In the bible, there is a scripture that says, to GOD we are the aroma, a sweet savor, of CHRIST.
In the bible, OT, one of the laws was that no man can come up to the altar on steps, lest his nakedness be revealed..

Those who believe the GOSPEL, have the RIGHT GARMENT...read Matthew 22

There were reasons why the high priest wore special vestments and had incense covering their breast pocket...

All these things pointed to CHRIST

Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood,
and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

When Adam and Eve sinned, God covered them with the skins of animals, and throughout history sacrifices were made which as @miknik5 says, pointed forward to Christ.

Hebrews 10:4-10 (NIV)
4 It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said:
“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,
but a body you prepared for me;

6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings
you were not pleased.

7 Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—
I have come to do your will, my God.’”

8 First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”—though they were offered in accordance with the law. 9 Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. 10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Matthew 26:28
This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Luke 22:20
In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying,
"This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you."

Are they fictional constructs or material entities? Why do require sacrifice?
Isa 44:8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.

Isa 43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
Isa 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.
Isa 43:12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.

1Ki 8:27 But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?

God is an omnipresent Spirit, and He said there is not a God beside Him, and there was no God formed before Him, and there shall be no God formed after Him.

God means supreme being which can only be one who is the God of the Bible, and any people that claim a god would be of their imagination, which is why they have idols.

God is a Spirit and everything else is of the material world, and if there was another god it would be of material substance, and God would of had to create that god, but what kind of god would that be when God understands the workings of physical matter and could disassemble that god, and God said there was no God formed after Him.

If there is other gods God would of had to create them, but there is not a reason to be other gods for God is omnipresent, and does not have to have a rulership like people where they appoint kings, and princes, and presidents, and governors, and senators, and a hierarchy, to oversee the people for one person cannot rule them all, but He does not need a hierarchy in heaven, but God can rule all be Himself, and He considers all people equal in heaven.

And there is no need for rulership in heaven for they put off the flesh, which all sin resides in the flesh, so they would not be battling for power and control, but be in perfect peace with each other being equal.

Which God said what makes you to differ from another, and Jesus said the saints shall be as the angels in heaven which they have eternal life.

But the saints will have a higher position in heaven than the angels, for they will have a glorified body like Jesus, but the angels are ministering spirits to the saints, and the angels desire to look in to the salvation of the saints, but the saints will not rule over the angels.

The Bible says there is one God, the Father, who is in all, and above all, and through all, so God is in everybody for He is omnipresent, but some might mistake this as they have divinity in them as if they will be a god, but this is not true for God does not give His glory to another, and He is separate from the physical world, and a person has to acknowledge the truth for the Spirit to work in their life.

But they are still not a god with the Spirit working in their life which God said if you think you are something when you are nothing you deceive yourself, and said the nations are nothing, and less than nothing to Him for He is so great.

So a person does not elevate to any special status when they have the Spirit in their life, but it is God that gets the glory, and He does not give His glory to another.

The only special status the saints get is putting off the flesh, and having a glorified body, but it does not matter how strong they are, or intelligent, for it came from God so He gets the glory, and they are not greater than God, and there is no enemy to fight for God put all the wicked down, so what does it matter if they are super strong, or not.

God said many shall depart from the truth of the Bible and give heed to an interpretation of the Bible that attributes nature to God, the God of forces, and that they will believe they will be gods with no higher power above them, and He said avoid that interpretation for it is according to their own lusts, and are fables, which is a belief not true, but their imagination, and they want to believe they are still evolving to be greater and spiritual, and there is no higher authority above them, which God said they will say I am, and none else beside me.

Can the arrogance, and self exaltation of people ever cease, but it will not cease until they rebel against God when the nations come together giving heed to the new age movement which then God will put the world down, and the mystery of God shall be finished that they will know of God that He is the Lord Jesus Christ, a visible image of the invisible God, and Jesus is not an ascended master and avatar, and there is no equal to Him.

Isa 41:21 Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.
Isa 41:22 Let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.
Isa 41:23 Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.
Isa 41:24 Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work of nought: an abomination is he that chooseth you.
Isa 41:25 I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun shall he call upon my name: and he shall come upon princes as upon morter, and as the potter treadeth clay.
Isa 41:26 Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous? yea, there is none that sheweth, yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that heareth your words.
Isa 41:27 The first shall say to Zion, Behold, behold them: and I will give to Jerusalem one that bringeth good tidings.
Isa 41:28 For I beheld, and there was no man; even among them, and there was no counsellor, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.
Isa 41:29 Behold, they are all vanity; their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and confusion.

God challenges all people and religions to prove their gods are true, and to tell the end from the beginning which God told us the whole history of mankind, and said no person or religion can do it, and their idols are wind and confusion for they are false and no gods, nor do they represent any god that does exist.

For there is no other gods, but the God of the Bible that is for all people that want to accept the truth, that says do not war at all against other people, and when physically assaulted do not physically assault back, and when verbally assaulted do not verbally assault back, and love your enemies, and feed and clothe your enemies, for God is in charge and will put down sin in due time, and the physical is only temporary, and when the saints put off the flesh and have a glorified body there is no more worries then, and also the saints are to be different than the world to show love, and going against them physically is not good for getting people to accept the truth, and Jesus said the hypocrites do not belong to Him.

God said the new age movement and their false interpretation of the Bible their conscience is seared with a hot iron which they will not show the love and compassion of Jesus, but will make war against all people that oppose them in the future, which then Jesus will put them down and show He is God.

And for people that would think God is cruel in the Old Testament, and a war monger, this is not true, for God puts down a thousand to save ten thousand.

God said He winked at their ignorance in the Old Testament which He left them alone, but if a nation, or kingdom operated in such a way as to have a great negative impact on people with physical cruelty, or spiritual deception, or both, God allowed another nation, or kingdom to take them down, for the benefit of people.

God only went against the people that had a great negative impact on people, so everything God did was for the benefit of people.

If God did not intervene in the Old Testament more people would of been hurt, or killed, or deceived from the truth of God the true benefit.

Continued,

In the New Testament it is spiritual so if you are right with God then everything is alright, and God does not have to go against people like in the Old Testament, which God is not causing natural disasters, and other chaos as some people believe, and He is not punishing anybody for we are under grace.

So the pagan deities are not real, which years ago some did child sacrifice, but God told Israel not to do child sacrifice, for He does not allow it, and it never entered His mind for them to do child sacrifice, or any human.

Without the shedding of blood there is no removal of sin, so God had them do animal sacrifices to cover their sins, but the meat did not go to waste for the priests got to eat the meat to feed themselves, and God told the Jews to not drink the blood of any animal but pour it out on the ground, and Jesus' shed blood washes away sins completely so we do not have to sacrifice animals anymore, but God did not send a person to shed His blood but it was God's own personal human body, for He laid down His life for the saints, and purchased the Church with His own blood.

But it throws some people off how can Jesus be God if God is an omnipresent Spirit.

When the Bible says Jesus is God manifest in the flesh it means that God manifest all His attributes to the man Christ Jesus, and the Spirit in Christ is still connected to the omnipresent Spirit of God for He cannot be separated.

Which Jesus does not have His own personal Spirit that moves around with Him, for there cannot be a double portion of the Spirit in one place, and an empty space where the Spirit is not at, but Jesus moves through the Spirit and wherever He is at the Spirit is there.

Which Jesus is a visible image of the invisible God.

1Ti 6:14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
1Ti 6:15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
1Ti 6:16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Jesus is the invisible God that showed a visible image of Himself, and Jesus said He will never appear in the flesh again, and said if anybody claims to be Christ before He comes back do not believe it, but the next time He comes back He will be in a glorified body and fights the world and defeats them.

King David said God is not cruel, but people are cruel, and some people say God is cruel when He was only protecting people, but mankind has been warring on earth for power and control, and the New Age Christ will do the same, but they are justified which makes no sense, for God does it for the right reasons, and throughout history and in the future they do it for the wrong reasons of power and control, and not according to goodness and truth, and loving people.

Oh, well in that case. On a scale of 1-10 how fun would you consider tending a lighthouse swarming with rats where your two best friends die from insanity and an infection from rat scratches?
I'd probably rate that experience a 4 or possibly a weak 5.

The Bible states the idol is nothing.

Acts 19:26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:
28 ...they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

1 Corinthians 8:4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.

1 Kings 18:27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.

Now the following is by no means to be considered theology, just my personal beliefs and observations... I believe these are human mental constructions, spirits that may have influence on people, but by no means are they "gods"... basically just like idols, something that people create themselves, although it's not tangible it's also human workmanship. Similar spirit is created when a mob gathers, causing so called "psychology of the mass" which is basically a spirit or energy being that starts through wills of people combined - but then, feeding off this, gains a will and life of its own and rules the crowd - people do in a crowd bad things they normally wouldn't... That's why God should be our only rallying. I think this is all demonic, and that demons do not only comprise of fallen angels, but some are basically of human making, that's why things like "generational spirits" exist. I think some demons form when a man sins and when sin takes root, the sin takes on a life of its own and has man in bondage, I'd call this an evil spirit. I don't think spirits have pointy tales and all lurk somewhere outside waiting to fly into a man, I apologize if it offends somebody but that seems a bit too naive for me to believe. I think that "evil spirits" originate from our hearts a lot of the time.

We do not wrestles against the things seen . But rather we wlak by faith that works in us to both will and perform his good pleasure.

Sacrificing to humans is a oral tradition of the father of lies who needs a human body of sin to spread his lies. . When a unbeliever that have no source of faith be which they could beleive God sees the invisible working of God moving men.

They naturally attribute the work seen to those sent. . making gods in the likeness of men .(blasphemy) From where the pagan gods come from. Satan the counterfeiter .

Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked. And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker. Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people. Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,Acts14:10-14

The Chinese and Hindus believed that their god reside inside the idol. Thats why they pray and offer food stuff, joss sticks, flower at the alter believing that their god will protect them.

I've seen spirits in white cloths without face running out from the idol when I cast hem out in the name of Jesus because the family just believed in Christ and my church need to help to clear the idols away from the house of this newly believed brother..

Scripture has documented evidence that pagan deities are not real. Read about the OT prophets who defied the pagan gods and then Jehovah God showed forth the He alone is God. 1 Kings 18 starting at verse 17.

Amen brother. Idols come from man's imagination. Surely a lying demon will act like Dagon, Baal, etc. given the chance. There is only one creator God and He reigns supreme over everything. God has reassigned some dominion temporarily to mankind and the devils use that for their way in the world, within limitations. Mankind, without God, has nose rings that Satan steers them with. 5oh-no.gif

Hmmm, so you think humans had an idea of there being a Deity, and from that idea we now have all of these examples. So, you don't actually believe there ever was a Deity, just a human idea that became a reality throughout time.
