that doesn't tell you anything?

it should

men wrote those things about women

hello? wakey wakey

men approved of those women and wrote about them

under the guidance of the Holy Spirit

I'll leave you now to digest that since it didn't occur to you
So, because they were men and not women, what they wrote was not inspired by the Holy Ghost?

No JBF,

I have never in all my years as a Christian heard a fellow Christian say they believe in an Authoritarian idealogy in regards to women--ever. There are men and churches that ARE Authoritarian--sometimes subtlety, sometime it's right there in there doctrine--those are nearly always some kind of cult.

Authoritarian: favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government, at the expense of personal freedom.
Again, appealing to emotions.

That is no proclamation, other than your own. Can you not see it is a strange thing to say about yourself? And how would you saying that about yourself have any baring on the discussion? Are we supposed to simply take the word of a stranger on a chat forum?

"When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or prove true, that is a word which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him."--Deuternomy 18:22
1Jo 2:20, But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

So, what, if I believe that this is a promise that I have obtained through faith (Hebrews 11:33, 2 Peter 1:3-4, 1 Corinthians 1:20, Romans 4:20-22)?

You have no obligation to believe anything that I say.

It is when you don't believe what Jesus is saying through the holy scriptures that I think that you might have an issue with Him that needs to be resolved.

1 Timothy 2:12 (NKJV)
12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.
What is the cultural context into which Paul wrote that verse? What is the specific situation? What is the textual context?

You're defending this lie about me.
"you obviously do not believe women mean the same to God as do men"
It's not a lie unless she knew it to be false, which I doubt.

If it's not true, then why are you so bothered?

Are you saying you don't believe Paul who wrote more Books in the Bible than anyone?

2) Of course women can hold positions in the church. It is forbidden to them to teach or usurp authority over a man;

... In such a case the woman is not usurping authority.

It is unwise to use words that you don't understand.

Ideally, the woman is not to teach at all but to learn in silence with all subjection.
So that she can... continue learning? No. She is to learn so that she can teach.

Personally, I would not sit underneath a woman pastor unless there were a male pastor over her making sure that she didn't lead the congregation astray.
But you would sit under a male pastor, who has nobody over him to ensure he isn't leading the congregation astray?

Maybe that explains a few things....

Sorry, I'm not seeing it. Why don't you elaborate on what you meant when you said you prefer 'authoritarian' theology (?) in regards to women? If I've misunderstood something, I apologize.
It means that I believe in the passages that I have quoted in this thread.

Well, maybe I would do better to tell you that I have an unction from the holy one (1 John 2:20) and therefore know all things...especially the truth from a lie.
If you truly believe that, there is no point in trying to correct you. The only one who can still reach your stubborn, arrogant, self-righteous heart of stone is the Holy Spirit Himself.

You can either answer my questions, or not, as you choose. I won't be answering stupid questions.

And He does that quite well without any of your help.

I'll stick with Paul. I suggest you do likewise if you don't want to burn in Hell.

I understand the words that I am using just fine.

So that she can... continue learning? No. She is to learn so that she can teach.
Under certain perimeters, yes.

But you would sit under a male pastor, who has nobody over him to ensure he isn't leading the congregation astray?

Maybe that explains a few things....
What does it explain exactly?

I missed that you were quoting a verse since you said "I have"---here is a better rendering I think as John had written the letter to believers to warn them about false teachers:

"1 John 2:20, NLT: "But you are not like that, for the Holy One has given you his Spirit, and all of you know the truth."

He is contrasting false teachers with believers--they are anointed with the Holy Spirit who reveals TRUTH, therefore all true believers have this anointing.

Honestly it did sound like you were proclaiming that for yourself--as in YOU had the truth, not me. Or anyone else that disagrees with you. That is my personal observation.
