SAINTS WHO SINNED
Scripture is very clear about the shortcomings of believers. Here are some examples of believers who sinned:
·Abraham lied and showed a lack of faith when he said Sarai was his sister rather than wife (Genesis 12)
·Noah got drunk after the Flood (Genesis 9)
·David committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband killed (2 Samuel 11)
·Samson had sex with a prostitute (Judges 16:1)
·Peter denied Christ three times, and committed the sin of favoritism (Matt 26, Gal 2:11-13)
·The Corinthian man was involved in sexual activity with his stepmother (I Corinthians 5)
·The Corinthian congregation committed sin in ignoring the activity between the man and his wife (I Corinthians 5)
The fact that saints committed sin doesn’t justify our sins, but simply point to the fact that we are all human and stray from God at times and sin.
It makes you wonder why God thought it so important to lay his people out naked for all the world to see their dark sides, even after being called beloved of God, men after Gods heart, Chosen by God and righteous before God.

Is it because God is a vindictive God who will expose everything about us and wants the world to see his people are so sinfull

Or is it because God knows we (as his children) need to know and understand he loved them, in spite of themselves. he will also love us. Be encouraged, not dismayed or dismantled because we can not live up to what we KNOW is Gods standard.

I think you have me confused. I am saved and very much enjoy spending time at church with our Lord in prayer, in the Eucharist, the teaching and the fellowship. I don't feel any guilt or question of my salvation forcing me to go. You said a saved person wants to spend time with God's family, right? I lead the choir, dude! I want to be there! The best thing is I can attend church every single day and make as many weekday services as I can. I have even on occasion played acoustic guitar at these services although there is usually no music. To insinuate I'm a legalist that doesn't want to be there, that doesn't fly
Actually yes it does. Because you KNOW and BELIEVE that if you stopped going to church, you would (or could) lose salvation.

You see thats the sad part of legalism, it is so ingrained in ones sould and everyday life, it is normal. So although it in reality believes one way, it denies it believes that way.

To your heart, you believe you want to be there to be with Gods people. yet in your subconscious mind (because it you have been doing it for so many years now) the main force behind it is you want to get to heaven.

And the ones who have not found their rest........................Don't want us to be in that rest!

yep. so they call us every name in the book, and puff themselves up as more righteous than us, because it is the only weapon they have.

So, when one of us meets your definition of a non legalist, you change your definition and thenn as a kicker you read our minds? That's sad

I think you have been hating Catholics so long you can't help but keep doing it. The mind reading thing is amazing! Wrong but the attempt is impressive . Do you use magic?

See. you think so HIGHLY of yourself. you think I hate catholics (I have many catholic friends which would prove you wrong by the way)

I preach more against other legalistic ideas than I ever have about catholics.

All you do when you make such accusations is prove that I am right, it is a world against you mentality.

Get over yourself. get over your church, Your church is hated and people do not want to be around you people for this very thing you always do (puff yourselves up)

Actually I use experience and logic.

You claim one can lose salvation.

You claim you go to church because you just like it, and not to keep salvation (or not lose it if you stop going)

the two claims are diametrically apposed to one another. Sadly the only ones who can see it are the ones who have been there done that.

Why do you think paul was so apposed to the legalists of his day? So apposed and angry at the religious people of his day? and so outspoken about the problem of legalists in his day (as compaired to the rest of the apostles?)

He lived it. No one could fool paul because paul used all the tricks and excuses himself.

this makes no sense at all..

Your just babbling now. Is it because you have lost excuses to make?

Most of us have hidden agendas we have long since forgotten which cause us to do certain things, they have become so natural, we have forgotten the main reason we do them.

You go to church so you can get to heaven, or at least you hope. and you fear if you would stop going to church, you will or may lose salvation.

You have done it for so long, you forgot it is your main reason.

Yes, you may like it, may like the people. may like teaching or leading music or whatever, but your motivation (main) has not changed. You can deny it all you want. but your only fooling yourself.

lol. No. I am telling your you legalistic motivation.

You can deny it all you want, you can not walk away from it.

You do not go preaching that salvation is not assured, that eternal life is not guaranteed, that ones eternal destiny can not be known. then go and say your motivation for ALL you do is not based on your eternal perspective.

(ps. my motivation for all I do is based on my eternal perspective, we all as humans base our motivation for all we do based on our eternal perspective)

Yuo can deny it all you want, but in doing so. all you do is deny reality.

sadly if yuo would stop and think of it, this would be a great discussion, but I doubt you will even give it any as it did not come from a catholic father or leader, as most catholics would say :(

He probably didn't even mention the worst sins these people committed..just enough to give us an idea that they weren't sinless.

Not sure if you would consider adultry and murder a lesser sin (king david and his adulterous murderous affair and many wives). But I agree with all you said.

It would be a great discussion I agree. Where it went wrong is when you proceeded to tell me what I think. That is a psychological self defense system and the name escapes me right now of what it's called

And actually EG. I think we are to nice with David on the adultery. I would call it rape. The king gets what he wants.

yep. defense mechanisms keep us from talking, because we take offense. when most of the time, the other person is not even personally cutting us down.

I responded to this thread to say I don't suffer these three symptoms. So i must not be a legalist. The funny thing is people who want assure me that I have these symptoms.
