The sabbath is nothing more than a day off. It was an unknown concept during Biblical times. Jesus clearly showed that it was not necessary to observe the sabbath as a law.
From my study, the sabbath did get forgotten by Israel at times and so did the other commandments. But God brought them back and in Jesus's day the religious leaders had made the laws a burden not a delight.
It was well known and Jesus helped to show how to keep the Holy.
Luk 13:15 The Lord then answered him, and said,
Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or
his ass from the stall, and lead
him away to watering? 16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? 17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
Mar 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
