Reading this Chapter earlier (pain woke me up about midnight) I was smiling quite a lot. There are so many points of interest in this one Chapter that touch on so many different arguments/theologies, that it took me by surprise. I won't go into great detail on all of them, just highlight the points of interest, and maybe a short reference/comment. That way, y'all can read and decide for yourselves if the verses I highlighted are actually relevant to the arguments/theologies suggested.

1 Peter
1

1 .) Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
2 .) Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

[speaks of "foreknowledge, not predestined]

3 .) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

[reveals, in fact, that Jesus was resurrected, and thus defeated death and the grave]

4
.) To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

[says that our "inheritance" is reserved in "heaven" for us]

5 .) Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

[Matthew 24:13)But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

6 .) Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
7 .) That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

[confirms that we will face temptations and trials in this life but we should still praise and honor Jesus Christ]

8 .) Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

[Jesus also mentions us in His prayer found in John 17: 20) Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

9 .) Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

[salvation comes by grace through faith]

10 .) Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
11 .) Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

[confirms why the Old Testament is relevant today, and should be studied, for even back then, long before Jesus took upon Himself the image of man, Gods salvation plan was in motion, and it was being prophesied of]

12 .) Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

[confirms the existence of the Holy Ghost who was sent by God]

13 .) Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 .) As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15 .) But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 .) Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

[confirms that it is possible for Christians to be holy]

17 .) And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

[just gonna say this one will have some here "running for the Rolaids :) ]

18 .) Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 .) But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

[confirms we were, in fact, redeemed]

20 .) Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
21 .) Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
22 .) Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

[confirms it is important to obey and to love one another with a pure love]

23 .) Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

[confirms we are, in fact, born again, of incorruptible seed]

24
.) For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
25 .) But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

[confirms that Gods Word will endure forever, so don't worry so much about which Translation you read, Gods Word will endure]

Good morning. It is always good to wake up with Scripture. One interesting point in that first verse. Who are the "strangers scattered throughout". Guess what? He is referring to the 12 tribes of Israel!
Isn't it awesome that we have such a loving God that He allows us to be grafted into the commonwealth of Israel!

If that is what is says to you, that's fine with me. :)

I'm sure different folks will have different opinions, and that some of the verses will have different meanings for them.

This passage shows it is faith that is key wellspring of life, to live an obedient life
which will inherit a prize from heaven.

Some would argue maintaining faith is not important, but this passage is about showing
ones faith is real and is maintained unto salvation through trials.

This would imply faith it is not a gift so much as a revelation or understanding of who God
and Christ are. Some have argued this faith is a gift, and not something that takes
root in us. Faith in all other aspects of life comes from experience and understanding, it
does not just happen.

I suspect is we disobey Christ, go against His teaching, our hearts will loose faith,
because this will condemn us as being wrong unless we abandon Christ. An alternative
is to say Christs forgives known sin and you do not need to do anything about it.

But is this faith not just making Christ like the world?

please provide the scriptural answer to the above ?

Yah, I agree all in Christ are grafted into the ONE tree of Israel, making all in Christ of the true Israel, there is no mention of 12 tribes specifically in which I assume descipelmike is referring to physical aspect of Jewish decent. Didn't Paul say there is no difference in Jew or gentile in Christ?

I disagree, where does it say the "Elect" is the fine state? What is your definition of "fine state"? Paul said if you are in Christ it as if you were seated with Christ in heavenly places.

Ok, so God is obligated to keep us even if we lose our faith, arguable point. Jesus did say if we deny Him, He'll deny us.

Thanks man!

I too, would like to make a controversial point. Born again to me just means taken from the one family of those who are corruptible (namely all humans), not meaning that we are born corruptible or in sin (doctrine of original sin) but that we are born into a family is capable of being corrupted. And after coming to Christ, we are spiritual born into a family that is incorruptible, which is the seed of Abraham, who is Christ. We are born again spiritual into God's family, It does not mean that we will never sin again, but that now we identify ourselves with and in Christ who is incorruptible. It is Christ's righteous imputed to us through faith.

Ok, so God is obligated to keep us even if we lose our faith, arguable point. Jesus did say if we deny Him, He'll deny us.

1st. I was just showing what the passage said,

The passage said we are kept by the power of God..those were not my words.

2nd, Peter denied Christ, Jesus never denied Peter. so deny is a loose term..

John said those who deny jesus have never been saved, they left and became an antichrist because they were never of us.

but that is still beside the point.

Saying we are kept by the power of God. then saying we are kept by us enduring to the end, are opposing terms.

I will say this.

Neither you or I think a person who has no faith in God period and deny him, or are against him and outright reject him, will get to heaven.

The difference is, You think a person can be saved, then fall to this point, Where I think God would never save a person he KNOWS in his infinite wisdom will fall to this state. They may act like a part of the church, but as John said, they were never of us,

The end result is the same, which is why I do not argue this point as hard..

To me, This is saying we have faith in ourself to complete the trials. Not in God who will help us make it through the trial, But not kick us out of his family, if we fail. This gives us the opportunity to get back on the horse, and try again (the old addage, if you fall off, get back on)

Verse 22 about the pure heart. There are only two types of hearts (pure, holy, flesh and godly is one. Then there is the stony, sinning, hard and human one). God does not take a human heart and change it, he REMOVES it when HE COMPLETES the saint to perfect man. God does not modify or edit or renovate the sinning heart and spirit. He REMOVES it. And what He does next is what makes us capable to be pure and holy and godly. God puts a FLESH heart where there was a stony heart before, and He put HIS SPIRIT in us. That is the moment GOD MAKES ALL NEW. A COMPLETE new creature. And the old one? DEAD! GONE! PASSED!

The moment God puts Jesus in us, at that moment we go INTO HIM! And then are we a new creature. ALL NEW, nothing of the old is alive or present or there... it is GONE! this is the Truth and the only Truth.

Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. God will not miss a spot.
Eze 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. NEW heart is FLESH
Eze 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. HIS SPIRIT...

2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
It is NOT the old man that goes into Christ it is the CLEANSED man.
This man is IN CHRIST and IN HIM IS NO SIN! If this was not true then no one was, will be or can be ever holy! And the only level of Holy is Christ.!!!!

The new man? ....Eph 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

This is an awesome God we talk about on this site!

We have to have faith for the Power of God to sustain us.

We have to have faith for the Power of God to sustain us.
We had to have faith to begin with.

A persons faith does not "fade" or "disappear" unless the thing they have faith in fails them.

When has god ever failed anyone to the point he no longer deserved their faith?

Oh, yes, you are correct as I understand Scripture. Did not know what he said, I can't see his comments. :)

Paul also made it quite clear that one is not a Jew who is a Jew outwardly, but one is a Jew who is a Jew inwardly, in the heart (Grace) not in physical (Law). But that is just how I read it.
