That may well be the worst response I have ever read..........it's AT LEAST in the Top Ten of....

WAT?

I can not imagine what church/group teaches what you are posting here
So now, according to this member, it's a sin to be obedient to God? This perception is contrary and complete opposite to scripture. Makes absolutely no sense.

It's a bit more... in that if we really believe then people will notice a change in our lives as we won't be doing what we were doing in the world we will be following in Jesus footsteps and the world will notice the difference... For example if we had a temper before we will be in control of said temper and treat those around us with love and respect. If we had sticky fingers and stole things before we will no longer be a thief.

So there is a bit more to it than just believing. Satan believes but his actions don't follow what he believes and knows to be true.
I had sticky fingers once when I was young and was escorted out the store in handcuffs. Don't do that anymore because, with the grace of God and willingness on my part I have gradually changed through-out the years.

Yes you can repent about things. You can repent of wanting to eat a ham sandwich. But Christ says to repent about unbelief.

As showed earlier in the thread, while not necessary to prove such a fact, the grandville sharp rule proves even futher through Greek grammar in acts 20:21 that repentance towards God IS believing in Jesus. The grammar proves Jesus is God and that repenting is believing.
I love the use of Grandsville Sharp.......ESPECIALLY in 2nd Thessalonians 2 concerning the COMING of Christ, THAT is to say OUR gathering together unto him......

That's the point I was making in reply to the post that defined repentance as turning from sin. Indeed the scriptures don't imply God sinned. But when people say "repentance means turning from sin," people are implying God sinned by their definition according to Jonah 3:10 which says God repented.
The bible does indeed say that God repented of what he said that he would do but there was certainly no sin involved. In human terms that can be readily understood repentance, in regards to mortal humans involves turning away from sin. People can imply anything they want about God but that does not make it true. God did not even change his mind but only relented because of the repentance of people that turned away from sin. God knew beforehand whether they would or not repent of their evil ways. The scripture is written in a way that can be understood by those that seek the truth and desire a positive spiritual transformation.

How can that be readily understood when that thinking is found nowhere in scripture?

It's very simple. Scripture says that works will never save you.

Sin is transgression of the law (1 John 3:4). Turning from sin means to follow the law, which will never save you.

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Romans 3:20 KJV

to this member, it's a sin to be obedient to God?
You know that's not at all what I've said, but rather you're desperate to hold on to your own accomplishments to save your self rather than the death, burial, and resurrection. You trust in your righteousness (Isaiah 64:6), instead of the righteousness of Christ which is imputed unto is through faith alone (Romans 4).

Trust in the imputed righteousness of Christ:
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.1 John 3:9 KJV

We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
1 John 5:18 KJV

Amen. Saving faith is dead because it produces no fruit. We won't be a light to the world if we put ourselves under a bushel. Men need to see our works, because only God sees faith.

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
James 2:18‭-‬20 KJV

I have neither accomplishments to hold on to, trust in my own righteousness which doesn't exist or works to boast about. Not everyone takes these posts as seriously as you seem to do in a desperate attempt to prove they are right. Personally, I would rather be happy than right. For the most part I read certain posts in the BDF for the high entertainment value it provides. I disagree with you about turning from sin means following the law. Of course, once sin is confessed repentance from a sinful lifestyle is necessary otherwise the confession was not sincere but rather done out of a sense of guilt or fear. Other than the part of your posts attacking my beliefs and the part about repentance means following the law I agree with this post you wrote.

You laugh and mock, clearly that's all you want, but God has the last laugh.

He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Psalms 2:4 KJV

I love you as does Christ and hope you find true salvation.

well, out of one side of your mouth you say that a very serious and dedicated Christian is laughing and mocking and out of the other you try to bless him

you know, that sounds just like something I read in the NT

you cannot ignore the fact that those who are in Christ, do desire to be obedient to Him

that has nothing to do with how we are saved. it has to do with what happens when a person actually is saved and renews their mind by the word of God

it is nonsense to state otherwise

no one is claiming salvation is by works. no one at all

. I disagree with you about turning from sin means following the law.
If sin is transgression of the law as scripture clearly states, then turning from sin is turning from transgression. Therefore turning from sin is to follow the law. It's the law itself that says turn and cease from sinning - "Thou shalt not".

attacking my beliefs
Just because I don't hold to your opinion, doesn't mean I'm attacking you. No need to play victim.

So to agree dead faith is saving faith?

No one except those saying you must turn from sin to be saved.

Indeed they are, as they've stated themselves that they are. No need to be double-tongued.

it is people who do what you are doing here that come off as arrogant + discourteous

you are massaging what people are saying and not coming off as someone that others can have a decent conversation with

the double tongue is yours as are the nasty comments

why do so many who are basically new members, think they can truthfully state what other long time members are saying here?

stay awhile and learn about people before sending them off to judgement that you could not pass yourself

you hope no such thing

you are simply being condescending and typically arrogant

and foolish because you don't seem to have the ability to listen

The longer you hold onto a lie doesn't make it any more true.

I truly hope you find the love and truth of the Prince of Peace and Life.

Take care.
