You offer good advice. I am in agreement.
Sorry, I was not directing my previous post (post #1078) at you per se, but mentioned it to all parties concerned, in general way. It may of seemed as if I was singling you out and that was never my intention. My apologies if you felt I was.

For the public record -- no worries. :)

I have. I would also like to point out that I have seen many Christians give positive reviews of books on atheism. Just because someone doesn't agree with all of the ideas that are in the book doesn't mean that the book as a whole isn't well written and enjoyable to the person reading it.
I watched and interview with an American philosopher, I don't think he was a Christian apologist -- though he may have been -- in any case he made the point that atheists have all the best arguments, but that he was still a man of faith. Wish I could remember his name. :)

Athiests believe in God or they wouldn't be so angry.
I wish I had a nickle for every time I talked about this. Waters, atheists are not mad at God. Pick a god you do not believe in the existence of, say Jupiter or the Aztec deity Quetzalcoatl. Now, tell me if you are angry at them. :)

When I was an atheist, I simply did not believe God was real. That is how many atheists see it. A few atheists see Christianity as an evil that needs to be eradicated. That type gets banned in a few weeks as they start to show their true colors. Then another type of atheist wants to argue/debate and get you to see things as he does. I was none of those. I felt if a person had a religious belief, it was none of my concern.

Then in a short period of time, my paradigm fell apart. I suddenly became convinced that the spirit world was real. With in two months, I was a full blown Christian.

I have a confession;

I am a witness to genetic mutations

in my area the lizards are evolving into mammals - the first step is they lose their tails

my cat keeps bringing them home to play with:rolleyes:

Psalms 100:3 KJV
(3) Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

This can be true in the mind of the author of Psalm without being a reflection of the true nature of the world. Atheists make a distinction. It is not evidence of your position. You still have to demonstrate the truth of the claim.

Cute cartoon, but as every evolutionist knows, natural selection and its genetic component do not work by chance alone. You would have to build into the snowman a mechanism that dictated unless he was made within certain specifications he would die or be unable to reproduce. Oh, wait a minute. Snowmen can't do either. Oops. Doesn't count then as an analogy for evolution, sorry; but it is still a cute cartoon. :)

funny, God DID create such a mechanism; to ensure species STAY WITHIN their own kind

Well I highly respect different cultures or religions, but for an atheist to not like 911 for religious reasons isn't an excuse. Just because one radical group did something in the name of God, the religion don't deserve a bad name or reputation. Just like the crusades...those were not done by truth so...I don't like it when people pin that on Christians. Muslims shouldn't be treated bad for what these dumbo did....they are actually quite peaceful people. My friend is a devout Muslim but nothing compared to these people. And I never once debated or fought with him about our beliefs...it actually brought us closer as friends
I have noticed that some people tend to underestimate the "hate". People hate. Some of them use religion as an excuse for their hate but the reality is that hate exists, is a powerful feeling and it has become an ideology (we hate everything that is different from us). A good start from stoping the hate would be to look at what unite us, all.

You and I have a different understanding of the potential for evolutionary change in part because you do not recognize that evolutionary change has millions of years within to operate. Think about it, following the Great Flood the only humans on earth were members of Noah's immediate family. These individuals would have all belonged to the same racial group. Since then humans have evolved, or genetically radiated, into numerous types and if this level of change continues apace what would prevent us from diverging further? How different might we become from one another over longer periods of time? There is no mechanism within evolutionary theory that would prevent new human species from evolving. No one denies micro evolution. Macro evolution is simply a whole lot of little micro changes added up.

Not sure what sort of hate you have in mind, but what you've brought to mind for me is the hate Islamists have for all things Western. I don't think that type of hate is quenched by reason.

you are wrong

the genetic diversity was contained in the women; Noah's wife and his 3 daughters in law

Japheth's wife was white

shem's wife was browny red

ham's wife was either black or asian

noah's wife was either asian or black

DNA has demonstrated we have a common male ancestor

and even FURTHER BACK we have a common female ancestor ie EVE

NB God ensured that creatures only produce AFTER THEIR OWN KIND = HORSE + DONKEY = INFERTILE!!!

God can change DNA if and when He wishes to. I see no issues with that as I have no need to be constrained to a "no God" axiom as many skeptics are.

This has not been proven with the scientific method. It is only assumed.
You may not agree with the truthfulness of the statement, but this is how evolutionists understand evolution to work, and in our view it is proven.

I am an Atheist, and I am happy to answer these questions. Please understand that applying sweeping generalizations and stereotypes to certain groups of people is rather hypocritical. When you ask for someone else's perspective, I expect that you will try to actually consider it from their perspective. Therefore, this answer is from the Atheist perspective and not as a truth.

Most Atheists do not get mad at God, Anymore than we get mad at Santa Claus. What I think you might be referring to is why a lot of Athiests seem "Angry" and this is true. A lot of them are Angry, not at God, but rather at the people who they feel have told them lies. Again, I'm not saying that you are living a lie, not at all, but this is from an Atheist perspective. A lot of Atheists were once theists. We were told things as truths that we now consider to be false. Imagine how you felt when you learned that your parents lied to you about Santa?

We don't blame God for anything. Again, we do not think there is enough evidence to conclude that: 1) God exists; and 2) that a supernatural being cares who you go to bed with, and on what day, and on what day you work, and what day you don't, and whether you lie, etc. Again, a lot of us came from a belief system, and we eventually we unable to square the circle, so to speak. For example, I was on a plane with a woman and we were discussing plane crashes (nice, right?) and we were discussing a recent plane crash where the skilled pilot was able to corkscrew down from the sky on one engine and no hydraulics. 110 people died in the crash, but 280 people survived. She turned to me and said, "Its a miracle that the pilot was on the plane. Thank you Jesus." And that, right there, is what I'm talking about when I say squaring the circle. See, she looked at the situation where 110 people lost their lives, and saw God's hand in that as being kind. Atheists would see God as culpable. So its not that we actually blame God for everything, we blame the idea of God interfering in our lives.

We can tolerate other religious views. In terms of theism/atheism, we atheists are outnumbered. We deal with religion every day in our lives. We don't believe us as superior anymore than a fundamentalist believes themselves "holier than thou"

I think you have a misunderstanding of the word "theory" as it relates to science. A theory is not a theory in the same context as everyday speak. A scientific theory is a hypothesis that has been proven. Evolution Theory doesn't say that we evolved from monkeys. Nay nay. Evolution states we have common ancestry with primates. Remember, a monkey is a primate, but not all primates are monkeys. Apes, Chimps, gorillas, etc., are all primates and they are, effectively, our cousins. We even share the similar DNA to plants. Its beautiful really, it means that every living thing on this planet is intricately connected.

Again, words have precise meaning in science. Outside of science, you might say something is 'just a theory', meaning it's supposition that may or may not be true. In science, a theory is an explanation that generally is accepted to be true.

A hypothesis is an educated guess, based on observation. Usually, a hypothesis can be supported or refuted through experimentation or more observation.

A scientific theory summarizes a hypothesis or group of hypotheses that have been supported with repeated testing. A theory is valid as long as there is no evidence to dispute it.

Please understand that you do know what its like to be an Atheist regarding Zeus, Apollo, Horus, Dionesis, and about a thousand other Gods that you don't believe in. The only difference between you and me, is that I took it one god further. I'm not wrong for my views, as you are not wrong for yours. Surely you can appreciate that there is mud slinging on both sides.

I hope this answers your questions.

It's not the people we have a problem with. It's religion. And it's not Muslim religions, it's all religions.

Please don't brush off 911 like t was no big deal. It's not only 911 and Islam. The Catholic Church for example is responsible for the death and torture of billions of people across history. The crusades, the torture of Galileo for being right about the planets and the sun, the inquisition, the pope's lie to the people of Uganda that condoms spread HIV, the tacit approval of the halocaust (hitler was a catholic), and the purposeful obstruction of justice and the facilitation of the rapes of children.

Is that reason enough for you?

And when people tell me , "that's not MY religion." Or that's not "MY God", I have to shake my head.

We all agree that irrationality and bad ideas about how the universe works is bad. What do I mean? Let's consider the parents of Madeline Neumann, a 11 year old girl in Wisconsin that died of a treatable condition because her parents prayed her to death.

Madeline's parents loved her, as much as any parent would love their child. They wanted her to get well, as much as anyone would want their child to get well. They just had a very bad idea about how the universe works.

So what's the harm in religion? It promotes the mechanism that creates people like Madeline's parents.
