Whatever hinders a christian's witness should be left behind, legal or not. It doesn't edify.

If my weaker brother's heart(conscious) doesn't matter..... what then does?

I used to look at the old time Pentecostals as being very legalistic because of their lifestyles. After studying the scriptures, I found out some of them really cared about how their witness would be viewed.

The modern church? Not so much. They think more about their liberties than being servants of God.
I thought we were supposed to care about what the Bible said, not what some denomination did ( or thinks).
so, you know, since the Word of God does not say that " drinking is a sin " we should not either.

As many things as a legalistic worker for salvation finds fault with it is no wonder they trust in themselves over Jesus......imagine actually trusting the one who was called a winebibber because he drank..............

I'll quit smoking again, you guys are right. I am addicted but addiction is never an excuse to not quit in my book, that is why I do not speak of addiction for myself. Got it?

Credit where credit is due, this is a quote of Ben Franklin.
Actually, the statement made by Franklin was about wine. It has been taken by the beer fans.

Actually, once we admit it's a problem, that's step one in dealing with it. Not an excuse.

And good. Seriously. I really pray you can do it. My dad quit in 1970. He has COPD. My husband quit (kind of forced on him, but hey, God was gracious and he isn't even tempted to smoke now -- the compulsion is gone for him -- not for me), November 2015. He has COPD. I still smoke. I have COPD.

COPD sucks. (Almost literally.)

Kudos for you! I'm proud for you, man!

Every time I hear someone quit, it's like a bell on a Christmas tr....

Oh, wait! Wrong comparison. lol

But it really does give me courage for try number 7.

(Grapefruit juice? Not can do though. GERDS, so grapefruit juice taste like bile to me. But I am sure God can help me, since he knows I'm depleted.)

Don't abuse it and don't be a stumbling block to others.

I quit smoking on my 40th birthday. Was going to quit at 30 but didn't. Didn't start until I was 25 and was not living a very good Christian life back then. It took me a month of nicorette and patches but I did it with God's help. Was the hardest thing I ever did and I'm not particularly good at doing difficult things. It gets easier every day but takes about a year before cravings are pretty much gone but even then once in awhile a small one comes back.

Put on 60 lbs since I quit now have to get that off but man its not easy to lose weight when you're 54.

Right on brother. In my case alcohol actually makes me think about really deep stuff, I usually wouldn't think about. Mostly because I drink alone though...and just think. Its kinda nice .
Becareful on what you are saying because other christians can try to imitate and end up in error.Proverbs 16;25 there is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. Why?Because when you start to rely on your mind and let go of the word of God you will end up in error. All the powers belongs to Him and He knows what is best for you as your Father.

Two and a half years ago when I quit smoking, I turned it
completely over to God and the cravings were gone instantly.

Here is a link to a post I made about it awhile ago :)

Its understood that some can drink 1 or 2 beers, and not want any more. But some of us are not able to do that, the booze is like poison to some. It seems threads like this could be a threat to a persons sobriety, making them feel less than because they can't drink without having serious after effects. Paul said not to do things that can trip our brothers. Seeing some glorify booze, can be a stumbling block. Only if those that choose to drink knew what they may be doing to a person, that chooses not to. It doesn't bother me, since i've come to hate booze so much seeing the lives its destroyed. But i'm thinking of the brother or sister that has just chose to stop for their own well being.

proverbs 11;2 when pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is Wisdom.Christians we must be careful not to admit or accept what is wrong because not all of us that says God God will see the Kingdom of God.Thats why we got the Holly Spirit and the word of God to expose Sin because light and darkness can never relate.2 Timothy 1;7 For we are not given the Spirit of fear but of power, love and self control. In other words we can control ourselves in every circumstances we might face and if you want to get rid of any bad habit firstly admit that it is wrong and let God change you and bring you into the place of the Fullness of rest and of understanding who we are that are in Him.
