Why does being Christian mean you have to hate same-sex marriage?

If it were a choice between sending a child to live with a heterosexual couple who would beat them mercilessly all day, everyday, or send them to a homosexual home with loving, caring parents, who in their right mind would send it to the first house?

I don't support gay marriage for myself because I'm not a lesbian. However, I won't stop others form loving who they love. Why is it any different than letting two Hindus get married? They are in a relationship that is completely different from your own and you don't agree with their views, but there is NO thought whatsoever that we should forbid all Hindus to get married.

I think the anti-same sex marriage people are simply hypocritical sure they might be 'sinning' but then so are the married abusers, atheists, adulterers, and various other criminals no one cares about them...I guess its too guys stand out as an easier target than the woman or man who is secretly cheating on their spouse or unbelievers.

Homosexuality is more dangerous than smoking??? What standards are there? Can people die from secondhand homosexuality? Will being in the same room as a homosexual cause you to get cancer? Are you breathing in their gay?

Drunks, drug abusers, child abusers, criminals are not simply trying to be with the one that they love. They are not trying to marry their bottle of alcohol. And before anyone says anything- a bottle of alcohol can't give consent, so it's not the same. Two grown adults who are consenting to be with each other, and only with each other should be allowed to do so without fear of being judged.

My parents went through sheer agonizing hell trying to get married because they were abominations. My dad is white, my mom is black. People quoted scripture at them constantly and told them God hated them because they wanted to interraccially marry. Nowadays, we realize that's silly. It will be the same way with same-sex marriage.

NOW there is nothing wrong with interracial marriages. A few decades ago, it was an abomination. Friends who are drinking, doing drugs, thieving, having groups sex(if all consensual then they're find!) Is it good for society? It depends. Is it a good moral to live by? Again, depends on who you ask. Homosexuals die by the age of 42. All teen pregnancies, every single one, occurs before age 20. I mean, you can throw out statistics, but it doesn't necessarily make it true. Well, the teen pregnancy one just because of the age.

Where do we draw the line with homosexuality? If I kiss a girl, am I automatically a lesbian and going to die by age 42?

Well on average if a recovering alcoholic has another drink then they normally go straight back to drinking the same if not more harming their body the temple of the Holy Spirit. If you play with firs does that mean you will get burned?? No but it sure increases your chances ..

But those are not death sentences. Yes, a recovering alcoholic can slip. Yes playing with fire can burn you. But you can say it the other way. Look at missionary work- A young girl on some island has never heard of Jesus. As soon as the missionaries tell her about Jesus and tells her to abandon all the beliefs she and her family has had for generations, you're gambling her soul for her. If she refuses, she's damned.

A slip up on alcoholism doesn't seem to have the same effect as homosexuality. Homosexuality makes you die at age 42....another drink makes you drunk and can possibly hurt your body later on down the road.

It doesn't matter. She still kissed a girl. The Bible says man should not lie with man, nor women with women. When I had nightmares, I'd climb into bed with mom and dad to be safe. Technically I was lying with a woman, that means both of us are going to die at 42?

"man should not lie with man" is used in a sexual context. It means, no homosexual sex. It doesn't mean that you, being in the same bed as your parents makes it a homosexual encounter... anymore than a mother being pregnant qualifies as incest, because the child is in her uterus. Please.

But why not? Interpreting certain passages and not others starts getting tricky...How do you know which ones are what God actually meant and others we can twist and interpret?

The wrong kind of questions are being asked here.

You may want it to be that way, so that way it would be convenient toward your goals... it isn't that way in reality though.

Being a Christian means you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, and that you chose to love Him above all else. Being Christian should always be focused on love. We are commanded to love our neighbors, no matter their sin.

Being Christian should never be about, "I hate you because you are that," or "I don't like you because you hold this opinion." We see it too much because we don't all practice what we preach. That's what draws people away from Christianity, and Christians away from each other.

Homosexuals tend to have a shorter life span because the risk of contracting disease is higher and they are more prone to suicide because of how people outcast them. One can say that, in general, they are more stressed, which causes early cardiovascular and immunity problems. I read a bit of the study, and it has it's good arguing points, and it has it's flaws. Part of it has to do with whether the people are having sex or not, but just by being a gay or a lesbian, your life span will not magically be reduced by 20 years.

The Bible says a lot of things, some which we follow, and some we don't. I also struggle with how to interpret some passages that I just don't agree with, but when that happens, I ask God for more wisdom on the subject.
