Everyone Needs a Mediator
6 # Short Commentary and Lesson from Job 9.33

One of the big differences between games played in the backyard and those played on a professional field is the presence of the referee. This person acts as a mediator between players and enforces the rules of the game. In his despair, Job cried out for someone to stand between God and himself. He wished for someone who could plead his case before the Almighty - a referee.

But there was no one who could represent Job, and he certainly could not think of anyone who could represent God. however, we are blessed to know that Jesus Christ, God's Son, is our Mediator (1 Timothy 2.5; Hebrews 12.24). His death on the cross stands between the judgment of God and the sins of humanity. It is because of his death and resurrection that we can make our lives right with God. Job's hope of a mediator had become our reality.

And he left the heavens to come to the Earth and lived as a human being for 33 years. And we have the Gospels to see how he acted with human beings and especially the apostles. We may think about how he trained them progressively and also his disciples. And how patient he was ! And his miracles ! He was always ready to help and cure people at the difference of the religious leaders of his time who were selfish and pretentious and heartless !

Don’t abandon your integrity.

If we lose our integrity, where can we go? There is nowhere to go! There is only one creator of the universe, one source of knowledge, the rest is limited and superficial and unsatisfactory!

4. Even in the most appalling suffering God is still there and still faithful.

Through the Bible, we can see that God was always ready to help his faithful servants even in the worst situations! We are leaving hard times, we never know what may happen till it happens and it can happens at any time! It is only when we are in trouble that we understand what it means! If we go back 5 or 10 or more years backwards it would be difficult to imagine what we live now! We need to get strength from him through the Bible to keep fighting and hoping for a better world and what we live is a preparation for the future! Once again we need to remember all the faithful examples and what they had to suffer to make them stronger and to survive!

#2 - Our strength is in God, not self

Job's faith found a way to persevere because it was fixed on God and not upon himself. Paul the apostle had to learn this very same lesson through suffering as well (II Corinthians 12:9).

Job's faith allowed him to express his emotions to God who was strong enough to receive them. Strength in God builds a faith that can trust Him, even in the darkest moments.

« The Book of Job is powerful because Job expresses his true feelings to God and his pain and his suffering. In fact, he speaks sincerely to him because there was a strong relationship between God and Job but when I read God who was strong enough to receive them, it doesn’t mean anything because God knew Job and he knew how he would react and he knew what was on. But yes, our strength is in God when we study carefully the Bible to do his will and when we speak about him, we can get mentally stronger, yes, definitely!”

Looking for Job

Job 3: It is after this that Job begins to speak and to curse the day of his birth. Job says: “Let the day perish on which I was born,
Also the night when someone said: “A man has been conceived!”

After this opened Job his
mouth, and cursed his day.
And Job spake, and said,
Let the day perish wherein
I was born, and the night [in
which] it was said, There is
a man child conceived

- So he curses the day of his birth so it means it would be better for him not to be born!

- When you say that it means you are desperate, you have no more hope, you don’t see any option, no survival, the only way to escape is death!

- IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH?

Looking for Job

Job 6: For now it is heavier than the sands of the seas. That is why my words have been wild talk.

This is an important verse to understand how Job reacts: Job says he feels really bad, the image he uses is quite clear “it is heavier than the sands of the seas and he compares his words to wild talk. He is in such a mental condition that his words may go out of control or further than what he wants to say!

Looking for Job

Job 6:

Do I have the strength to keep waiting?
And what end awaits me, that I should
continue to live?

- Is that not DESPERATION? When you don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel?

Looking for Job

Job 6:
Is my strength like that of rock?
Or is my flesh made of copper?
Is there any way that I can help myself
When all my means of support has been
driven from me?

- Job knows he is but a human being with human weaknesses!

- And he knows he is left alone with nothing, no hope, no way to escape!

- Is that the end of the way?

- We may think the same in some difficult situations!

Looking for Job

- The three individuals sent by the devil to Job offer him a bad meal!

- He offers them a DELICIOUS ONE, I would say THE BEST ONE BY FIGHTING BACK WITH ALL HIS STRENGTH AND FROM THE PIT!

- ABSOLUTELY IMPRESSIVE BEYOND WORDS!

- RESPECT FOR JOB!

- Having to do with someone who is quadriplegic is also difficult!

- Of course, the person is not going to die!

- Thus there is always hope!

- Let’s think about Stephen Hawking the physicist: he could only use his brain but he did it in such a way and the specialists only gave him a short time to live and he could prove them to be wrong!

Looking for Job

Job 7
Remember that my life is wind,
That my eye will never again see
happiness
The eye that sees me now will see me no more;
Your eyes will look for me, but I will be
gone.

- Think that Job was used to helping people and now he is only trying to survive!

- He doesn’t have any hope, he is waiting for death!

- When you listen to his words, you see the negative action of the three individuals!

Looking for Job

Job 9
He commands the sun not to shine
And seals off the light of the stars;

- Just thinking of the sun and the stars and thus the infinite universe is just crazy!

- It reminds us that we are nothing and we know nothing!

- And the universe keeps growing: that’s completely crazy!

Looking for Job

Job 9:
it is a matter of power, he is the strong one.
If it is a matter of justice, he says: “Who can
call me to account?”

- These words of Job clearly show his misunderstanding of the situation!

- Now think about God: For God there is no one like Job on earth, there is no one as faithful as him, and he must let Job think what he thinks because of the devil to show that he is a liar and also because all the angels are observing the situation! The more we learn about God, the more we may understand it was a really difficult and painful situation for God because he really cares about his faithful servants!

Looking for Job

Job 9:
if I wash myself in water from melting snow,
And I cleanse my hands in lye,
Then you would dip me in a pit,
So that even my own garments would detest
me.

- “cleanse my hands in lye” is so violent!

- Job doesn’t know what to do!

- “detest” is also violent!

- It shows how much job is affected emotionally!

- Is constructive dialogue or communication between two people essential?

- Well, Job says he can’t do it without!

- He needs to communicate with God!

- What about us?

Looking for Job

Job 10
Your own hands have shaped me and made me,
But now you would completely destroy me.

- The devil must be laughing and thinking he is up to win!

- Well, he has been quite successful with a big part of humanity!

- And he always wants more!

- He only looks for his own interests!

- In fact, he and the demons only look for their own interests like the religious leaders!

- They don’t care about human beings!

- they are only a way to help them get what they want!

- And they want people to think that God does the same!

- In fact, what we see in the Book of Job can be extended to humanity!

- That’s the same!

- The devil plays a game, I would say a chess game and the pieces are human beings!

- A game for the devil and JUSTICE for God!

Looking for Job

Job 10
Are not my days few? Let him leave me alone;
Let him turn his eyes away from me, so that
I may find some relief

- He doesn’t know but he speaks about the devil!

- He has no idea of tomorrow!

- He just wants his torture to finish!

- It can be death or life, anything but no more torture!

- But he keeps faithful and as the same time he keeps complaining because of his torture!

Looking for Job

Job 12
With him there are wisdom and mightiness;
he has counsel and understanding.

- Job keeps thinking well about God!

- He knows he is the source of wisdom and mightiness!

- And he invites us to listen to him!

- And both testaments are essential for that!

Looking for Job

Job 13
Listen, please, to my arguments,
And pay attention to the pleadings of my
lips.

- Despite what they, Job keeps asking them to listen to him!

- What’s the interest?

- They don’t want to listen!

- But no, Job keeps on asking!

- It shows again his strong will!

- He needs a lot before stopping!

- But we remember that he will finally stop speaking with them!

- Because he wants to speak with God!

- He thinks he is the only one who can understand him!

- That’s something!

Looking for Job

Job 13
For you keep recording bitter accusations
against me,
And you make me answer for the sins of my
youth.

- Job doesn’t understand what’s on!

- And he tries hard to understand!

- He tries to go back to his past as far as he can!

- Thus he speaks about the sins of his youth!

- Of course, it has nothing to do with that!

- But when you don’t understand what’s on, you imagine any possibility!

- Even something which is not!

- And it brings more lack of understanding!

- It is a never ending story!

- You build on something which doesn’t exist for nothing!

Looking for Job

Job 14
But for now, you keep counting my every step;
You watch only for my sin.
My transgression is sealed up in a bag,
And you seal up my error with glue.

- Job doesn’t know it but he speaks of the devil!

- Yes, the devil is working hard to destroy him!

- Or better said to destroy his relationship with God!

- But God watches him because he cares about him!

- Everywhere in the Bible we can see that God cares about man!

- It is his creation!

- But he also waits for us to care about him!

- Because he gave us so much in the way he built us and the way he built the earth!

- And because he wants to offer us a bright future on the earth but according to his standard, not according to man’s standard because it doesn’t work!

- The world is filled with violence and so many bad things that it is necessary to cleanse the earth from those who are responsible for violence and bad things!
