I do enjoy reading the occasional "Christian book". They aren't God's Word, but I get some good life application tips sometimes.
Adore C.S. Lewis. I have just about everything he's written. I read the Narnia stories as a child...I can't even remember how...I think they were in the school library. (!)

A few years ago my faithful friend, Wendy, gave me a book I would have never bought, called "Losing Control and Liking It" by Tim Sanford.
I don't normally read self-help books, but dear Wendy knows what a recovering control freak I am. :(
I r-e-a-l-l-y recommend it to parents of teens or young adults.

I think it's amazing how the Lord can lead you to the truth in some Christian non-fiction, and also help you throw out what's not Him. ♥
But then, everything about Him is pretty amazing. :)

Oh, and I -t-r-y to read a martyr's story now and then, to remind myself that my life is pretty terrific, and that He can strenghten His children to the extreme! ♥

I would like to add that reading the bible is good and something we must do all the time..i do not see anything wrong with getting someone else's perspective on things..like the book i am reading now about where we stand to young outsiders, how the world sees us..Granted some may say it isn't important but i think it very much is! I also am finishing 'in a pit with a lion on a snowy day' its about the story of Beniah in the old testament, who was a bodyguard for King David..but it talks about how uncommon his response was to run towards a lion to kill it instead of running away. It's been a blessing..we run from our problems, our challenges, our insecurities and uncertainties..but Beniah ran towards it..and shortly afterwards this propelled him to a position with the King/promotion..being elevated. I dunno, it speaks to me..got that one for free at a local church i checked out..

My book is the Bible.... I don't see a need for most if not all ''spiritual'' commentaries books put out today..
Books on Biblical archaeology , and Secular Histories related to the Bible can offer more insight into scriptures I recommend author E. Raymond capt. as he is a good Biblical archaeologist, Among others.... Dictionaries like; Smiths Bible Dictionary ; Thomas Nelson ( Pub), or the Companion Bible by E. W. Bullinger ; Kregel Publications are also great study aids . Not to mention the Strong's Concordance ; Thomas Nelson (Pub). The spiritual books that people buy today can not, compare to the study aids listed.

I don't have time to read any of those until I know scripture from one cover to the other by heart.
Then I'll never want to see another word on paper again lol.
