i would assert that any book that is based upon, references, directs us to, and encourages us to study the bible, along with deepening our relationship with God would be "studying the bible".

Why not study an important doctrine of the Christian faith instead of a self help type book?
Of course, we SHOULD study the bible by reading and meditating on it day and night, observing closely to make sure that we follow God's word. If anyone feels the need for and wants to study the bible outside of their personal time with God, then one should do so. And at the same time, if one puts out an effort voluntarily to start something meaningful and worthy like studying Christian book on the subject that is very relevant to this forum full of single people, i.e. marriage, by laying down a well-crafted proposal to find out if anyone would be interested in doing so in a non-pressuring manner, providing links to all the available sources so you can click and find out, then I think that effort should be supported and commended.
Today's sermon was about marriage as my church's been doing a series on marriage for like past 6 weeks, inviting guest speakers who are expert on the subject. Today we had Phil & Holly Wagner from Oasis Church who did a sermon on 'How To Affair-Proof Your Marriage,' which was also based on their book, "Love Works" and "Marriage Makeover." I think reading Christian books (and studying as a group, discussing and sharing thoughts) is another great way to study bible outside of one's own personal studying because it's basically a study on the bible with commentaries and insights. There are plenty Christian couples who want a marriage that is pleasing in God's eyes and often times they do know relevant scriptures on it. However, there are always failing marriages within Christian community and why discourage any effort to seek another source of help that is based on the bible from fellow Christians?
My siganture, "
He loves me!" by Wayne Jacobsen, a Christian book, literally changed my understanding of who I am as God's child and how much He loves me in such a fundamental way by reading and studying (I literally studied this book) what the author has to say on the subject, despite of all the studying the bible on my own and as a group.
Okay, haha, perhaps this was unnecessary for I just wanted to say I am interested.
