No - most countries don't have a pledge of allegience. Nazi Germany did; the US does. Most other free countries don't.

The Pledge is on its way out as a public display, and that is definitely for the best.

Like I said in my earlier posts: To take the American Pledge of Allegiance away, is to take God out of the country also. I rather have something in the class rooms that is the only thing teaching God in the Public schools rather then sex ed à la Sodom and Gomorrah style. And Anti God evolution.

Really sad there is even one atheistic person we have to deal with, and even sadder when Christians side with atheistic views which are detrimental to a people in a country God established.

While I'm thankful God placed me in this country, I've grown increasingly uncomfortable saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

Anyone else, or any thoughts?
"And to the republic for which it stands"......
Do you pledge your allegiance to everything this country currently stands for?........ Now that is something to think about.....

I question the validity of a pledge that was broken by the government itself.... This nation no longer calls itself a Christian nation, nor under the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. So what does that leave us with? To me, it's like waving a flag of the 13 Colonies...... That flag is no longer valid.

So you no longer claim that God was in the country when it was established?

We have had "under God" in the Pledge for around 50 years; either the country can have God in it without the Pledge, or the country didn't have God in it for almost two centuries.

The fact that anti-communist witch-hunters tried to turn us into fascists, doesn't mean we need their fascist loyalty oaths to be God-fearing Americans. Americans feared God before the Pledge, and we will still fear God when the Pledge is an embarrassing historical footnote.

Why do you believe that country doesn't protect our right to practice the religion we choose? Quite a bit has been done to protect this.
Those freedoms and protections come from the Constitution being the law of the land, but as we see with each generation, the Constitution is becoming less relevant. Then the fact that DHS says that people who take the Bible literal are dangerous people... *shrugs*

Certainly some things the Obama administration have done, like you said, are a potential concern. But the First Amendment is still really well protected by our courts. I am confident in my ability to practice my religion without government interference (or with swift and brutal consequences if anyone from the government DOES try to interfere). I hope you feel the same.

Why should I continue to pledge my allegiance to a nation who has murdered 54 million babies since Row vs Wade, has pushed God out of every segment of social consciousness, embraced homosexuality within ever segment of social strata including the Church, and has abandoned even the most basic principles of moral integrity? I will extend my allegiance to the Almighty. Not to such a godless nation.

It actually goes back further than Pres. Obama but I don't know how long we will have this ability. Although they haven't set anything in place yet, the government believes that I shouldn't teach my own kids and they should be a part of the collective. Little by little and I just keep my eye out for it.

I pledge allegiance to the nation only in the ways it is under God. Abortion is an example where it doesn't submit to God.

I agree, Romans chapter 13 it says everyone is subject to the governing authorities. It also says that the authorities that exist have been established by God. As crossnote said, align with God. Verse 3 says for rulers hold no terror for those who do right.

God is not first, family second, job third.
God is ones life, period. Just something to think on and chew the cud.
Actually brother, Scripture says to place God "first" in our lives.....Scripture also teaches us we are to provide for our families, for any man who can't do that.........how can they expect to care for the Church, or even do God's will? And Scripture teaches us to obey those who have rule over us and to pay for them.......

So I really hold to the truth of: God, Family, Country as my priorities in life..........and I know that it is the correct one for Scripture says if we put God FIRST all other things will follow.........

God bless.............

(chew the cud............ :) that's funny........only a country boy would know that expression)

The phrase: "and to the Republic for which it stands......" is not talking about Political ideologies........it is saying that the "Flag" is the "symbol" of our "Democratic Republic." k?

And as for part deaux............no, I don't agree with everything the Government is doing/has done......but remember we are to pray for those who have rule over us, and God TOLD us if we would "turn from our wicked ways, and return to Him, He would heal our Nation".............(or words to that effect)........SO JUST MAYBE the Church should be on it's knees in prayer for our Nation and our leaders, and ask God to forgive us our transgressions............and things would be different.......

Now, a personal note: I spent a good number of my adult life serving our Nation in the Military, and one of the reasons I did so was to protect our Constitutional rights...........and this ALSO includes those who don't want to pray, recognize God, or say the Pledge.............There is nothing unchristian about saying the Pledge of Allegiance, that is truth.

The 2 Scriptures that come to mind...

John 18:36 "Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”

Matthew 6:24 "24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

Like I said, I'm thankful God placed me in this country and I love that I live here. It seems wrong to pledge allegiance to something other than God. To me, allegiance almost seems to say that you're subservient to something else, or obligated to serve it. And while we are to respect the authorities above us, even secular (and I've been a government employee for over 10 years now), I wouldn't say I'm devoted to it.

Maybe the issue is more about the flag itself, rather than the nation. The wording of the Pledge states that the allegiance is to a symbol of the nation, not the nation itself. Could that be considered idolatry?
I personally do not see it that way,and we each know in our own selves to whether we believe God or not, and God knows too. So I can rest in God.
And understand what this country was originally built on, Freedom. Biblical freedom. even though it has become more of a prosperity Gospel, yet help to all is still here more than anywhere else. I am thankful to God in this.
I cried once that I had no shoes, until I met another with no feet.

Humorous side note....

My wife and I were watching Olympus Has Fallen the other night. When the terrorists are interrogating the president and his staff, they get to one of the ladies (can't remember her title) and they drag her off to supposedly kill her, and she starts screaming the Pledge of Allegiance.

We both thought, "Really? That's what you would scream? That's what is going to convict the terrorists or cause them to have mercy on you?"

Seemed a little cheesy to us.
You are relating all things to God to separate truth from error, continue and it will be done in you as it is in Christ. You will walk as he walked, yet not you, it will be God through you, and you will only give God the credit and God through you will save others, as is what the enemy is against us doing, asking God to not only live in us but more importantly through us as God did at the day of Pentecost. The enemy can do nothing about one's belief in God and being saved, so through condemnation the enemy does it's best to keep us from God living through us as God did in Pentecost. This does not mean we have to speak in tongues either.
Get us to focus on anything else but the new life in the Spirit of God.
Some meat to chew on for you and all that read this.

If God is your life, how can God never be first? Get the point. Now eat the meat and be who God called us to be, thanks and get your point. Just flesh cam play a deceiving role in first second and third.
How many have done their duty, put God first, went to Church and after that went to the second and went to control family. leaving God out of the picture, for their first duty is done, and Family need to obey, and wife need to do this or that.
HMMMMMM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! chewing the cud yet?

We are of dual citizenship, Paul made this clear, one of heaven and one of our nation. However, I do have a problem with what are nation has become, I pledge to God and our nation to make it a better place and to increase God's kingdom. Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and render unto God what is God's.

Mattithyah 23:9, "And you must not pray to or worship any cman on earth as a "Father", for you have only One Father, Who is in heaven. And do not be called rulers, for One is your Ruler--the Messiah."

We have only 1 Ruler, therefore I say we shall render unto Caesar what is his, NOTHING.

Especiall when "Caesar" is involved in this:
