When one looks for a church, does one want a church that believes exactly as he, or she, does, or does one want a church that will provide a group of loyal friends?

How about a church that teaches the bible and the bible alone.

Rev 12:17
And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Choose a church that has these people that the devil doesn't like. They must be on the right track otherwise he wouldn't be wroth with them.

That's a good joke. I've been to many different churches and ALL of them and their followers without exception claim to follow the BIBLE precisely and accurately and that the other churches have it amiss.

If a church follows your ideals and beliefs it will only aid in making you feel good about yourself. Making you feel at home and confident.

But if you would like my opinion of what a favourable church would be, i would give it gladly. For I know what I am looking for. Still struggling in the search for it, but sometimes I get a little bit of hope here and there. But here we go...

The church should be led by the Holy Spirit. The message given on a Sunday, must be not taken out of experience or out of what the person would be a good sermon, but the words he received word for word from God. For if the preacher at the meeting don't hear the word of God, then there is no reason for there to be preached.

Secondly the Sabbath must be kept as a Holy Day, and the members of church must come and sing and worship God together on this day. The Sabbath is not for sermons, but if one receive a prophecy let him prophecy. On this day, the church members must come together in their families and pray for one another for various things of need. The entire day must be consecrated to God.

Tithing should not be because of money, but instead it must be like it was meant to be. Families must hold a feast with a tenth of their income in honour of God. And they must invite the widows and their children and the widowers into their gathering. And the ministers must come to the various households and bless them and eat and drink with them and feast with them. On the feast no one is to be drunk but to by Holy unto God and bless and thank God for everything that has happened to them. They must take care of the ones in their family group and see if they can share and help them. For this is what true tithing is according to the LAW of Moses. For it was commanded that that which is given in tithe may NOT be money according to the LAW. For what purpose would God need to make His house filled with Money... He made everything, He made the streets of Heaven out of Gold. No. What He wants is the love and the unison in families that correct tithing brings. For this is what He want His storehouses to be filled with. LOVE. For if there is a widower not having food, then you would go out of your way to aid them. And this way you actively showing love. And the same with your family. It is a time when each member gives thanks openly for things God gave him/her, so they can learn to be thankful and loving towards God and recognise the hand of God in their lives.

The church should NEVER ask for money. IF someone wish to give someone money as an alm, this is good. But according to Jesus this must be done, but NOT in the open but in secret. So God can reward you. As for the church. IF someone wants to learn more about God, no course must cost money. For freely you have received and freely you must give. Jesus was so ernest about this that He fed five thousand people just to show how important this principle is. For His commandment to His disciples were this...you feed them. If someone comes to Christ, learn about their gifts, learn the various aspects of Christian life...this all MUST be free.

Then fourthly the gifts of God must abide. The fruit of God must be constantly in the place. The youngsters must be brought up in the way of the Lord. Understanding the grace of God, but also understanding to what effect their actions could lead. They must learn to respect and admire God and live out His commandments and get taught how to hear the voice of God since youth.

Praise and Worship must be done unto the Lord. People must learn the value of truth and learn not to lie. Worship must be done truly and faithfully. People must learn their gifts and callings upon their lives and how to use it to the glory of God. The people must learn how to abide in Christ and to walk in the Spirit and to worhsip in the Spirit. People must go out of their way to aid others. Go out of their to find out why someone wasn't at church, and not backbite him/her if she didn't make it.

Let's start with those things first. Get those things in a church.

I believe that as children of God...we must not forget that we are the church..we are the hands and feet...Christ is the head and we are the body (1Cor. 12:27) Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

However, in responding to how to select a church I believe you must pray and allow the Holy spirit to lead you. Not all churches are teaching the truth of the word of God. There are so many self made religious beliefs that are aiding people in a long term visit to hell... Everything that you are seeking has to line up with the word of God...Are they teaching truths/biblical truth...the gospel of Jesus Christ...God will take great measures to speak to you about where He wants you to be...Total reliance on God!!! There are peoples lives at stake and playing with God and the people He loves is not advised in any form....Chruch is not about what we want but is totally about what God wants. When we put our own agenda before Gods will then all hell breaks loose.God must be glorified and not man...amen

(12) Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Find one where sermons begin with the words "Open your Bible to". A true preacher will teach God's Will and not his own.

Then, bring your gifts and talents. Use them for the sake of the Body.

A person can be very lonely, especially after the loss of a loved one. A good church will go a long ways in providing the friendship and support one needs when they are lonely.

That of course assumes that God's will is solely discernible in the Bible. But teaching to most Christians is not the primary function of a church anyway, the Eucharist is.

A wafer?

The Church's function is to carry on the Great Commission: Preach the Gospel and make disciples of every nation. From Acts 1:1, on, that's what the disciples did. That's what we should still be doing.

No mention from the origional twelve about carrying a piece of bread or a wafer saying "THIS is Jesus".

You need to read all of Paul's letters, dude.

That's a good joke. I've been to many different churches and ALL of them and their followers without exception claim to follow the BIBLE precisely and accurately and that the other churches have it amiss.
What's also a joke,is when they hold unto a belief in a certain subject of the Bible, that you can use scriptures to show that their belief cannot be right, that is clear to be seen, they still hold unto their belief and cannot believe the Bible says that in the interpretation, and will not harmonize scriptures.

That goes to show you how much people hold unto the doctrines their Church teaches, that they will interpret scriptures to go along with those beliefs,or ignore them if it seems that they can't interpret them to fit their belief, thinking I do not understand that scripture and cannot harmonize it with my belief, but it is only because I do not understand it,but I know the interpretation cannot go against what I believe, for I have the truth.

Choosing a Church that is the truth,in today's society, would be laborous and much study, leading to weariness, and fatigue, and stress, leaving a person in a psychiatric ward babbling,it can't be done,it can't be done, because they have confused me with all their different beliefs,to where I don't know what's up or down.

I am only joking, but only pointing out that it is ridiculous all the different beliefs out there.

I'd go with that the beliefs must be the same. Good friends, christians or not, you may have that believes different than you, but as for church fellowship all should have the same beliefs. And if one takes doctrinal unity seriously, then ultimately it will mean good friends when such unity is experienced.
Ps.133

[1] Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

When family members die and one is left alone, it is good to have a supportive church.

And a supportive church would be a church that has good unity in beliefs, me thinks.
It takes an effort to be supportive. Either the church puts forth that effort or it doesn’t.

If it has sound beliefs and doctrine - it will. If not - it won't. That's how I see it.

You seem to think I said that the sole function of the church all the time is the Eucharist, and what I meant was it's the focus of Christian worship. Or to steal a phrase from Luther the purpose of the church is to "rightly administer the Sacraments"
