John 5:
28 Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice
29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.

Just Wonderful! Who is like our God above and our Savior?

Here is something to consider:
Jesus said he will bring back all from the tombs.
Does this include:
* those who drowned in the flood that God brought to punish the wicked in Noah's day?
* those killed by the fire and sulphur God rained down on the wicked in Sodom and Gomorrah and their nearby cities?
* stubourn, and defiant Pharoah and his army, whom God drowned in the Red Sea?
* the faithless generation of Israelites, whom God made wander about in the wilderness, until they died off?
* rebellious Korah and his followers, who died when God opened the earth and swallowed them down?
* the Jewish priest in Jesus' day, who refused to believe his miracles, and had him put to death?
* those who walked with Jesus, and were among the apostles, but then left?

The truth is we do not know exactly who will be resurrected, but what we do know is that some will never be resurrected.

Consider:
Matthew 12:
32 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but whosoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor in that which is to come.

Hebrews 6:
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Hebrews 10:
26 If we decide to continue sinning after we have learned the truth, then there is no other sacrifice that will take away sins.
27 If we continue sinning, all that is left for us is a fearful time of waiting for the judgment and the angry fire that will destroy those who live against God.
28 Whoever refused to obey the Law of Moses was found guilty from the testimony given by two or three witnesses. Such people were not forgiven. They were killed.
29 So think how much more punishment people deserve who show their hate for the Son of God--people who show they have no respect for the blood sacrifice that began the new agreement and once made them holy or who insult the Spirit of God's grace.
30 We know that God said, "I will punish people for the wrongs they do; I will repay them." And he also said, "The Lord will judge his people."
31 It is a terrible thing to face punishment from the living God.
32 Remember the days when you first learned the truth. You had a hard struggle with much suffering, but you continued strong.

1 John 5:
16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

Consider too:
If the thousand year rule, is also a 'day of judgement', does this not indicate that persons who are resurrected to judgment, are brought back to life to be given a fair chance to get to know the truth as it really is, and therefore be in a position to make a clear and free choice, while Satan is out of the way for those thousand years?
So many people have died confused about what the truth is, and many continue to die confused.
How merciful of God to give those people an opportunity to benefit from the life-saving blood of his own begotten son.

Doesn't it warm your heart, when you consider the abundant mercy and love of our dear heavenly Father?

1 John 4:
9 God has shown us his love by sending his only Son into the world so that we could have life through him.
10 This is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the payment for our sins.

No wonder the Son loved the Father, and told us that we must love the Father with our whole, heart, mind, and strength!

What we might ask, is...
When does the resurrection take place?
If we can get a clear answer on that, it might help.
Those who come back in the resurrection do not become righteous, in a twinkling of an eye, so they must be a period of time for them to learn to practice righteousness.
Could that period of time be described at Revelation 20:11-15?

Hello theStudent,

If I may, when the resurrection takes place, those people along with the living believers, are immediately changed into those immortal and glorified bodies. At that moment, they are free of the sinful nature. When the Sadducees asked Jesus a question regarding marriage in the resurrection, Jesus said that those of the resurrection become like the angels in heaven (Mt.22:30)

"At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven."

Regarding Rev.20:11-15, this is the resurrection of the unrighteous dead. Revelation 20 states that the second death has power over those who do not partake in the first resurrection and those who are resurrected at the end of the thousand years are not apart of the first resurrection. These are all of the spirits/souls of the unrighteous being let out of Hades and resurrected to stand before the great white throne judgment. Those who have been in Hades and who stand at this judgment will be held accountable for every sin they ever committed, every idle word, every evil thought and will then be cast into the lake of fire. This resurrection seen in Rev.20:11-15 is for the unrighteous.

[h=3]Resurrect | Definition of Resurrect by...[/h]http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/resurrect

to bring (a dead person) back to life. : to cause (something that had ended or been forgotten or lost) to exist again, to be used again, etc. Source: ...

Romans 14:9) For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
10 .) But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 .) For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
12 .) So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Revelation 20:11)
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 .) And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 .) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 .) And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 .) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Hello theStudent,

Most definitely. Whatever I can help you with.
I agree that there is going to be a heavenly resurrection as I presented here.

Those alive, destined for heaven, the bible does say will be changed in a twinkling of an eye, but this does not contradict Pauls words.

1Corinthians 15:1Co 15:
35 But some one will say, How are the dead raised? and with what manner of body do they come?
36* Thou foolish one, that which thou thyself sowest is not quickened except it die:
37 and that which thou sowest, thou sowest not the body that shall be, but a bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other kind;
38 but God giveth it a body even as it pleased him, and to each seed a body of its own.
39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fishes.
40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differeth from another star in glory.
42* So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
43* it is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
44* it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
45* So also it is written, The first man Adam became a living soul. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
46 Howbeit that is not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; then that which is spiritual.
47* The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is of heaven.
48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
50* Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51* Behold, I tell you a mystery: We all shall not sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52* in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53* For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54* But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting?
56 The sting of death is sin; and the power of sin is the law:
57 but thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

These scriptures bear out that no mortal flesh can put on immortality unless first it dies.

This need not be debated, for this is not the issue at hand.
If one wants to believe that those who are changed do not die, that is up to them - we all have free choice.

I also agree that as stated at Revelation 20:6, the second death (has no power over them) - they can never die, being that they are now immortals like the Father. and Son.

I also shared in the post I referred to earlier, the reason mentioned in the bible, as to why they go to heaven. Clearly, it isn't to walk on streets of gold, and drink milk, and eat honey, but they were to be kings, priest, and judges, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
After serving in those areas for a thousand years, they remain in heaven forever.
God does not outline what responsibilities they have then.

That takes care of the heavenly resurrection.

What I really want to know is:
Do you believe that all resurrected ones are taken to heaven to rule with Christ?
Do you believe that there will be a resurrection to earthly life under Christ rule?

I'm not sure this is supported in Scripture.

Revelation 20:

4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Believers are raised to live and reign with Christ a thousand years.

And Rev 20:5 says but the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished.

I'm not disagreeing with any of that.:)
It's just a matter of different understandings.
I believe as I mentioned many times in other posts that persons are taken to heaven with the Lord.
But notice the verse you quoted last. Is that text in brackets? Why?
Could it be like when I say: "I'm going to put these in the sun, (the others can stay for a while) so that they can dry out."
Are not the others that can stay, separate from the ones I put in the sun?
That's all I am saying.
Yes, persons are taken to heaven, but the bible speaks of others?
Luk 22:
28 But ye are they that have continued with me in my temptations;

29 and I appoint unto you a kingdom, even as my Father appointed unto me,
30 that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom; and ye shall sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

There is some question whether the words "but" and "again" should be omitted. If omitted, the verse reads the rest of the dead lived not until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

The rest of the dead consists of those who were not beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God; those who had worshipped the beast, and his image, and had received his mark upon their foreheads or in their hands. Unbelievers are not part of the first resurrection.

Hello reneweddaybyday,

First of all, the rest of the dead who do not come to life until after the thousand years have ended are doing so because they don't belong to the first resurrection. Those who are resurrected at the end of the thousand years are the unrighteous dead who will have been accumulating in Hades/Sheol from the beginning of history. These are those of whom the second death has power over. Those of whom it says "blessed and holy are those who take part in the first resurrection" are the great tribulation saints. Notice that those who come to life at the end of the thousand years are coming out of death and Hades and are those who will take part in the great white throne judgment, which is a condemning judgment. Needless to say, one would not want to find ones self at that judgment.

Hi Ahwatukee ... in agreement. Second death will not be pleasant. Jesus said there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Yikes!!!

Hello theStudent,

Do you believe that all resurrected ones are taken to heaven to rule with Christ?

First of all, it is important to understand what the resurrection is, which is properly defined as "to stand up again in the same body." Here is Strong's definition of the word "Anastasis" translated "resurrection"

HELPS Word-studies
386 anástasis (from 303 /aná, "up, again" and 2476 /hístēmi, "to stand") – literally, "stand up" (or "stand again"), referring to physical resurrection (of the body).

Christ's physical resurrection is the foundation of Christianity, which also guarantees the future resurrection of all believers (see Jn 6:39,40,44).

[386 /anástasis ("resurrection") refers to the physical, bodily resurrection of Christ – and people (both of the redeemed and the unredeemed).]

It is also important to understand that there are stages or phases to the "first resurrection."

* Christ the first fruits (1 Cor.15:23)

* The church at His appearing (1 Thes.4:13-17, 1 Cor.15:51-52)

* The male Child which is a collective name for the 144,000 (Rev.12:5)

* The two Witnesses (Rev.11:11)

* The Great Tribulation Saints (Rev.20:4-6)

The Resurrection of the Church:

In John 14:1-3, Jesus promised his disciples and all believers, that he was going to the Father's house to prepare dwelling places for us and that he was going to come back and receive us to himself and take us back with him to the Father's house that where he is, we may be also. 1 thes.4:13-18/1 Cor.15:51-52 will be the fulfillment of that promise for the church, which will be in heaven during the time that God's wrath will be poured out upon the earth. After the completion of God's wrath, Jesus will return to the earth to end the age and establish his millennial kingdom and the church will be following Him out of heaven riding on white horses, where we will rule with Him on this present earth during that thousand year period.

The Male Child/144,000:

The male child, which is a collective name for the 144,000 who will have been sealed in Rev.7, will be "caught up" to God and His throne similar to the living church at the time of the resurrection, who are changed into their immortal and glorified bodies and caught up to God's throne (Rev.12:5).

The Two Witnesses:

These two Witnesses will prophesy for the first 3 1/2 years of that seven year period, where at the sounding of the 5th trumpet, that angel of the Abyss, the beast, will come up and will kill them. Their bodies will lie in the streets of Jerusalem and 3 1/2 days later, God resurrects them and they ascend up into heaven while the whole world looks on.

The Great Tribulation Saints:

This is the group of Rev.7:9-17 who are wearing those white robes and which is a number too large to count. They are the same group that the beast is given power to make war against and to conquer for that last 3 1/2 years as described in Dan.7:27 and Rev.13:7. These are also those who are in view in Rev.20:4-6 who will have been beheaded for their testimony of Jesus and the word of God and who will not have worshiped the beast, his image nor received his mark. John sees them come to life i.e. resurrect, and they also rule with Christ during His thousand year reign. This phase of the first resurrection takes place after Christ has returned to the earth to end the age as depicted in Mt.24:30-31 & Rev.19:11-21.

One of the on-going problems with interpreting the timing of the resurrection of the church, is the verse found in Rev.20:5 which says "this is the first resurrection." Expositors have interpreted the the word "First" to mean "Only" resurrection and therefore, all resurrections must take place at that time. We have already seen that there are several resurrections, which all take place prior to Rev.20:4-6.

The other error in attempting to make the resurrection of 1 Thes.4:13-18 as being synonymous with Rev.20:4-6 is that, Rev.20:4-6 is ONLY a resurrection, as there is no mention of living believers being changed and caught up with those who are resurrected.

Hello Renewed,

Those who are resurrected in Rev.20 are the great tribulation saints. These are resurrected after the Lord returns to the earth to end the age as depicted in Rev.19:11-21.

And Rev 20:5 says but the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished.

The rest of the dead who do not come life until the thousand years are finished, will be all of the souls of the unrighteous dead who will have been accumulating in Hades from the beginning of history. They will also be resurrected and will stand before God at the great white throne and be held accountable for every sin they ever committed. The church is not judged at this judgment.

So will the Devil be wailing and gnashing his teeth?
satan (the devil) knows Scripture. he knows his eventual demise. he is "wailing and gnashing his teeth" now and is trying to take as many men/women as he can with him.

Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Right. Rev 20:4 is the first resurrection and clearly these are believers. Rev 20:6 says Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection.

I'm not sure that these souls are all "unrighteous" because Rev 20:12 mentions that books were opened and one of the books opened is the book of life. I do not believe the unrighteous are written in the book of life.

Rev 20:13 indicates they were judged every man according to their works and in vs 15 whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Those whose names are written in the book of life are not cast into the lake of fire.

Hello Renewed,

Yes, they are believers, just not the church. After the end of Rev.3, you will not see the word "church" ever again, except one time in chapter 22 outside of the narrative. Yet, from chapters 1 through 3 "Church" is used 19 times, while the word "Saint" is never used interchangeably within those same chapters. Likewise form chapter 4 onward, you will never see the word "Church" but only the word "Saints."

I'm not sure that these souls are all "unrighteous" because Rev 20:12 mentions that books were opened and one of the books opened is the book of life. I do not believe the unrighteous are written in the book of life.
That's because those other books that they are being judged out of is not the book of life, but the book that has every sin they ever committed and every idle word they spoke. Because they did not receive Christ who was held accountable for the sins of those who would believe in Him, they will be held accountable for their own sins. Also, regarding those who are resurrected at the end of the thousand years scripture states the following:

"And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They[SUP]a[/SUP] had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5(The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years."

In the scripture above, those who share in the first resurrection, the second death, which is the lake of fire, has no power over them, which would immediately infer that those who do not share in the first resurrection the second death does have power over. The resurrection at the end of the thousand yeas is a bad resurrection. These people are being resurrected out of Hades, which tells you right from the get-go that their names are not going to be found written in the book of life. They're basically just going through due process. Then if you will notice, death and Hades are also thrown into the lake of fire. That being the case, what do you think is going to happen to those who come out of them?

When the gathering of the church takes place, we stand before the Bema seat of Christ and receive reward or loss of reward, for we are not judged for our sins and that because they have already been forgiven. In contrast, those who take part in the resurrection at the end of the thousand years, the second death has power over them. Just to be clear, the works that are mentioned in the verse are not good works as is with the church, but their works in the sinful nature. Their judgment is not a weighing of good works vs. bad works, for believers are saved by grace through faith. It is the gift of God, not by works. No one can be saved by works. It is only by faith in the blood of Christ that we are saved. Good works are only received and recognized by God from those who are in Christ. The works of the unbeliever can do nothing to help their situation, for they are still in their sins.

In agreement.

If only those whose names are not written in the Book of Life are judged in Rev 20:11-15, why does the Judge need to have the Book of Life to judge from?

The resurrection at the end of the thousand yeas is a bad resurrection. These people are being resurrected out of Hades, which tells you right from the get-go that their names are not going to be found written in the book of life. They're basically just going through due process. Then if you will notice, death and Hades are also thrown into the lake of fire. That being the case, what do you think is going to happen to those who come out of them?
These people are resurrected from the sea, death and hell (hades).

Revelation 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them

In agreement concerning the Bema.

Not so sure about the judgment which takes place in Rev 20:11-15. It appears to me there are some people whose names are written in the Book of Life. This reminds me of Matthew 25:

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

...

46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
