The holy spirit is quite capable of communicating to us ..there is only one mediator between God and man...trouble is there are many voices ( in between) . It is better to wait on God who is the one we seek an answer from .. He is never late and always on time... who is it better to receive instruction from? Man or God? Since it's Gods plan.. better to hear directly from the One who is in charge of it..

question......did a prophet introduce himself as a prophet or by the words that were
Spoken the person was declared a prophet?

Answer these questions, then i will answer yours. Is there any verse in all of Scriptures, that teaches it is evil or wicked that a prophet say he is what God made him? How do you know they did not say they were a prophet. Just because the Scriptures does not record one saying they are a prophet, does not mean they did not announce they were a prophet. Only men in this generation teach that anyone who professes to be a prophet, can't be a prophet because they profess themselves as such. Scriptures do not teach ANYWHERE that if a person says they are a prophet that they are evil, wicked, or not a prophet, that is what this wicked generation teaches, and Scriptures does not teach. What? is it wicked if someone have the Gift of Healing saying they are a Healer? What? Is it wicked if someone who has the Gift of tongues, and they says they speak in tongues are then wicked? Where is it written in all of Scriptures if someone has the gift of prophesy and can prophesize future events, that they wrong to say that God has made them a prophet? Am i then evil and wicked, because i tell you the Truth, that God made me a prophet? Have i ever even once boasted of this? No. Since when is telling the TRUTH considered evil and wicked? Oh wait, i forgot what generation i am speaking with, calling that which is good evil. i tell you the Truth, that God has made me a prophet, which is the Truth, and this generation says i am not a prophet because i say i am a prophet. lol, they that think they are wise, are ignorant. Show me any verse that says i am wrong to tell you what God has made me? just one.

2. What's the difference between someone having the word of knowledge and someone speaking prophecy?
Someone who has the Gift of Word of Knowledge has knowledge of that which is the Word. They KNOW and understand the Word of God, because they have the Word of God knowledge. Those who have the Gift of prophecy, God has revealed to them something that is going to happen, either audibly, or by Angels, or by Dreams, or by Visions. But this generation because they absolutely refuse to believe the Truth that prophets exist today as they did in the past, will say those who have the gift of Prophesy, that means they can understand the prophesies that have already been prophesied by prophets of old. lol, they know not the Truth. Anyone who knows and understands the prophesies that have already been written in the Word of God, have the Gift of the Word of Knowledge, to understand those prophesies. Leave it to this wicked generation to kill the prophets, even as they did in the past. Those who teach prophets do not exist today, are trying to teach people not to listen to the TRUE PROPHETS that do exist today, they will not escape the wrath of God when it comes upon the World.

If the word of God never is distorted, then why is the Bible chock full of warnings about deception?
The Word of God was distorted, the hundreds of other versions that popped up in the last days, claiming to the be the Word of God.

See, anyone can say they are a prophet and if the hearer believes that, then should they listen to the prophet or should they listen to God?
The anti-christ can claim to be a prophet. Hear is the Truth, you are to try the spirits to see from wence they came. If anyone who claims to be a prophet, teaches anything that is contrary to the Word of God, which is GOD, they are a false prophet. How can it be any more simpler? If someone says something, and it is contrary to the Scripture, then don't listen to that one. Now if one come claiming to have revelations from God, i would listen to such a person. If one claims they are prophet, i would listen to that person. If one claims to have special revealtions, i would listen to that person. BUT if anyone said something that was contrary to even a single verse in Scriptures, then that person is FALSE, and should not be hearkened to, no not for a second. (unless, because you love that person, you try to help the person see the errors of his/her way)

I sure know which one I am going to listen to

Since Jesus was the greatest prophet who ever lived, well, His words are as choice gold and precious silver and He does not lie and He does not misrepresent God and He does not curse those who disagree with Him...this is still the time frame wherein whosoever will may come and God help anyone who prevents another from personally knowing God by standing between that person and their Maker
The KEY: If what is being said, is contrary to even one verse in Scriptures, than what is being said is a lie, and is not from God, but from satan.

Wait if the word of God was in fact distorted from the hundreds of other versions then how is the word of God even credible at all?

Scriptures teach that interpretation belong to God.
leave it to the last days generation, to interpret the Word of God as they see fit.
Homosexual activity is rampant because people interpret several verses to mean something other than what they plainly teach. But leave it to the last days generation to interpret those verses to fit into their OWN way of thinking. And even create versions of the Bible which Changes those verses to what men's interpretation of those verses mean. If you don't like the version of the Bible you are reading now, just go find you another version that fits your own belief. There are versions that will condone all manner of wickedness, so just keeping searching to find the right version, and when you find that right version that fits YOUR belief, then call that version the Word of God, and then you will be Heaven Bound. God Forbid, there will be much weeping and gnashing of teeth, and that mournful Day.

Interpretations belong to God, NOT TO MEN!!!!!

The scripture is very clear on not only the office of a prophet but also how to verify whether or not one is, one of the things a prophet will ALWAYS do is speak according to Isaiah 8:20, and the one message common to all prophets is the words our Savior spoke when beginning his earthly ministry: "repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand", by prayer and study one never need be deceived. remember there were (are) prophets of false gods as well, however a true prophet never is self appointed or draws attention to Himself, but rather draws others to the words of truth spoken into the hearts of the hearers. Shalom

The Bible doesn't actually say that. Paul lists being an apostle, being free, and having seen the Lord while explaining his right to live of the Gospel. He doesn't say you had to have seen the Lord to be an apostle.

Most of the apostles, if they wrote everything, did not add any of their writings to scripture except for a couple of paragraphs that they sent jointly with the elders of Jerusalem. Do you think the apostles wrote nothing at all other than this, or are there apostolic writings missing from our Bibles in your opinion.

I think some missionaries are apostles, and that some who do not cross national boundaries are as well. Notice that Ephesians 4 tells us that Jesus ascended on high and gave gifts to men. The twelve were made apostles BEFORE the ascension, and Ephesians 4 talks about AFTER the ascension.
Paul saw the Lord being taken to the 3rd heaven besides...

Acts 1:21-22 (KJV)
21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
Paul revealed many mysterys which were hidden in OT times e.g. rapture, Christ in us etc.
If you use the title of apostle to designate a missionary...fine, they just aren't in the same class as the original 11+1.

There are some other issues we need to consider. At least certain gifts require us to get something 'on-the-spot' from God. They are synergistic, rather than monogistic. God has to work with us and cooperate through us and we are dependent on getting something from him to operate in them. A clear example is prophecy. If someone just stands up and prophesies whatever he wants from his own mind, that's not genuine prophesying. If someone can prophesy, He can 'hear' or perceive the message the Spirit gives him and speak it out. But he has to get the message to speak for it to be prophesying.

The apostles did miracles, signs, and wonders, but apparently, even though they had the ability to do miracles, they had some degree of dependence on God to do a miracle in an individual case. They had done many miracles already, but in Acts 4, they prayed that God would stretch forth His hand to heal and to do signs and wonders for the sake of His Servant Jesus. If miracles and healings were totally done at the will of the apostles-- like Superman using his heat vision at will--then why would they pray that? Why would Peter kneel and pray before raising Dorcas/Tabitha from the dead?

The apostles casting out demons, a kind of miracle, was also dependent on their faith.

Some people see the gifts and manifestations in the first part of I Corinthians 12 as a one-time-thing, that one healing is a gift, one prophecy is a gift. 'Gift' is a broad term, and something that is ongoing and repeatable can be a 'charisma.' But why couldn't a one-off thing be a 'charisma'-- a gift granted through the grace of our Lord?
Not sure your point but ALL true gifts are dependent on God for their reception and effectual use.
It's through the healer God heals and through the Prophet God reveals, but only as and when God sees fit.

What version of the bible isn't created/assembled through the gathering of various found early manuscripts?
Any good version (most of them are) can produce just as many heretics as the next good version.

The credibility of God's Word is found in the Holy Spirit. The problem is that there is no reference to the bible being the Word of God. Anytime the "Word of God" phrase is used it is indirect reference to Jesus Christ and every Word spoken by God. ie: "Thus says the Lord" or "The Word of God came to me and said". The bible is a record of what God, Angels, men, demons, satan and Jesus said. On the other hand the "Word of God is Alive\Living" and is always ever present in order to accomplish what God sends His Word to do. It is a modern concept that some how ink on paper is the Living Word of God. The Living Word cannot be captured and placed on paper with ink. Words written on paper are not alive, those words can come to life when the Holy Spirit gives those words on paper Life. The idea that some how God's Living Word is bound in ink on paper leads to bible worship [Idolatry].

Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.
(Matthew 24:11)

testing & rejecting false prophets ≠ despising prophecy.

the sort of thing that false prophets teach is that anyone who tests & rejects them is without question a swine & hater of the truth. they may say, 'oh yes, i encourage you to test what i say' so long as your tests come up positive. but their tune changes pretty quickly when they come up negative. then out come the accusations and the condemnation, and the woe is me, i'm so persecuted, as though the correction that was deserved is evidence of their genuineness.

but how do we test them? against the revelation we know to be true. that Spirit who entered into us when we heard and believed the gospel. the author of those living words preserved for us in the scripture. read them, speak them aloud - they are life in your mind and bones, and in your ear!

They are not just idle words for you -- they are your life.
(Deuteronomy 32:46)

What version of the bible isn't created/assembled through the gathering of various found early manuscripts?
i do not know, i only read the version that God has protected for over 400 years, i only read the version that has been saving souls for over 400 years now, i only read the version that many of our Christian Brothers and Sisters have died or been killed to protect it. i read the version that was INSPIRED by God to make it come about. i do not read other versions which groups of people deemed the KJV unfit, or old, or wrong, or corrupt, or in need of an update, or they thought it needed to be improved, even though it has been saving souls for over 400 years. No i do not need to read any version that comes from the interpretations of men from the last days generation. ( even though those last days men interpreted the old manuscripts themselves )

Any good version (most of them are) can produce just as many heretics as the next good version.
This is True. However the KJV does not produce any heretics, that is like saying the Word of God produces heretics, which is not True. Misinterpretation of any version, KJV included is what produces heretics.

Again, before the stone throwing begins, i am not saying any version is evil, Any version that can bring a person to the Lord Jesus Christ, is not a bad version. But here is the Truth. For all English speaking people the KJV is the Word of God, and no other. Let the stone throwing commence.

So you believe the canon of scripture was open and inspiration to write scripture was available until 1611?

You can't go by the TV prophets. It is false teaching which says prophets only give warm fuzzy messages. I have delivered the opposite and was not very happy to do so.
I've been trying to figure out who the 'banned' woman is someone keeps accusing me of being.. I think I may have found her in this thread. lol.

I saw your post above RussellJBenigno and I agree, true prophets do not give all warm fuzzy messages.

What a shame it is that the body of Christ can't stand to be corrected and only want to hear sweet ear-tickling nothings. Ohhhh the error in the church today! The remnant is small indeed!

I don't usually announce my office publicly. I have done so here, because we are making a point for conversation and learning purposes.

Almost all the prophets were hated and murdered by those who held to the letter [worshipers of the bible\Torah] and not the spirit. And it is the same today. When Jesus returns many in the church will fight against Him.

I do not think people should assume titles or be concerned with them = Titles stink of pride & self importance. Just as going around claiming to have met Jesus in person when in reality the boaster only had a dream about Jesus also stinks of an attempt to make people think they are somehow more special than others. If having a dream or a vision of Jesus means they've literally met Jesus then I can go around telling people I've met Him too. But that would be a lie because dreams & visions, although they are from God, do not classify as having had a direct visitation from the Lord.

One poster in this thread said no prophet or apostle in scripture spoke of themselves as being one. Well what about Paul? He authored Corinthians, Romans & Galatians and he called himself an Apostle in all 3.. He even said that he was called from the womb. Does that mean Paul was prideful? -- Heck no.

"Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes" - 1 Cor 1:1

He also authored Romans:
"Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures" - Rom 1:1-2

In Gal 1:15 he says "But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb"

I agree wholeheartedly with you RussellJ that true prophets are often despised - especially when words of correction must be given.

I might also say that both prophets and apostles are first servants.. Paul often introduced himself as a servant & then an apostle. The humility there is obvious.

I'm going to read through this entire thread, very interesting. I'm not sure why I've been accused of being some woman who got banned, but now I'm curious! Is the woman I'm accused of being the same lady in this thread?? - So far I haven't seen anything that would merit her being banned, but I don't profess to know what happened either. I think I'll read all her stuff, assuming this is her! lol.

Wrong crossnote! What will you do with this word severally ? Look it up.

Speaking of the gifts: 1 Cor 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

BTW God doesn't take back a gift, so if He has gifted you with prophecy and tongues, He will not swap them for any of the several gifts He may be giving you altogether.
I realize this woman isn't here any longer, but I just wanted to leave a note on it.
First, I agree with her.
Second, although God's gifts are given without repentance, we can 'bury' them through the law of non-use. The parable of the talents describes how a servant can 'bury' what they've been given by not investing into it in order to grow it. Giftings can be lost that way and it would take a lot of work for the individual to dig it back up and start functioning in and practising it.
I think people need to realize you don't just one day wake up and know how to use God's gifts. There is a learning process and it takes time. Jesus was in training for 30 years before release.
