In Luke 5:6 symbolically speaking, the net broke
ahem. you are saying ((i'm sorry, not you, but Jimmy Swaggart is saying)) that the Lord of heaven and earth has a broken net??

although there were so many, the net was not broken.
(John 21:11)
can we please refrain from obviously false statements and try to limit the unjustifiable ones?

:cautious:

I think it's another overblown fishing story - "it was this <- - - - - - - - - - - - - - > big, honest. :giggle:

i think it is 100% accurate.

the fact that there is a definite number given in scripture is extraordinarily significant, and in John in particular -- whose stated purpose in writing is to give proofs of the Messiah. 153 proves Christ is God; John gives 7 miracles in his gospel, and after these, tells us about the catch of fish. it is as though to say - here are 7 proofs Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, the Messiah, and if they are nto enough - here is an 8th, which absolutely rids all doubt.

but it's not simple. we need wisdom to understand how profound this is.
wisdom isn't '
oh yeah the actual number is meaningless the important thing is it was a lot' -- that's a simple answer; a misleading one that overlooks the fact that God made sure to give us an exact count. He did that for a definite reason. wisdom is to understand why it's not 152 or 154 or 144 or 72 or 12. wisdom is to know why it has to be 153, why 153 is showing us the perfect glory of God.

i ain't even saying i know -- i'm saying i know enough to know that it's something to be known, that we ought to know.

Here’s a head scratcher, where the extra 3 hundred come from in 2 chron 2 or lack there of in 1 kings 5?

2 chronicles 2:2
2 So he conscripted 70,000 porters, 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors.

1 kings 5:15/16
15 Solomon had 70,000 porters and 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, 16 not including his 3,300 foremen who supervised the workers.

hmm like the math quiz here, How many courses did the workers do in a year?, months in Lebanon? and at home?.

1 kings 5
13 And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men. 14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.

Just wondering what the significance of this number is in the Bible, when the disciples went fishing and caught this many?
Does it represent the number of tribes or peoples or tongues or nations do you think?

according to some estimates there are about 197 nations in the world or different countries...
Numbers are very important in scripture and many don't realize that.
The number "One" is the number that Represents God. The number Five is the number that represents the Grace of God and the number Three represents the Divine Intervention of God. So the Grace of God was given to the Fishermen and God intervened and allowed them to catch exactly 153 fish so that He might be Glorified as the God of all creation.

how do you justify seven elders when there were 11 apostles? which apostles are you ditching? or you assume the elders are among the 'caught' not among the 'fishers of men' ?
Elders are not apostles, so that is irrelevant. But it was the apostles who decided that seven was the ideal number for deacons. It is therefore reasonable to use that number for elders, given the fact that 7 is the number of divine perfection in the Bible.

THE APOSTLES' DECISION
Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. (Acts 6:3)

Have no idea what the significance of this instance is......... BUT ........... several years ago, me and my Brother in Law caught 153 fish!
Yup, 'tis true............. greatest day we ever had fishing. Took about 5 or 6 hours. We were fishing at Ditto Landing in Huntsville, Al, under the old RR Bridge. People actually stopped on the side of the road and got out and watched us catching all those fish.

Bream, Blue Gill, Crappie, Catfish, Drum, Rock Bass, and a couple of Largemouth Bass........

We had them all in 5 gal buckets, but after we were through, we let them all go............ He caught 81 and I caught 72. What a great day. I posted pics here back then, but have no idea if someone could find them or not........ I do have a pic of the spot where we were fishing.......

I simply think 153 was the limit, Jesus knew it, and 154 would have burst the net, lost all the fish , the net, and a nights work .

I like that the net would burst.

thinking on that or the one more large fish would fall out of the net.

Good point Bro, And we know Jesus don't let any get away
seems the mentioning of large fish seems to imply IMO a type maybe in that a average fisherman would catch probably some small and large fish just tossing it out, though just the large fish mentioned seems to imply large fish that perfectly fit 153 in that net. if that makes any sense lol.

in the beginning there is no mentioning of a number except a large number, and the nets were tearing and the boats were sinking. quite the contrast from the beach.

Luke 5
6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to tear. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
