This is true that faith comes from hearing the word and listening to it, but i would hardly call the love god and i share a feeling. Feelings come and go, day to day but the love that we share is constant and active every day, whether i can feel the love or not i know it's there because i know what the depths of my heart is and i know the heart of the lord.

You cannot call such deep love and care with the father a feeling, it literally drowns you and consumes you. It changes how you think, how you believe, what you trust and don't trust. It gives you a new pair of eyes, it allows your heart to welcome the light that searches our hearts everyday because we can look inside our hearts and only see him in there.

My desire and love for him, the desires and love from him to me is not just my love and his love as if it was comparing two people madly in love. But it's a single love, as if his heart and my heart made us one. This why i speak so often of his heart and love. Because such a relationship with him is far to great and powerful to rely on (Feelings)

Felling disconnected from him is a part of my everyday life, my our love is far richer in those times because I tell him and let my heart speak to him even in those times how deeply i care and love him. This is how i know our love is true because even in those horrible times of disconnection our love shines ever brighter
Re: Speaking in tongues

that was the subject.
and your seeking after what you think is a gift from God.

The truth is God is searching for such a person who has the faith to bring back the dead or walk on water.
please document this as what God is doing today, or anywhere it says He is searching for this?

what did Jesus say?

John 4:23
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

It is written the only eternal gifts are faith, hope and love, all others will go with the fire next time, they will cease. Nowhere in the Word are we taught they have already ceased. This is in the Word and it is documented by the Holy Spirit, anything on any other document other than the Word, Itself, has nothing to do with faith in the living God.

I must say here how happy I am that you and I and all here are washed in the Blood of the Only Begotten Son of the Most High God. I know you are happy about this too, it is our salvation, amen.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

JOHN A. BATTLE

Speaking in tongues is a person’s speaking aloud in a language unknown to him or her, usually as a part of religious prayer or worship. It is clear that the gift of tongues was given by God in the times of the NT. Many Christians today believe that we still should seek this supernatural gift in order to grow in Christian faith and love, and to praise God. Charismatic Christians believe this and other supernatural spiritual gifts are still operative in the church; cessationist Christians believe that these gifts ceased during NT times and are not presently exercised in the church.

A careful study of the gift of tongues in the NT will support the cessationist position.

With God, nothing is supernatural. He works to this day, and so must we. We cannot work without His divine and apparent-to-others miraculous helps. I believe all the gifts are extant and more, for my belief, my faith and my tongue cannot limit our Father's power nor His loving attention to those who love Him.m

according to some things ive read in this thread i found inferences that speaking in tongues
will lead to raising the dead.

Its inferred speaking in tongues connects with God and gives a deeper relationship and leads to deeper love

Its inferred its a proof of the Holyspirit inside has been given

etc

but the bible says all wont speak in tongues, but all believers will be filled with the Holyspirit
the bible says His love will be poured into all the hearts of bornagain believers.
the bible say anyone who draws near to God He will draw near to them
and that He wants true worship Spiritually...this is to all believers.
the bible says tongues will not be fruitful for our understanding, so we are told by Paul to pray with our understanding also
the purpose of this post was only to point out that speaking in tongues is being held out for something its not
and in doing that i see some are highminded towards those who either dont or dont believe its for today.
the bible teaches gifts are not a sing or proof of salvation, many had gifts that were not saved...the evidence is in the fruits

I replied in the manner I did because you stated i rely on feelings for my faith and love for god. And honestly yo don't want to believe in the gifts that's fine but it doesn't change the fact of what god is seeking in us. He is searching for children of great faith, children of courage and love. If these miracles were to be done because of one of great faith who can bring back the dead and such it would not only prove there is a living god but would show his power and what one can do when they have such faith.

How many times has the bible spoken of great faith? How many times has it been quoted Jesus is our example? all the miracles he did he said we will do greater things. There is a reason for every miracle he did, he was showing what we can do through him. Why would he do all those things if it were not god's will? so in the same sense he desires us to do these as well for several reasons.
#1: it can only be done in the right way for one who truly loves the lord and has great faith, after all he has always sought for one after his own heart.
#2 even unbelievers can do this with faith, it has happened before and will without a doubt happen again. So just imagine what we can do with this same kind of faith but god having favor on us because he knows we will no misuse it.

#3: his power and majesty will be made known through doing such things for his glory and honor, with the right heart anything can and will be done for his glory.

I can go on and on for the reasons he would want us to follow Jesus' example in all this, speaking tongues may or may not be for everyone. But that is not the point here, I asked about this because i knew little of it or even if i can have it. I obtained my answer from God, And do you know what? He gave me the same answer he always does: Seek the lords heart and everything else will fall into place.

Deuteronomy 8:3
He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

John 6:63
The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life.

LOL yes he certainly is trying to humble me. I see humbleness as such a great and wonderful treasure, Jesus has so many wonderful qualities and I want them all. I ma very greedy when it comes to him, the hunger inside for him is sometimes too intense to bear, but i think this is the one thing we can be greedy about. I do not have much insight or wisdom, nor am i strong in faith, so the only way i know to know i am on the right path or that i am truly seeking everything he is- is to constantly seek him heart. As long as i keep my eyes on him he will guide me in the right path.

I don't know how everyone else proves they are right in their faith but this is the only way I know of. So yes i am wrong about lots of things, i do not claim to know it all. But when it comes to knowing his heart that is the one thing he made me good at. Sure i would love to have the wisdom and insight so many of you have but being very young in my faith i know very little compared to most of you.

Acts : ~30AD
Outpouring of the spirit of God because needed to start the church off and no writings of NT.
The people speaking in foreign languages didn't even know it. But the listeners heard their own languages.

New Testament written by inspiration of the spirit of God.

Today : 2013AD
Languages no longer needed to spread the gospel as Bible available.
Really, Acts 2v16-21 states differently!

'But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 'And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.'

This passage of Scripture makes it abundently clear that the Baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 1v4,5, 2v4,38,39) and the gifts of the Holy Spirit (including the gift of tongues, 1Cor 12v7-11) are availabe throughout the WHOLE of the Age of Grace, right up to the 2nd Coming of Christ...period!

you don't seem to want to listen to people who tell you the Truth is in Scripture - not in your feelings and experiences.
faith cometh BY HEARING - THE WORD - THE BIBLE.
not faith cometh by experiences and sensations.

but, many go that way.
some never come back.
take care, lad.
Amen, sister. After I left the Roman church due to the revelation that what I was taught to believe was error, I began to seek the truth elsewhere. I eventually hooked up with some Charismatic Christians. Then I came to realize what I had been taught by them was also error. God deals with us in different ways at different times. I believe now that the Pentecostal era was a sign of the coming millenium, but it has passed. Now I believe the written word of God is sufficient for revelation, and some of the gifts have ceased to operate due to the maturing of the body just as Paul wrote about. We still have faith, expectation, and love of which someday faith and expectation will no longer be necessary, and then only love will be remaining because love never ends.

This is an open letter to Blain. I have been debating doing this for 6 months, since I saw all the pros/cons that CC'ers have about tongues. The problem is that there are almost no examples of real, humble, tongue prayer on Internet. Almost everyone is showing off for the camera. This has led to a great deal of misunderstanding.

Back in 1995, my wife and her music group were asked to prepare a series of worship sets for a pastor in another part of the country. Three of the half hour tapes have a minute or so of authentic worship in tongues interspersed during the worship music. I cannot post the tapes as the music is copyrighted, and are just our personal copies. I have cut out the tongues clips and put them in an mp3 file.

Recall, tongues became a big deal in the 1970's in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal when 30,000 plus people would gather for the Notre Dame conferences and sing in tongues together. My wife's group was raised up by God to bring the new worship style (yes, young folks, this WAS new not long ago, in my lifetime) to Central Upstate NY. So these clips are as much history as anything else.

Here is the file: http://kenbehrens.com/tongues.mp3 it's 2.6 MB.

The references are the Ken K. worship tapes: Sept. 18, 1995 approx. 21:15-22:00; Sept. 25 26:10-26:42; Sept. 4 28:15 to end.

I think it is very wrong to record when people are speaking in tongues. I wouldn't want anyone to record me while I was doing it. That's not something you "show off".

When the Bible says tongues it isn't referring to the demonic possession people get. Its talking about an unknown language which one cannot understand if their talking about the word of the most high. People misinterpret the scriptures. One receives the holy spirit after being baptized in Christ and the father and is walking in christ and in truth.
Their is a law not to speak that Demonic language in church.

You might think you are talking to the god of the bible and receiving that language from him. But you are far from that.
You get a good sensation and a good feeling right. Examine this scripture.

2Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

Also people who are actually possessed by demons speak the same language as the so called tongues.
And names are very important; you gotta be careful about the name you call on during prayer.
Jesus is not the most high and don't just say god because their are many so called gods out their.

Call on the god of the Hebrew by his holy name.

Which is precisely why the internet is full of people showing off. The real examples are not recorded. Thus CC'ers hear it, and get the idea it is all phony. Believe me, I have been praying about doing this for 6 months, for this exact reason. These are live recordings of praise sessions prepared for a specific pastor and a specific church, as he did not have a praise team yet. The recordings were made to lead a congregation in praise and worship. We all just prayed before time, started the recording machinery, and led praise and worship for a congregation two weeks in the future and 300 miles away. The total tape length is nearly 3 hours, and this is all the tongues I could find.

I understand that. People think they are hearing the real thing, when they probably aint, and instead of praying about it to find the truth they just run off willy-nilly saying it's ALL fake.
Let me tell ya, When I was around it for the first few times I was scared too because I never knew anything like it before. But when you study the bible you see that it is still for us today. GOD still does this for HIS people. And it can be a private thing where you are alone in prayer or it can be in front of a church in worship or with interpretations.
Why would anyone want to dismiss this great avenue of worship?

Well, like I said, I hung out with some folks who were into it, and I tried it, but now I'm convinced it was bogus. Tongues is languages like folks heard when it happened at Pentecost the first time when they heard the evangel in their own languages coming from guys that didn't know those languages. It wasn't unintelligible vocalizations like you hear today as a result of the Azusa Street Revival. You don't have to experience emotion or even sensory pleasure from music to worship God in spirit and truth. You can simply read the word of God, be inspired, and pray to God without any public display. I understand that some folks think all the gifts are still happening today, but, after reading Paul speak about how some gifts would be ceasing with maturity, I came to think that what's going on is probably just wishful thinking. Personally I don't need to speak in tongues to talk to God. I speak English, and I'm pretty sure he understands it. I usually don't even speak, and I'm pretty sure he still knows what I'm thinking. Did you ever wonder why Paul couldn't heal his buddies who got sick near the end of his career or even why God didn't heal him? Paul also said love is the gift that transcends all the others and will never end. I'm not trying to offend you charismatic folks. I'm just sharing my personal experience. I've tried a lot of stuff in my life that seemed like a good idea at the time, but I don't need any of it now. Scripture suffices for me. It is through the word of God that I communicate with the spirit of God. I wish I would have known that and had the Concordant Version when I was a kid. I wouldn't have gotten into a lot of stuff I did, but life is a learning experience. Sometimes we have to experience the darkness to appreciate the light. And man, let me tell you, I was into some crazy darkness for a while seeking the truth, but I finally saw the light.

"Now whenever maturity may be coming, that which is out of an instalment shall be discarded. When I was a minor, I spoke as a minor, I was disposed as a minor, I took account of things as a minor. Yet when I have become a man, I have discarded that which is a minor's. For at present we are observing by means of a mirror, in an enigma, yet then, face to face. At present I know out of an instalment, yet then I shall recognize according as I am recognized also. Yet now are remaining faith, expectation, love -- these three. Yet the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:10-13)

When you Pray in another tongue otherwise known as speaking in Tongue your Spirit prays
(1cor.14:14) For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.and the very next verse notice it says i will-He is choosing to speak in His prayer Language
(1 cor 14:15)
Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit, and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand.
See He prays with His Spirit the carnal Mind is Unfruitful But He still prays plus He will also sing in the Spirit
When you are Baptized in the Holy Spirit Jesus is the One who Baptizes u in the Holy Spirit not believers although we may Lay hands and pray for you to receive this Baptism it is not us who does this this also Goes in accordance when two or more ask in the Name of Jesus then it shall be done so we are in agreement that you will receive this and then Jesus Preforms the Baptism
know you do not have to have this baptism or speak in tongues to be saved because of the cross know i pray in the Spirit all the time cause im building my SELF up praying which brings revelation also sometimes when you pray in the Spirit allot you can hear the Holy Ghost when your quite after you've spoke for a while
and you can pray any time you want in the Spirit in church ''silently between you and God;; or if the whole church is doing it by the Leading of your spiritual authority over the church and also pray while your driven walking etc.
but in order to do this you must be Baptized in the Holy Ghost that's when you receive Power allot of Christians walk in authority with No Power now im not gonna get into all of that but any way i hope this was a Blessing

I understand that Acts is still for us today. I believe miracles, speaking in tongues, healings - all of that still happens. I'm disputing the belief that I can't be a Christian if I don't speak in tongues. It's good that you read the Bible in context.

Every denomination has too much of a focus on something. For Pentecostals it's speaking in tongues and prophecy, for Lutherans there's not much focus on the Holy Spirit and the spiritual reality we live in, for Catholics it's too much man-made tradition and superstition. No denomination has the Truth 100% but there are core foundations to each Christian denomination that are shared by those belonging to the Christian faith.
TinTin - Wow, I completely agree - especially your second paragraph!!!
