The little plot of land in the middle east called Israel or did he promise to give him the whole world?
the little plot of land we call Israel became [a state] 1948,

the jews returned to there land.

Isreal the no. kingdom, lost to the world, is not back in the middle east.

the state of Israel is [not] the nation of Israel.

Amen! Makes me think of this scripture...
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.Ephesians 3:20 NLT

What was said, the promise, was enough for Abraham to comprehend but what God meant..was probably way too much for Abraham to grasp. The revelation, the full understanding of that promise was revealed to the ones who were fulfilling it (I.e. us and everyone in Christ before us)
That's how I see it anyway..
So when God promises, expect big lol
We have to keep in mind that back then everyone thought that each land had its own god. That was the worldview that Abram grew up in. When GOD promised him the land of Canaan, he was basically saying I will be your GOD, because you will possess (dwell in) my land. The blessings of a god went with the land, so they were inseparable.

But Abram knew that the redeemer was coming who would redeem the whole world. So basically it seems GOD was saying I will give this land to you and to your seed, the redeemer; and through him all peoples (nations) will be blessed because all land will become his.

Everyone who thinks the promises were only to the physical seed of Abraham needs to read Galatians chapter 3.

Gen 12:
12 Now the Lord had said to Abram:
“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Gen 15: [SUP]18 [/SUP]On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying:

To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates— [SUP]19 [/SUP]the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites, [SUP]20 [/SUP]the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, [SUP]21 [/SUP]the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”

Gen 17: [SUP]6 [/SUP]I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you. [SUP]7 [/SUP]And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you. [SUP]8 [/SUP]Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”

Nothng in any of these passages about Giving abraham the whole world.

Do not let KJV fool you. He can not use romans 4 out of context with these passages, and no place n these passages is Abraham promised the world.

He is promised

1. Many nations (not all nations) will come from hi, and their kings
2. A plot of land, Called canaan, God even set the boundaries
3. He will be a blessing to the whole world..

Thats it. period..

gal 3 only speaks of one aspect of the promise, the eternal aspect.

Not the temporal aspect. those are two different things

In case I wasn't clear: two Abrahamic covenants. The covenant in Genesis 15 and the one in Genesis 17.

they are the same covenant, not two different covenants, God was just reiterating the promises he made to abraham.

I see the temporal aspect as only a shadow of the eternal, not as two separate things.

To farther the concept of the temporal being only a shadow of the eternal, take this scripture for instance. Here we see that the physical descendant is of no advantage at all.

Romans 2:28-29King James Version (KJV)
[SUP]28 [/SUP]For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
[SUP]29 [/SUP]But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Then Gal. 3 tells us that the promises were really to Christ and all who are in Christ.

First the natural, then the spiritual.

But the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. 1 Corinthians 15:46

Not so sure about that. The second covenant was made at least 13 years after the first. Paul said a covenant can't be added to after it's been made.

Brothers, I am speaking according to a human perspective. Nevertheless, when the covenant of a man has been ratified, no one declares it invalid or adds additional provisions to it. Galatians 3:15

Abraham followed God because he had faith in God, instead of worshiping the lifeless, demon, Satan-inspired idols of the day that everyone else worshiped in the city of Ur. He put his hope in God and loved God. God promised him descendants as numerous as the stars, and as numerous as the grains of sand. Abraham waited years for a son, until he and Sarah lost patience and had a son by Hagar, Ishmeal. God used Ishmeal too, to also make him into a nation. Abraham was pleased god with faith.

Jesus said that God could turn stones into descendants of Abraham when the pharisees bragged about their heritage. THose who believe, put their trust, obey and love Jesus Christ the son of God are heirs of Abraham through faith. Jesus' earthly geneology through Mary goes back to Abraham and Isaac.

Joseph son of Jacob, renamed Israel, was a good servant of the Lord. He was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, then worked hard to become in charge of his master Potiphar's household servants, then was betrayed and falsely accused of rape by Potiiphar's wife, thrown in prison, after suffering he earned a good place in the prison helping out other prisoners. Joseph could interpret dreams a gift that God gave him. He was called to interpret Pharoah's dream, and became a leader second to Pharaoh in Egypt, saved grain and food during good harvest years, so that they would have food during the famine. Joseph's brothers came to buy food, and after giving them some trouble, Joseph forgave his brothers and his family moved to Egypt.

Another Joseph, the husband of Mary, stepfather of Jesus, had dreams warning him to flee to Egypt to keep baby Jesus safe. Both Josephs served God

.The meek also shall increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor among men
shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel

But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him:
your heart shall live for ever.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.

For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment;

seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger

This is the land God promised Israel. Any chance of this happening?
