Yes, I am new to this forum and my opinion might not be worth too much, but I feel the need to mention this. I have been reading some of the threads and have noticed that some debates seem to get very heated, to which I say Amen. How are we supposed to learn when we don’t or can’t debate with each other. In our own worlds and minds we all believe that what we believe is right, and if we allow each other to explain our different view points, we could actually have a healthy and educational debate.

What I have noticed though is that there are some who refuse to listen to anyone else but their own opinion. There are some people on this forum (and others) that obviously have a wealth of knowledge, but knowledge does not always mean wisdom. It troubles me that so many people stoop down to name calling and I have to wonder how many people know the Word of God and how many people actually LIVE the Word of God. It is possible to have heated and passionate debates and differences of opinion and it is still done in and with love. I therefor pray and urge that we all reconsider John 13:34-35: “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

I also feel the need to remind all of us that there are non-Christians visiting this forum (and others) in search of answers that they might not feel comfortable finding in a face to face encounter, and I also remind us that we (Christians) are the biggest reason so many people hate Christianity. One thing that stood out and caught the attention of people and resulted in the growth of the early Church was because people obeyed the new commandment Jesus gave to them in John 13. I also take this opportunity to remind all of us that we are ambassadors to Christ and how we act reflects on Him.

May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Yeah. The Bible Discussion forum had a bad reputation. I've seen countless threads on people trying to change it. Never does any good. The mods allow it to be this way so no point in complaining. It is what it is. You either have to accept it or avoid it. The rest of the site isn't as bad, unless these guys wander.

It makes me wonder how Jesus feels when He witnesses us proclaiming to be His disciples and we act toward each other in the way that we do. When I read some of the replies I feel ashamed that so many (and I include myself) so often try to teach others His teachings, but fail to LIVE His teachings. It reminds me of what a Pastor friend once told me; being a Christian is not about talking the walk, but walking the talk.

Well said!

I too believe that discussion and dis-agreement is a healthy thing for us all in the body of Christ.

Once people start with the personal attacks and the condescending attitude because they have a different view on a non-essential subject - that's the time to ignore them and not interact with them any further as no good comes from it.

Paul says exactly what to do with such behavior. Rom. 16:17

We should just let them continue with this foul behavior and not respond in "like kind" ( which the flesh just loves to do ) and leave them in the Lord's hands knowing that they are really hurting themselves.

We should be praying for them but to continue to interact with them is defiling to us and others. The Lord will let us know when we are to bring them back again to ourselves. He will be faithful to them and to all of us.

We need to guard our hearts and walk on in the Lord with those that have a sincere love.

If we keep our eyes on the Lord and His love and grace for us - then we too will have His love and grace released in and through us to others.

1 John 4:19 (NASB)
[SUP]19 [/SUP] We love, because He first loved us.

It also helps to realize just because people know the Bible doesn't mean they know the Lord. There aren't as many believers on here as you might think. (not 100%.)

When you have a lot of people with diverse personalities and backgrounds there are bound to be sparks flying occasional. After awhile you will learn who the players are and therefore what to expect. Yes, a lot of bickering going on in the BDF but that's the nature of the beast. I agree with your last sentence.

Hello FeedtheMachine, I am new to this forum as well. When people come here and post their brand of Christianity and expect viewers like myself to agree with their theology and offer me a second helping, if I cannot digest whats on my plate, I stop eating. It seems like from the beginning they are offering viewers new ways of applying the bible to our life. If they are promoting a false gospel I will tell them, if they are twisting the truth that is clearly not biblical i will back up my words with scripture. All in all it is a learning experience for me to be here and I hope to make new friends along the way. God bless!

You are quite right. Christianity is love in action. And when it comes to false doctrine (and there is no doubt that some promote false doctrine), we must avoid attacking the person, even while we expose and attack his/her false doctrine. Chances are we may not change that person's stance, but those who are not clear on something should see what is the truth regarding any subject without name-calling or anything else.
