That is not the reference pertaining to the topic. The verse you are thinking of means "masters" and it uses the word "not many".

King James Bible
My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
James 3:1 Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.

It could possibly mean "of the teachers of the Jewish religion".

Are you worried about condemnation? It is actually a mistranslation that means "judgment".

Romans 8:1 ¶ There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

I would argue the other way. You are burying your talents in the sand which you will be judged for if you don't:

Matthew 25:25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
Matthew 25:26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
Matthew 25:27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
Matthew 25:28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents

I think people who don't want to teach are burying their talents.

I also think they are avoiding this verse:

Hebrews 5:12 ¶ For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

You are also not where you should be in the Christian life:

Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

If you don't teach, you haven't grown up.
In my Bible, the Revised Standard Version, Jesus is quoted as saying we are not to call ourselves teachers. I will not call myself a teacher. God is the teacher. He will have us witness to each other, and you can call that teaching, but we are not to call ourselves teachers.

He's also passed on..........
So you have to be hated to be a true believer?......that don't sound right...

I've always liked Billy Graham. Many of his crusades are on tv and he is still being used by God. He was an evangelist I'd say more than anything else. An amazing man of God. Thank God for men like Billy Graham.

Thanks for mentioning these books...I just ordered them. I'm a firm believer that our western mindset has severely diluted the true gospel of the grace of our Lord Jesus.

Been meaning to order from Amazon a book about Smith Wigglesworth but came upon the name of a hymn writer named Frances Ridley Havergale some months back as well. She wrote the over 50 well known hymns 2 of them favorites of mine.

At 3 yrs. of age she was reading complete books. At 9 she was writing and rhyming poems. Studied in Europe for many years. Spoke many languages as well as Hebrew., Latin and Greek as a young teen. Memorized the Psalms, the book of Isaiah and the 4 Gospels! Actually memorized them as well as the book of Revelation. A child prodigy who went from being a happy child to a very depressed young adult as she was concerned about her sins after becoming saved. 1 John 1:7-9 was of great concern to her.

She wrote to her sister during Advent in 1873 about how she learned what true consecration was about and how being a child of God, Jesus had the power to cleanse from all sin not only those in the past but in the ever present. She said if we don't believe this we limit Jesus power not only save completely but to keep us completly. That we are continually cleansed from past and ever present sins today and He keeps us cleansed as it were we are completely cleansed because He is alive after the power of an endless life.

The word "cleanseth" gave her glory and great hope and joy as she began understanding the power of Christ's blood to go on cleansing and is an ever present cleansing that does not go and come back but one that remains as a fountain of cleansing and she believed in it's fullness to keep cleansing at all times. She said we remain as it were in the fountain because we are in Christ.

This was one of the most exciting and substantial revelations to her and she likened it to electricity. The 2 hymns she wrote after this revelation were "Like a River Glorious" and "Take My Life and Let It be"

Here is a woman who understood the grace covenant and understood the knowledge of His grace that took her through to believing in the fullness of Christ working in her so much so that on her death bed she was at perfect peace and knew all was well because of Jesus.

There is a lot more I want to read about this particular woman as well as Mr. Wigglesworth who found the very same amazing truths I'm only beginning to see. She read the Bible in Greek and Hebrew. Yet just like us, she was in need of clarification of what cleansing means.

His methods often involved hitting, slapping or punching the afflicted part of the body. On a number of occasions his approach to persons suffering from stomach complaints was to punch them in the stomach, sometimes with such force that it propelled them across the room. When challenged on this, his response was "I don't hit them, I hit the devil"

Sounds like Todd Tently?? It is actually Smith Wigglesworth... Yep I am sure I read in the bible jesus and the apostles healed by punching people in the stomach???

QUOTE: (using a phone ...cannot always get the quote feature to work..sorry)

(In my Bible, the Revised Standard Version, Jesus is quoted as saying we are not to call ourselves teachers. I will not call myself a teacher. God is the teacher. He will have us witness to each other, and you can call that teaching, but we are not to call ourselves teachers.)

Ok...so like...how do we explain the GIFT of teaching as described in the NT?

For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,*so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.*We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;*if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;*if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,b*do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. ROMANS 12

The Bible does not contradict itself, so have we found a contradiction or is there more to to what Jesus said?

Jesus spit in their eyes....at least one time....the religious world of today would "freak" over that....there is a manifestation of the Spirit ( which I know some people deny it's for us today ) that is called "working of miracles "...all this can be summed up in this scripture below..

1 Corinthians 2:14 (NASB)
[SUP]14 [/SUP] But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

John wrote that there were many things that Jesus did that were not written down......selah....people that deny the working of the Holy Spirit will always be antagonistic towards anything and everything...

.albeit...still some things can be done in the flesh too but we don't throw the baby out with the dirty water...

Wow, you guys sure spread your brains around!! I've noticed I can read and study one book at a time along with my Bible. I only know 2 names on your list., Joseph Prince and Andrew Wommack. I prefer J.Prince right now because of His consistent references to the love of God in Christ for the believer and Jesus commitment to take care of the sheep of His pasture. Also the importance of tongues in the believers personal walk and edification. And healing for today most certainly.

In these days of so many things going on and how because of the internet, our world is much smaller and we have access to finding out what is going on in the news all over the world when it is going on. We could be very dismayed if we looked at life without the assurance that we are in His hands by faith. Secure in His love and watch care of us.
I have noticed not all believers accept this is a fiesable approach to life but for me it is the ONLY way to life.

Many believers still think we are going to be judged along with the world. Many don't understand that Jesus took all our judgment on the cross so we do not have that constant fear and expectation of judgment or wrath. We are loved and in the shadow of His wings. Yet many Christians do not walk in that. Or read Psalm 23 as if it were real.

With him it often worked. But not all have the same gift of healing,

The lengths some people will go to? Are you seriously suggesting that Jesus using saliva (spit) to heal someone is the same as Todd Bently and Smith Wigglesworth violently punching, slapping and kicking people?

You do know the cultural background of the saliva thing?

Amen!...or the "working of miracles".....usually there is a "work"..that happens as can be seen in Jesus..making clay and putting it in their eyes...

...spitting in the eyes on another occasion ( that would freak the people out that don't believe in the gifts of the Spirit..Jesus would be mocked all over the internet for that one )

Jesus laid hands on people constantly to transfer the power and blessing of God to people.

Yes valiant, Andrew Wommach in the beginning of his ministry was greatly distressed and ashamed. When he believed a guy in a wheelchair would be able to walk so A.W. lifted him up and then was shocked to his core when the man fell crumbled down on the floor.

phil36., Just as God made each of us unique and special; we each see life differently, react to things in life differently., and do things in life differently than the next guy. And some more than others. I prefer to hear a preacher who does not yell. While others like to be hollered at. There are millions of people in the world and each one God can use even if they are not "perfect" If you've lived on planet earth for very long you realize not to condemn someone for being very different than you. Who knows, maybe someone considers you to be strange?

Well said!.....we are all different and we are all growing...do we all make mistakes?..yes...every one of us does....should we make videos of their mistakes and mock them?

These people need to be dealt with by their elders in their own church environment.

Who here would like to have their mistakes and failures mocked at by the world like some Christians do to others in the body of Christ?

1 Peter 4:8 (NASB)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.

The main problem we have around the internet is that hardly anyone meets the requirement below.

Galatians 6:1 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.

Yes, I've observed may Christians being angry when it comes to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. A realization hit me some years ago about how to tell when "I" was really walking like Jesus.

How did I deal with, and how did I feel about someone who did wrong? If anger and a lack of mercy and love was my position shown and coming out from inside., that was just ME satisfying my flesh. It was not standing for God. It was in fact... me, using a truth of God to consume it upon my lusts. Regardless of whether a person was misrepresenting the Bible truth of a doctrine or an interpretation of a verse. It didn't matter if my response was self satisfying. What mattered was how did I behave in light of that?

How we behave and why is what God is looking at and what we will be responsible for to change. If anger and sarcasm and meaness is the goal we are looking to hit someone with., it's using God for our own gratification.

Hey...don't you think its time folks started to
try to be fair?

Todd Bentley is not any sort of example...There are people right here and now that can attest to God's healing

Do you suppose Jesus asks people today if they know the cultural background of Israel before the Holy Spirit operates in their lives?

I think its great to study and learn about cultural backgrounds etc but not as an excuse to deny healing or any other
biblical truth
