You see the times I remember reading about Jesus talking about hell wasn't to scare someone into submission at least I didn't take it that way.....

It is quite obvious my Blond mind doesn't think on the same wave length your mind thinks....scare tactics just don't work with me and I am not the only person in the world that thinks that way....Love does work and God uses what works with people and I would venture a guess that Love preaching works better than scary hell preaching.
JL, go back and quote me where I used the term scare tactics...........you have no idea how I witness, what verses I use and how I approach people who are lost....your still missing the point....hell/lake of fire is biblical...GOD TURNS MEN TO DESTRUCTION and EXPECTS THEM TO REPENT...argue with God about TURNING MEN TO DESTRUCTION and EXPECTING THEM TO REPENT......He is the one who penned it, testified of it and warns men about it...not me...All I can do is quote scripture, make the sense known and give a reasonable response to the message!

Just curious.... who here "snapped to", and fell in love with Christ because they were threatened with Hell?
Please read the story of Jonah.

I get my butt off the couch and spread the good news...
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15
that's a command...the rest is up to the unbeliever to believe.

I think you need to remind yourself who he was warning about hell DC.

Did he talk to the woman caught in adultery about hell?
Did he badger the woman at the well about Hell?
I know this line all too well, and I have been resisting asking DC to go look up all those times Jesus supposedly preached conversion by fear.

I was CoC. I, myself, preached that sad excuse for a message, and I am ashamed of it today. Truth be told, Jesus drew people to Himself with nothing but love.

Hell is a just punishment and we ALL deserve it. Only by Christ's blood are we saved from our own earned fate (for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God).

An example of why it is just. If you kill a bug, no punishment. If you kill a Dog, large fine maybe jail time. If you kill a person, potential life sentence. The punishment fits the crime and who it was perpetrated against. So what happens when you commit a crime against an infinite God? The punishment must be infinite.

If someone murders someone else, but spends the rest of their life not killing anyone, are they free of guilt for the murder? No. In the same way, if someone transgresses against God, but lives the rest of their life a "moral life" they are still guilty of the transgression and owed their wage of sin.

If you still think hell is unjust, i just have to ask, who are you to say what is just or unjust? The only reason anyone is saved from their righteous punishment of hell is because God paid our debt.

O.k. we both need to take a step back.... I am remembering preachers using the scare tactics and that is what I am referring to and for me and a lot of other people that is very off putting....

You are assuming also that I don't have anything to do with the hell teaching and we may understand the end result of hell differently from each other but we both believe hell being an eternal end of the wicked as stated in the Bible.....

We both agree that it is the Holy Spirit convicting and convincing of sin...But you catch more flies with honey than vinegar and in Salvation you are going to have more pay attention to the Love of God than being afraid of hell and turning to God as I just don't see that as a true motive for repentance... But that is me...not someone else but I also have heard many people say they want nothing to do with Christians and their hell scary preaching.

To me that means that God has not been presented to them in the right way....Because there is much more about love in the Bible than hell and if you put the mentions of love and hell on the scale love would far out weigh the hell....that's all I am saying....

Why do you and I have to butt head when we meet now and then?.... last time I checked we are suppose to be on the same side...

Remember satan is the enemy not you and not me....we are suppose to be brother and sister in Christ....you know....love your neighbor.....

Sorry if I got your dander up and I will cool mine off.....here let's have a cookie....peace, love and tranquility....please let it abound.....in Love.....Blond...

You naturally assume that I poured the heat on and scared people into confessing.......and like I said above...your missing the point and seem to look right past the obvious many times when you post WILLIE......

Quite simple.....Does the bible teach about hell and the lake of fire...YES or NO
Is it biblical to witness, teach and or preach about hell and the lake of fire....Yes or NO
Did God inspire the writers to testify of hell and the lake of fire...Yes or NO
Did Jesus forewarn people about hell...YES or NO

NO WHERE did I IMPLY to use scare tactics....I simple stated that it is found within the WHOLE COUNCIL of GOD and is not to be rejected, denied and or failed to be taught....so tell me.....How can hell help someone who is saved, sealed, justified and sanctified positionally in Christ?

Why is it offputting to you?

and why would you deny salvation to the ninevites? My cousin came to christ after a fire and brimstone sermon. Just because the truth makes you feel uncomfortable doesnt mean it isnt necessary at times.

Amen and I am not mad, upset and or trying to bump heads and if you really knew me you would know that I have never been for (scaring people into heaven).....my point has always been that it is found in scripture and cannot be overlooked and or swept under the rug.....P.S. We are not catching flies :)

I think it's a matter of brokenness. Jesus loves the humble but opposes the proud. There is so much suffering in the world and so much of it is and has always been children. Only God can peer deeply into a persons soul and see that wounded child within. The reality is that the more we worry about ourselves and our own behavior and attitudes, the better we will be at revealing Christ to this broken world. We need to hold ourselves to a higher standard than we hold the world.

This.

Sharing the truth of God does not mean laying out honey for the flies and ignoring those sour sections about hell and sin. It means sharing the truth about God. All of it.

Killing people who do not follow God is also in the Bible, but I think we are missing ALL the teaching of Jesus if we go out "preaching" the worst things we can find. Especially when what Jesus told us to do was to do no more than go tell others about the kingdom.

There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that we can justify ANYTHING Biblically. ANYTHING! I could even take things I am convinced are against Jesus' will, and "PROVE" them to be the ONLY path to follow by selecting certain verses, and ignoring the overall message Jesus believed in, and taught.

in my human mind I don't think it's just..and if I was God I would do it differently, but who am I right?? And I don't believe we all deserve eternal torment either...but I can't run away from the truth God gave me either...

“It [the doctrine of eternal torture in Hell] is a doctrine which the natural heart revolts from and struggles against, and to which it submits only under stress of authority. The church believes the doctrine because it must believe it, or renounce faith in the Bible, and give up all the hopes founded upon its promises.” [Charles Hodge, Systematic Theology (New York, 1871), 3:870.]

- My friend back in NY - Mallory, got saved because she knew she was going to hell without Christ

in MY human mind
I dont
if I was god
I would
I dont believe

im glad you realize the truth, but think about which God is prevalent in these statements. It isn't THE God. It is your god of self.

Amen !

And that problem is exacerbated by all those apparent contradictions,
the vast divergence of interpretations by genuine, sincere, Christian scholars,
the books which were excluded because they did not concur with the dogma of the day and
the bits which have been added along the way.
