? Sounds good!

Never realised we had so many head eaters on CC. Lol
I've had a mouthful of fishhead stew. "The eyeballs thicken it." (Dad's tagline the whole day he was cooking it. And, pewww! It smelled awful all day too! lol)

My dad was thrifty (cheap), before he was rich, and then became eccentric, because that's what you call cheap rich people. So most of our meals growing up he bagged or hooked. (Hunted or fished.)

AND whatever he cooked we had to eat. It didn't matter if we liked it or not. We had to eat it. His rule.

Two times he broke his own rule:
-- Fishhead stew, (maybe the eyeballs thickened it, but it tasted exactly like what it was -- the part of the fish everyone throws away for a reason. lol)
-- Fried freshwater eel. (Felt and tasted like inner tubes in a bicycle tire.)

And, then when I was in my 20s, hubby introduced me to something I never ate as a child. Never had to eat, because it was never served. Liver!

How about that! Dad didn't have to eat what he didn't like! After all those years of eating all sorts of things I truly hated, I discovered something Dad didn't like!

And, guess what! He was right! It tastes awful! lol

I swear, I thought I was going to be a permanent invalid for a day or two after I ate this :D
Seriously? And you eat lutefisk? Even fishhead stew has to be better than that. lol

Dang, I love it. My grandmother used to buy it all the time. She ate pigs' feet, but I didn't (although there are pigs' feet in head cheese). Her father was a hog/cotton/peanut farmer. She said they ate everything on the pig except the squeal. They fried the pigs' tails.

Souse is good, it is head cheese, but in vinegar.
And speaking of everything on the pig but the squeal, then there is scrapple! The Pennsylvania Dutch version of that phrase! (John loves it. I think it's okay, but not as good as bacon. Then again, we got old and can't eat pork anymore no matter how it's served.)

This may not be strange but I bought some beet chips, they are not the potato chip kind...I was just looking for healthier snacks...I got some dry sea weed too...lol
these are not the best tasting but lots of vits and minerals

I had beet chips in Scotland. Really yummy!
Tried making some myself, but couldn't get the crispy

Sure :). But it is kind of finicky and usually takes some practicing and experimenting to figure out exactly the right amount of flour etc (since it might change depending the weather or how much water content is in the potatoes or whatever). In the next day or two I'll try to dig it up and post it here :)

I'm quite familiar with the balut and penoy mentioned here, the latter simply being white and yellow inside. But not of the other Pateros variations mentioned, incl the egg omelet. Tinkerbell mentioned abt chicks in balut a few days old and idk how, but when vendors sell they shake a little and can tell when the chick is very small or bigger. I think it is alright when the chick is small, but the young feathers turn off some people in older chicks balut.
