I posted Greek, to Latin, to English.

You ought to look up "Septuagint". It is an ancient translation of Hebrew scriptures into Greek, and that volume has been translated into English. So I'd say you are incorrect about not being able to translate (or transliterate an original or translated word) anything in Hebrew in Greek or English words, of Arabic, or Latin, etc.

IOW, our English name "Jesus" is adopted from the Latin "Jesus" which was derived from the Greek "Iesous" which was derived from Hebrew "Jehoshua", or Joshua, interchangeable with Yeshua which is interchangeable with Yehoshuah and YHWH/"Jehovah".

So why not comment on "I AM"? God told Moses to declare "I AM" sent him.

in the OT, the greek text for YHWH is Ego Eimi Literally translated

Ego being translated I

Eimi being translated to be, to exist, to happen.

Interesting enough, when jesus said before abraham was, I AM, these same two greek words are used. To say I AM only he would have only had to say Eimi, because literally translated, it is translated by itself as I AM or I EXIST. Adding the ego in front of the eimi, makes it more than just I Exist, or I AM. it is the words (in greek) spoken to Moses on the mountain. (It does not matter if Jesus spoke in Greek or Hebrew, they would have caused the same response, they fell backwards)

the point is the greek words Ego Eimi is the name God gave moses in the dessert correctly translated into the greek. The problem is, the English translation (I am who I am) is lacking, I believe a correct translation would be, I exist eternally, which is what both the Greek and Hebrew words are trying to denote.

After communicating the various opinions regarding God's name to my very good friend (who is a born again Jew and is quite knowledgeable in hermeneutics), I submit this conclusion:

People, including believers, often go to extremes. Christianity, is subject to the pathologies (or enemy attacks) and degenerations that all of humanity withstands. So, the over focus on Y H W H is just one of many splinter variants. Many Messianics would NEVER call the Lord either YHWH or Yahweh, the most common pronunciation, also, as they would tend to follow much of Judaism which never attempts to pronounce the name of God. The "I Am That I Am" name from Moses' encounter at the Burning Bush, but used throughout the Old Testament. Jews call this the Tanakh, as they believe it is eternal, not old; but there is another definition one can run away at the bit with.) Many orthodox Jews will not even put those letters together in writing, but spread them out like this: Y and H and W and H. Instead of saying YHWH, they would say Adonai (Lord) or HaShem or Hashem, which means "The Name".

The Hebrew letters Yod and Heh and Vav (pronounced in ancient times as Wah) and Heh, (YHWH), is used as the personal name of God throughout the Old Testament. in most modern translations including the King James, you will see the words Lord and LORD a lot. If it's all upper case, LORD, the translation is indicating that in the original language it is translating the word YHWH.

There is a whole "Sacred Names Movement" among Messianic Jews and even more so among Hebraic Roots Christians which, while having some good thought at outset, gets absurdly and ridiculously extreme.

The whole up-tight thing is really missing the point, the Lord or the LORD's Grace! However, there are wonderful things within Messianic Judaism and Hebrew Roots Christianity. But just like any "denomination" it's subject to degeneration and sickness and pathology.

Every denomination or movement of the Lord has been so attacked, whether the Roman Catholic Church or every single Protestant Denomination, as well. (Protestants like to think only Catholicism fell victim to such things, but Protestants, Jews, everyone is subject to this stuff). Every denomination has been subject to many ridiculous side-theories. But the origin of the doctrine is good, and its core dynamics are provocative to truly lead a God centered life. So you can avail yourself of any denomination, whether Messianic Judaism, Assembly of God, and take the good, and leave the rest, or as it says in Thessalonians, “Hear all things, hold fast to that which is good and true."

People who are overly fixated on the name Yeshua or Yahweh will get irked at the mention of the name Jesus. On the other hand, we should try to be sensitive to what offends people, (or what gives them needless distractions), so in those cases, (probably the highest percentage of the time), we should use the words that communicate the most effectively to them. With a traditional or orthodox Jew, for example, you would not want to write out Yahweh, like that or speak it because it's too glaringly weird for them, quite often. And in reality when talking about God the Father, to say Hashem or Ha’Shem (The Name) or Adonai (Lord), steps around the controversy. However to some "Sacred Names" folk, they think that refusing to pronounce Yah-weh is a device of the devil.

The convention in Jewish culture to write, in English, God by using a hyphen, thus G-d has many reasons (and most Orthodox do not do that, as writing God, god, is NOT the name of God, again, but generic word for god, God, gods.). But one is to reference the reverential practice of not pronouncing the Y and H and W and H (or yod heh vav heh), and the other is simply to honor how Holy God is. For example, some might feel if the word God is written in a note or piece of paper, one cannot throw that paper in a trash can, but hyphenating the word is emphasizing one is not saying God's personal name.

In conclusion, we should just keep in mind that the most important thing is to love God with all your heart and mind and humble yourself, considering others above your own liberty. If something causes your brother or sister to stumble, refrain from it. We are all called to peace and to love one another in kindness and gentleness, showing mercy.

I hope this explanation offers some peace between those of us who have differing opinions.

"No man is supposed to utter His holy name." I've run across several groups holding such prohibitions and requirements, all causing great disharmony among disciples of Jesus our Christ.

The legalism of authorizing or prohibiting names of God is a tool of Satan to divide. Such was rejected by Paul, the undisputed expert of Judaism in his day, Pharisee of Pharisees, refusing to impose a single Jewish holy day on any Gentile.

Peter spoke Galilean Aramaic. That was but one dialect that gave away one's home locale or long-time associations. I've had many people in Canada immediately guess my state by my speech. That happened to Peter at the trial of Jesus.

It wasn't Greek, or Hebrew. He could read Hebrew, reading from Isaiah in the synagogue. Those He preached to knew Aramaic in several dialects, enabling general communication. What had to be written in Greek or Hebrew was the job of the scribes.

Now go figure how the world was supposed to exactly handle the name of the God the Christians preached in many nations....
you won't have a case. Other than written letters in mostly Greek and some Aramaic, that name would have been understood by the hearers in any language. Try transliterating YHWH in India's Telugu, Hindi, or Bengali languages! Reverse engineering can't return the Hebrew letters.

So it is that ever since those days some Jews have remained offended over the reports of the many names of God uttered by Gentiles. They also have remained offended at the name of Jesus, His doctrine, and the crowds assembled in His name. I don't believe it is the duty of Christians to adopt Jewish words to express the identity of our God, and Savior. For that reason there is no teaching in the New Testament concerning a requirement to adhere to any particular language word for His name. Those writing the original epistles in Greek or Aramaic could not have prepared their words for exact translation into languages with fewer, or more words than they used. From the Aramaic and the Greek the world now has hundreds of translations by language that when read aloud sound very strange, but however the word is told in them meets the needs of those people.

God is not upset with anyone not saying His name right like some of us do. He is not going to punish you for daring to attempt to call His name out or write it. He is after your fellowship, not your scholarship.

Latin was the language of the Romans there. Their speech had to be learned by others to be able to follow orders. The priests and scribes would have preferred Hebrew, but not dragging it before the Roman "swine". Pharisees would flaunt it, Paul speaking in that tongue occasionally in Acts. But never to people who spoke other languages. In Athens at Mars Hill Hebrew wouldn't have accomplished anything. Jesus spoke to Paul on the road to Damascus in Hebrew. Both knew it well, probably more accurately than using Koine Greek. But then in
Revelation 9:11 (KJV) [SUP]11 [/SUP] And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

we see an interesting twist on names. Same angel, known by two different names. Aside from Romans relying upon correspondence from Rome in Latin, they had an entire empire to look after, requiring knowledge of Greek, common to many.
So it is that archaeologists are mostly unearthing words chiseled in stone in Latin and Greek, while sales receipts of merchants are mostly in Greek. The counting system was universal, while the Latin was too peculiar and cumbersome.

There are probably a few hundreds of scholarly books written about this subject, so of course this isn't very scholarly. It can't be summarized on a page. But it isn't more scholarly to claim the whole world is being deceived over a few paleo Hebrew words.

When reading the New Testament we realize from the context which God Jesus spoke of, and the apostles. It is enough to know Him by faith, not letter of the law.

Throughout the entire Torah, Old testament, people have turned to Him, and turned back to other mighty ones.
This happened over and over again, where their lips spoke of religious matters, but their hearts were far from Yah because they were too busy adding more of their own commandments and traditions to what was already given, which He did not tell us to do. We see how it was repeated time and time again, but they would not listen, and finally the very city itself was destroyed.

That city has been restored again, but is headed right back into what got it into trouble to begin with, and when our Messiah returns, He's going to fix this for once and for all, wiping out the evil from the earth completely, not leaving anything left to chance and starting everything new, even the new earth and new Jerusalem which He has gone to prepare for us.

Those who are His know His name, and they call on Him by His name, and He calls on them by their name, and a new pure language will be given to them and a new name in that day. I want to know as much about what might be as I can, and so I seek to understand His will... not mine.

I think it's neat to read a chpt that use all of His Names. I'm still looking for one.
