Greetings,

I don't know that this is going to be a fancy initial post to a thread. I just am thinking a lot right now about the blood of Christ, and His death...

It began with that website I visited - yes, the one that confused my faith - but that website really pressed the importance of trusting in the Blood alone for salvation.

Honestly, I didn't know for 17 years exactly what I was trusting in for my salvation. At times I was trying to earn my salvation by my own efforts at keeping the New Testament commandments (same thing as Jews attempting to keep the Law). I long ago gave that up, but I think there is another false trust that I held to. I believe that I was trusting in my buddy/buddy relationship with God to save me. I mean, I have been somewhat of a Christian for more than half my life, so talking to God just becomes normal and you begin to think that you are maybe saved because of that.

But the truth is, that "without shedding of blood is no remission."

Matt 26:28
"For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."

We are saved by one thing only, by faith in that precious blood that Jesus spilt for us upon the tree.

John Wesley:
"With all zeal and diligence confirm the brethren (1) in holding fast that whereto they have attained - namely, remission of all their sins by faith in the bleeding Lord, and (2) in expecting a second change, whereby they shall be saved from all sin and perfected in love."

I just found this quote online from a Charles Spurgeon Sermon:
My hearers, have you come to the blood of Christ? I do not ask you whether you have come to a knowledge of doctrine, or of an observance of ceremonies, or of a certain form of experience; but I ask you if you have come to the blood of Christ. If you have, I know how you come. You must come to the blood of Christ with no merits of your own. Guilty, lost, and helpless, you must come to that blood, and to that blood alone, for your hopes; you come to the cross of Christ and to that blood too, I know, with a trembling and an aching heart.

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

Refrain
On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

Nothing but the blood of Jesus! We are washed from head to toe. So when the Father looks at us he sees Jesus.

Hebrews 12:24 contrasts Jesus' blood with the type found in the blood of Abel. The type is that our sins cry out to god for justice, but Jesus' blood speaks more powerfully than that, the price has been paid.
