One thing that change from th OT to NT is Jesus! Thank God for Jesus. Life was a lot harder in the OT. Jesus blood covers us with mercy all the father has to do is look at his son, his scars and remember how much he loves us, that he gave his son for us so we can have a way.

God kills 70,000 innocent people because David ordered a census of the people (1 Chronicles 21). God also orders the destruction of 60 cities so that the Israelites can live there. He orders the killing of all the men, women, and children of each city, and the looting of all of value (Deuteronomy 3). He orders another attack and the killing of “all the living creatures of the city: men and women, young, and old, as well as oxen sheep, and asses” (Joshua 6). In Judges 21, He orders the murder of all the people of Jabesh-gilead, except for the virgin girls who were taken to be forcibly raped and married. When they wanted more virgins, God told them to hide alongside the road and when they saw a girl they liked, kidnap her and forcibly rape her and make her your wife! Just about every other page in the Old Testament has God killing somebody! In 2 Kings 10:18-27, God orders the murder of all the worshipers of a different god in their very own church! In total God kills 371,186 people directly and orders another 1,862,265 people murdered.

The God of the Bible also allows slavery, including selling your own daughter as a sex slave (Exodus 21:1-11), child abuse (Judges 11:29-40 and Isaiah 13:16), and bashing babies against rocks (Hosea 13:16 & Psalms 137:9).

Now, Jesus did some strange actions in the NT as well, but for the most part, he seemed like a much more forgiving and over all nicer guy.

In any case...this seems like a very different person than the one going around hanging out with prostitutes and sinners trying to help them. Jesus basically was walking around town hanging out with the worst of the worst and tyring to make them better people. Not killing them for being sinners.

ok lets look at a few verses....

1 Chronicles 21

The Census of Israel and Judah

1 Now Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.

.... ok this is going to take longer then I thought to cover all the topics you have raised and I'm not really a OT scholar so let me reread the passages you have quoted, pray about it get back to you when I get a chance. pm me if I forget or you get impatient waiting.

here are some other people's answers to the question about God and the OT. I don't fully agree with all they say but it is another perspective.

The ?Harsh? God of the Old Testament - Answers in Genesis

Is the Old Testament God different than the New Testament God? | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com

I like this answer...

"
So, then our third question "Why don't we see God acting the same now?

I personally feel that main part of this answer is one of the more powerful truths in Christianity - that the reason we don't see the "God of Wrath" in the New Testament and today is not because God has somehow changed, but because all the wrath that we deserve was poured out upon Jesus when he died on the Cross. He not only died for our sin, but also for the punishment of our Sin. The reason that God poured out his wrath upon the Israelites is that because when He looked at them, He saw their sin. But when God looks at us now, He doesn't see sin - He sees His Son's blood wash away our sin. Paul, the author of 2nd Corinthians, wrote it this way:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (5:17-21)

So, to answer the question of the poster - "Do I believe in this same God?" Yes, I do - but I don't believe I'll ever be able to figure out or even understand His ways.

Well, I hope that is enough for starts. I won't be surprised if we end up back here again. Again, thanks for the question.

In Christ, PT

you can read the full article in the second link above. I'll read up on my OT things and get back to you. I've been studying Hebrews but I'll switch back to OT documents ;)

so what are your thoughts on the articles?

God is more complex then most people want to admit. they want to make God more human so they can understand Him while Jesus was human, God is so much more than the human mind can comprehend or words can describe.

Have you studied the world before Jesus came? the child sacrifices? the temple prositution? (sometimes Israel would follow the world instead of God and do what the world did and it is recorded in the Bible when they do this and then God punishes them for falling for the lies of demons and worshiping them, you will notice God does not demand child sacrifice or sanctify temple prositutes or many other practices that other religions at that time demanded as part of their worship)

most of the world religions people say look like Christianity did not before Jesus came. they had a face lift to make them more moral, compassionate and just. Demons couldn't demand child sacrifices anymore. now they work more underground, in the dark because of the light Jesus shined into the world.

can you even imagine a world were this was normal and worshipped?

well she is still worshipped by some but the whole human sacrifice has been made unacceptable and that is largely due to Jesus influence.

look at historical documents and see when the practices begin to change and the religions began to clean up and pretend to be more civilized and "moral".

I've read the Upanishad's, the Bhavagad Gita, and various other documents.

JESUS made a big difference and though the Jewish people had God and His prophets, they still got it WRONG some of the times. they strayed from following God's commandments and lusted after other gods who had them do immoral things and unjustly oppress people and do a lot of the things you mentioned. The Bible not only records God's actions but the sins of Israel and God's mercy for not destroying them and the Earth for its rebellion.

Jesus made a difference.

He cast out Satan and his angels from Heaven when He died on the cross. look at history and the world's religious beliefs before and after the event and tell me that Jesus did not make an impact on the History of this world.

Revelation 12:7-15
New King James Version (NKJV)
7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them[a] in heaven any longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. 12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”

Colossians 2:13-15
New King James Version (NKJV)
13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

God is not only JUST but He is also merciful.

lol it is almost midnit and I'm not sure if I'm even coherent anymore.

anyways its been nice talking to you. :) i'll ck this post later when I get a chance ;)

I've been called a Jesuit agent. We Catholics are almost as unpopular as Atheists or Satanists at times here.

I must admit, being called a Jesuit agent is one of the more awesome "insults" I've been given.
I would like to apologize for any and all things I have done against Holy Spirit filled catholics. I find myself often living my life like a monk but without a church (building) or even friends for that matter. I wish I could walk around in a robe and truly make people see the divine. Seems everytime God's Spirit moves me I am labeled crazy, called a demon or possesed of one. Or just a plain fool.

So I apologize for anything I have done in my life to put that some judgement on others.

Yahweh of the Old Testament has all authority to kill people for two reasons. #1. He created everything and everyone so He has right to it #2 All people deserve death and it is only by the Father's grace that we are granted the liberty of life

I just read Joshua 6 and it never says that God commanded rape, or that there was rape involved at all. I'm also not sure how one could come up with exact numbers about how many people were killed.

I believe in satan as well- it is written. If you believe in God you must believe in the devil. I am confused about your thinking but I wish you well. I used to be very involved in Wicca and New Agism, Buddism, a lot of "ism"s and I thought I was a very nice, open minded person. Now I have come to see those things as a curse and even a generational curse. My brain came to alot of conclusions, or was swayed, but either way I was not connected to the truth of God and right and wrong. I fully believe that on judgement day, we all come to the truth and I pray that anyone who has been dissuaded find Christ.

I also wanted to say.. has anyone ever thought of praying for the devil? He is fallen. Maybe a strange notion but I wonder... being separated from God's love is the cruelest punishment.
Many people are wonderful people and do wonderful things, but do not accept the truth of Christ. I think that is probably one of the most dangerous things about Satan... how he can deceive so cleverly even those people who want so badly to do good for others. Good intentions and all that...

Anyway, God bless you, Michelle. And please know, I really mean that.

Is there scripture somewhere to validate that Jesus "hates sin"? I think that Jesus showed his great love, but I also believe that it would only be natural for someone who loved us to be very angry at the things that pull us away from him and hurt us.

There is only one way to the Father and that is thru Jesus Christ!!!! John 14:6 The peace you have is a counterfeit of the true thing. This is the time to be saved, Rom 10:9-10 is how a person is saved. Being saved today will keep you from going thru the tribulation, in which the true satan you dont know will be revealed himself to you and believe me it wont be a walk in the park. And read 1Pet 1:23.

I don't know the reason why she was banned or what really happened, but I will say that as soon as she stated her beliefs she was outright attacked by many people.

My guess is she was trying to defend herself. Yes, she did take a risk by coming to a forum like this, but I dont care what she believed EVERYONE should have approached the issue with a loving heart and not attack her like some did.
