Even if one may not believe in devils, many mental problems are brought on by un-forgiveness. I think many medical problems come from un forgiveness and doctors would agree with me.

Can a Christian be demon possessed?
someone claiming to be Christian, maybe.
Someone filled with the Holy Spirit, No.
what is it?
when a demon not only whispers in a person's ear lies and temptations to sin, but takes over a person's body and speaks from a person's mouth. typically the possessed person may have no memory of the action they do while under possession. they give their control over and stop thinking and channel the demonic spirit exchanging the use of their bodies most often for forbidden power or knowledge. Sometimes the person who has been possessed will talk about the mystical experiences of a paradise like dream world they visited while their body is being destroyed by the demon and the demons is sowing seeds of hate and making those around them not trust the person being possessed.
Demon possessed people typically either control and oppress those around them or do things that pushes everyone away from them and keeps people who might cast them out at odds with the person and whispers lies to break the ties with people that love them because love weakens their control under their host.......ummmm maybe I've said to much......

I don’t know what demon possession is.
Once, though, I had developed an unhealthy drinking habit. I had decided to limit myself to a certain number of beers one night, but when I reached that limit, I kept drinking.
I woke up in the middle of the night, and I could have sworn I had demons in my head.

The Old Testament prophesied that possession by unclean spirits would stop.
Zechariah 13:2, Zechariah prophesied there would be a day coming when the prophets and the unclean spirits would be removed from the land. As we read the entire chapter, we see this day is tied in with the age of Christ’s sacrifice and covenant. In other words, the period of our covenant is marked by the lack of prophets and unclean spirits.

Not denying that we all have free will. But then would you say certain psychological disorders like MPD or even turrets and bipolar are concious decisions by the person affected? The line has to be drawn somewhere because not everything regarding ourselves can be described as free will. Like my heartbeat or physically growing, they cant be turned on and off with free will. Maybe demonic possessions are similar.
Do psychological disorders affect your eternal life?
My father was bipolar. I mean SERIOUSLY nutso. There is about 20% of people who suffer from this disorder where medication cannot "control" it. My father was of that 20%.
He was a dangerous man, and at one point mine and my sisters life were in danger.
MY father passed away in 1993. Do I think he is in a better place? I don't know for sure obviously, but yes. No, he wasn't in his "right mind" but God is a just God. He is a loving God.
Did this disorder affect his soul? I doubt it.
When I think of demonic posession I think of it as someone who is possessed by a spirit to where they cannot control themselves, and their soul is lost. They have no choice, but Hell.
Like we have the ability to accept of deny God. If we accept him then we have a home in Heaven with him. If we deny him, well...Satan is our landlord. We have that CHOICE.
I don't believe that once we become Christian we are automatically going to Heaven. We have to live a Christian life. I do believe we can fall away, but we also can come back to him. It;s all about choice. We choose our path. God and Satan does not choose it for us.

how do you explain the NT prophets after the covenant was made? How about the spirits that Paul and the other disciples cast out of people?

And as we stayed many days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Judea.
also Revelations tell us that before Jesus comes Satan, the beast and the false prophets will send out three spirits which are demons to gather the nations for war against Jesus.
are you saved through grace from God or by your own choice?

When i was in nepal,we used to minister to posseseed ppl almost every week,ther is a very good lession i learnt from it, we can do nothing on our own,i have seen scream teh name of Jesus and command the demon to come out and the demon would just laugh at them,i have seen ppl worship and demon would sing with them would sing praises with them its strange isnt it...
Its not whos name u use, i have seen christian beaten up trying to cast a demon out of a lil girl,their strength is unbeleivable, i have seen a man speak in voices that would just bring much fear..if ur truly follow christ it cannot posses u,it might bring stuff to scare u but it cannot possess u.
Demons are scared of ppl who pray,seek and fast in private place.

we have to remember it is not magic words or rituals that cause demons to leave but the power of the Holy spirit working inside believers.

13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “We[a] exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” 14 Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so.
15 And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?”
16 Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them,[c] so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
