Did you pray for signs and wonders? No one is praying in that verse. It is a statement.
Maybe you should look up the context of a statement in scripture before responding. I quoted a portion of a prayer the apostles made in which they prayed for signs and wonders.

Acts 4
24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?
26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,
28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.
29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Do you have a problem with praying to be filled by/with the Holy Spirit or seeking Jesus?
No.

Where does Paul say to pray for signs and wonders? Oh wait. He doesn't.
The other apostles left and example of praying for God to do signs and wonders. Where did Paul say to pray for a promotion at the 7/11? Oh yeah, he didn't. Where in the Bible did Paul pray for a lot of people to come to the evangelistic crusade? Oh, he didn't.

Why does Paul have to say specifically to pray for something before we are allowed to pray for it? Your question is based on a faulty assumption.

If you are talking about your question, we agree.

โ€œA wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them and departedโ€ Matthew 16:4
Do you think the apostles were being wicked or adulterous in Acts 4? No, they weren't.

Look up the logical error of affirming the consequent. A wicked and adulterous generation drinks water. That is a true statement, but it doesn't mean that everyone who drinks water is wicked and adulterous. Nor does praying for signs and wonders make the apostles, or any believers who are neither wicked nor adulterous, into wicked or adulterous people.

Future telling is done and over. No doubt about that in my mind.

This is not that. It is "speaking forth" the Word of God.

1Co 14:3
But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouragement, and consolation.
The Spirit of God can say whatever the Spirit of God wants to. And words the Spirit gives about the future can strengthen, encourage, and console.

Agabus was a 'New Testament prophet' and he predicted a famine and Paul being bound. The Book of Revelation contains predictions and it is a 'book of prophecy.'

Great. I asked you previously to delineate your experience to which you responded with a dumb, sarcastic remark. So once again, what EXACTLY have you experienced? Have you performed miracles? Have you miraculously healed someone? What? If you or someone you know or have witnessed doing such, why are there still ill people on hospitals all over the world? Why aren't you or they healing everyone? I know why: it's nonsense, that's why. You can't nor can anyone else!
If Jesus went around healing, why was there a lame man at the gate beautiful in Acts? Does his presence prove that Jesus did not heal?

Of course not.

The presence of sick people does not prove the idea that God does not heal. It does show that God hasn't healed everyone.

It is separating fact from fiction, truth from untruth. So yes; untruth must be challenged, and thus, it's getting us somewhere by not being silent.
Point taken, my dear brother!

Agree, and likewise, we no longer need prophesy either since we now have the complete word of God.
Explain what you mean by this and where, if anywhere, you think the Bible teaches your idea.

The Bible says to covet to prophesy. You seem to be presenting this 'completed word of God' idea to contradict what that scripture says. Can you explain this concept and back it up from scripture?

Tongues was an inferior gift. Tongues was a sign to unbelievers. Tongues ceased as did all gifts per 1 Cor 13:8. Why would I desire this? Why is this needed today unlike it's need in biblical times? Wake up! You've been deceived.
Still cannot answer why you think it is ok to be rude, condescending and mock others.

Might that be because the Bible actually does not encourage that type of behavior? Yes. I have been deceived. By those who are cessationists and did not teach what scripture plainly states. Thankfully, God had other plans for me.

No worries though. God will not force you to believe or even stop your mockery

Biblical times. LOL! What times are we in now? Worldly times? Just as worldly back then as now.

You know that verse in scripture that states we should try and be at peace with all men as much as is possible?

That's good advice. You are going on ignore because anyone who goes to the lengths that you are going to make themselves right in their own eyes is not someone most people could get along with or even want to try and get along with.

You sound like someone with an axe to grind and best read on 'ignored'. You are arguing with everyone here and introducing things I never thought let alone said.

the text doesn't say that, nor is the word inferior used in 1cor chapters 12 through 14. Don't my word for it lets see what the text says :

Chapter 12 :

30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

What is the more excellent way ?

We must continue with Chapter 13

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body [a]to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

The context of the more excellent way is Let Love motivate your actions and the reason why the gifts of the Holy Spirit are used through you. Nothing in the text says the gift of tongues is inferior.

As we read Chapter 14

14 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.

4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

There is a condition to tongues, and Prophesying Tongues will do the same thing as prophesying edify IF there is an interpretation.

That is clear words of the bible :)

The passage says whether there be tongues, they will cease. It doesn't say the gift of tongues ceased in human history. After all, the coming of the perfect will make the speech, knowledge, and understanding Paul had when he wrote I Corinthians to be like that of a child in comparison to his speech, knowledge, and understanding that he will have after the perfect comes. Later in the book, Paul talks about the transformation that occurs to the mortal body of survivors at the resurrection of the dead at Christ's coming. I John says we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. Hebrews describes it as 'bringing many sons to glory.

Why would the need for tongues be any different at all today from back then? In I Corinthians, one person speaks in tongues, and another interprets.... both through gifts of the Spirit. The message in tongues edifies the church. The church needs to be edified now. Why would Acts 2 situations where someone hears speaking in tongues and understands it be less needed now?

Use your head. These are examples. All gifts have ceased since they were manifested by the laying on of the apostle's hands, all of which have been dead for a long time.
says who? you? Because the bile doesn't say that :)

You are the one who came in with an attitude and used 'childish' in a post toward me. I suppose it is easier to ignore than to respond to the posts someone makes. But I do prefer peace. I found the post toward me a bit snarky. Putting someone on ignore after one response to a snarky post isn't a way of making peace is it?

I'm keeping my posts tight to what the scriptures teach. If you want to ignore me, and if you spread error, I can correct it and others can still see it, whether you see my post or not.

The ignore feature doesn't make sense to me. Someone could post a bunch of smack about you and you can't see it... or teach error and you can't address it. I don't see the real benefit to it other than possibly stress reduction, and if discussions product stress, one can just not read the forum. To me it's like pranking yourself by turning your alarm clock 15 minutes early, back before people had cell phones to wake them up in the morning.

Are you uncomfortable with the conversation?
Hello, my dear sister, Well, only as much as a lot of insults seem to be flying now, and so I'm wondering if it's still worthwhile for us to be discussing this?

I totally understand that. Actually it is profitable to discuss but you are right that name calling or insulting is not profitable.

Paul's letters were mainly about correction, discipline and what many find to be objectionable since many these days seem to think we should forget about the sin and love everyone. Those who I particularly find like to argue, I simply put on ignore. Others, like cessationists I will usually continue to respond to because they are in conflict with scripture. I am pretty sure I have heard every objection as to why the spiritual gifts have ceased and every single one of those objections are personal and not Bible based unless the portion of scripture cited is twisted or taken out of context.

So, if you are interested in the subject matter, which has deviated from the original op and not really for the better, then just apply yourself to what is of interest to you. I don't call names or insult people. Although certain people find someone who will not respond to an invitation to a fight to be insulting just as certain cessationists will find those who are not of that tribe to be insulting.

There really is nothing a person can do when confronted with those who call names or argue even when presented with biblical evidence to the contrary of whatever their position is, other than to ignore them or respond if you choose to do so. I would contend that some here have determined they alone are the way, the truth and the life and leave Jesus out of it altogether

it has been my experience that the Censessionist do not want to speak of the text found in 1cor chapter 13:8-10. They just cry for a performance, do a miracle for them. As you can see, they do that here very often.

They result to name calling. They use outside sources not found in the bible but the secular humanistic approach to discredit The Gift of the Holy Spirit. Even when the very passages found in 1cor chapter 14 state the mind is unfruitful, they are spiritually discerned.

They will completely ignore where we agree with the abuses that are many with the gifts. Yet we do not see in the word of God where the Gifts of the Holy Spirit have ceased. They can't prove that with the word of God, so they "say show me," Perform healings," etc..

Then go to the world's scientific explanation to explain the word of God or spiritual things. I have debated Athiest, who does that.
