I wanted to go through the bible cover to cover and thought that others might want to do the same. So...I have an outline on how to read through the bible in one year- or extended. I posted the reading outline on here for each week. My thinking is that if we have comments or questions we can post them on this thread. Discussions can be done in the BibleStudy chat room. Let me know if you are in or at least would like to try. If a person misses some of it they can review the posts. Anyone can start at any point and should not feel discouraged if they miss out or can't keep up.

You can copy a verse and go to this website: http://www.biblegateway.com/, then paste it into the search box. It should pull it up even if it is abbreviated. It is really simple and would take some probably 10 min. You can select several different versions of the bible, including the King James Version. I figured because some of us already spend this time idle on the site or looking for an inspiring thread, you could pull up another window and get your reading done too.
Hope this helps!

I find that I do better not breaking up the books & reading from 2 or 3 books in one day, thats just me though. Kinda like I dont read 2 novels at once I found it distracting to read genesis & matthew at the same time I like to keep my focus on one thing at a time. I do think I'll do this though but just focus on reading what I can in a day with reflection & see how long it takes to get through the Bible again. I find sometimes I get wrapped up in Gods word & cant put it down so I'm curious how long it will take me. Excellent idea & plan but I think take it one step further & if its interesting you dont stop just cause its part of the next weeks reading.

Looks like the same thing my pastor handed out. Its not that reading from begining to end is a victory. Its learning and learning the meanings of God and asking the Holy Spirt to guide you while you read. We can read until the day we die and never know all of what is in the bible.
Its reading in certain places of the bible for a time in your life that those words will help you in the time you are going thr.

isnt it amazing and validation that this indeed is the word of God. For what other book could you read daily and learn from daily for years and years and years and years and still not know all that is contained therein.

I read a half hour a day or more, how I like to do it is I like to bicycle I go out in the country or to other towns and on the way I stop every so often and read a few chapters. It is wonderful hearing the breeze and birds and getting away from everything. I live in a beautiful aria with horses and a river and creak and hills and trees fields and the different seasons to watch it all grow. Last week I got swarmed by hundreds of bees that was a different experience it made me nervous but it was fun.

were you reading revelations when you were swarmed small one? :) I've never read my bible outside... I never read outside here, like to keep alert for bears & stuff... Now we have a perimeter fence I probably could do that without worrying about looking over my shoulder... sounds nice.

My property in paticular is 1/2 hr from town on a hillside surrounded by bush with a lake... I have a few REAL good bear stories! Its been a couple years since I had one right by the house though so thats good! (then again, just when you get your guard down you open the house door & theres a furry black friend looking ya in the eye) kinda unnerving & I'm thankful it hasnt happened in a few years. Fenced the yard for the safety of the boys (at least they'll hear something if he has to climb a fence to get to the yard). I love it here though, it truly is God's country to me. snow n all.

I think I have went over board, but here are my outlines to the first 3 days. I think next time I'll just pick one thing and write a paragraph.. lol

Gen Ch 1-3
Creation and the Fall outlines.
· God created all things good, and the pinnacle of his creation was mankind: for we are in his likeness.
· Creation of a helper for Adam. Adams helper Eve is to compliment Adam. I think we know from this that the two become one flesh. I remember a pastor telling me if you can imagine two pieces of plastic melting together, they melt into one. This gives you an idea.
· Man was to work the land and keep it, I take this to include Eve, he was to look after her.
· The serpent tempted first the first humans, the main thrust of this was pride, they wanted to be and see like God. The Serpent was crafty indeed as he led them into this evil with lies based on truth.
· A good point here is to notice Adam, he stood back and watched his wife (Eve)take the fruit, yet he was neglecting his divinely given duties. This is a good lesson for Godly men.
God brought punishment on the first couple yet he provided grace, His righteous justice had to be exacted, yet because of His love towards His creation he provided away forward with His grace. The couple are expelled from the garden.
Being expelled is more than, being turfed out, work was now by hard toil, labour was going to be painful.. and then there is the Death question, I think there are two ways this happened.
1. Spiritual death – The same as Paul describes in Romans, also we know from the Noah episode that ‘men where continually evil from their youth’ , Gen 6:5;8:21.
2. Physical Death, although not immediate, this shows God’s grace again. But death does surely come.
All this judgement yet God shines through with His grace and the first hint of the Gospel (Eves offspring)

Gen 4-7
With the disobedience of the first couple , we see how God’s ordered creation is flung into chaos, with the first humans, continuing, Cain and Abel then Lamech, we can see the violence get worse and worse.

Something remarkable happens at the end of Chapter 4, Seth is Born, then (4:25-26) and the people start calling on the name of the Lord.
Two points of God's grace are noticeable from the Flood story.

  • God, does not wipe out all of mankind even though they are continually evil in His sight (Genesis 6:5).
  • It is only by God's grace that He allows a new start for mankind through Noah and close family (Genesis 6:7-8; 7:13).

Due to the increasing evil intentions/wickedness of humankind, God was going to destroy what He had created (Genesis 1:1, Colossians 1:16). Through, knowing Noah as a righteous man (Genesis 6:9) God showed His grace by starting afresh with Noah who had found favour with God (Genesis 6:8).

Even though the Flood is judgement on sin and, the evil intent of man, God's grace shines through the story. Human sin/wickedness does not change with the Flood (Genesis 8:21),

“The very same condition which affords the grounds for God's terrible judgement ('every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually,' Genesis 6:5) is also the grounds for His grace ('for the inclination of the human heart is evil from his youth.' 8:21).” (William la sory. suvrvey of the Old Testament)

The Flood story shows God's love for His creation even though Humankind are continually evil. And, even though He judges sin His grace provides a way for us to be in a right relationship with Him (Genesis 8:20ff).

Most of the prologue, has dealt with sin and how God has judged this sin and at the same time God shows His mercy towards mankind. At the Babel incident, mankind was scattered across the earth and languages confused so that there was no repeat of the incident, this was judgement from God.

In the Babel sequence there is judgement, yet no signs of grace. The genealogies of 11:10 show us God's sustaining grace that take us to Abraham, where, God makes a Covenant of grace with Abraham and his seed. .

Fall through Genesis 1 – 11 we can see God’s grace, man sinning, God Judging in righteousness and God showing His grace. For me, God is the one coming after man, man is continually evil in his heart yet God shows grace to him. However, at the Babel incident there is no grace but Judgement…. This leads us into God’s glorious plan of redemption, for through Abrahams seed all nations will be blessed.

hi all, heres another part, Thats great shanaynay that your son is doing it also, you both can do it together, thats great :)

Job Ch 1-2

Chapter one, as far as I can see, shows Job’s character a man who ‘feared God’ was ‘blameless and Upright’ before God, He was also very wealthy.

Job cared for not just his families’ physical welfare, but also their Spiritual welfare. After the feasts of his children, even though they would be adults he called them and offered ‘burnt offerings’ for them, this was for sin and incase, when maybe drunk they had ‘cursed God in their hearts’. Job continually, offered the prescribed offerings for them. He feared God himself and on behalf of his family.

Job’s first test

Satan again makes an appearance, his crafty ways are not dissimilar to that of his cruel and devastating work in the garden in Eden. I think he wants to prove to God that none will love God without his gifts and protection, still determined to destroy God’s good work of creation (yet fallen). God shows him Job, God Himself calls Job a blameless and upright man who fears God and turns from evil.

This part shows God’s control over all things, he allows Satan to bring disaster on Job, but does not allow him to hurt Job physically. God is always in control.

This is one of my favourite parts in Scripture. In one day, Job’s children are all killed and his wealth taken away from him.. yet in his hurting distress, and through dep pain, what does Job say?

“The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord”

I can only pray that this is a lesson to me on wholly trusting God in every situation. His children are dead and everything he owns is gone.. yet through the bitterest of pain, Job can still say, ‘Blessed be the name of the Lord..in all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.

Job’s second test

Satan challenged God and lost, yet he still wants to prove a point, so God allows him bring agonizing illness on Job, yet he is not allowed to kill him. God is always in control of everything.

Poor Job, was now grief stricken and covered in agonizing boils, and his helper (wife) turns and says, “do you still hold your integrity?”, “curse God and die” I find this interesting as this is what Satan wants… for Job to curse God and die. It shows how we are used by evil as his wife’s taunts reflect satans conversation with God.

Job rebukes her, and in all this Job, did not sin.. through this deep grief and pain, he remained a man full of integrity. This on its own is a huge lesson for us, that no matter what situation w find ourselves in we can have assurance that God is in control.

Just as a further note on my above post. The Major element so far in Job, is the Spiritual warfare going on. Job has no idea why he is suffering, yet The Sovereign God of the universe is in control.

Jobs friends, use the misplaced idea thta it is some sort of unrepnted sin on Jobs part, yet Job remains truthfull.

Well, hopefully someone will carry on with the conversations.
