1 John, Chapter 3

8: He that committeth sin is of the devil;
for the devil sinneth from the beginning.
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested,
that he might destroy the works of the devil.

9: Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin;
for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin,
because he is born of God.

10: In this the children of God are manifest,
and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth
not righteousness is not of God, neither he that
loveth not his brother.

Is this how you know the children of God
from the children of the devil?

Who does this apply too?

When I read this I say to myself...

who is this man talking about?

Is he talking about everyone on earth?

That's a very good verse you posted, and even though it does describe a child of God, there is another verse that comes to mind that answers your question. :)

Is this how you know the children of God
from the children of the devil?
Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Matt 7:16-18

Am I deceived to believe
this is true what this man here has written
about everyone?

If you commit sin
you are of the devil
and not born of God?

If you do any unrighteousness
you are of the devil and
not born of God?

Read the entire chapter. A Biblical example of an unrepentant sinner is Cain.. and therefore is described in verse 8. In 1 John chapter one and two, John talks to the Christians to assure them that if they sin they have an advocate with the Father even the righteous Jesus Christ. The Christians are known by their repentance if they yield to pressures. But 1 John 3:8 is describing an unrepentant sinner. One who is not even saved.

I want to make sure I understand you correctly...

You are saying to me that in the 3rd chapter of
1 John

when you read the whole chapter...

8: He that committeth sin is of the devil;
for the devil sinneth from the beginning.
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested,
that he might destroy the works of the devil.

9: Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin;

Does not apply to everyone who commits sin?

Does not apply to everyone who do not does righteousness?

Christians are exempt from this Scripture?

Is that what you are proclaiming to me?

There are several verses that you have isolated so what part of the scripture do you ask "are Christians exempt from this scripture?"

When someone tells me something I am reading word for word
in the Scriptures does not mean word for word as it is written..

This thought always comes to my mind...

And the serpent said unto the woman,
Ye shall not surely die:

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof,
then your eyes shall be opened,
and ye shall be as gods,
knowing good and evil.

In other words...

It is written word for word...

my Father is greater than I.

Does this mean the Father is greater than the Son?

Or was this just...

Jesus trying to trick me?

Do I believe that God was greater than Jesus
or that they are equal to each other?

Which?

You have posted 3 verses. verse 8 is describing unrepentant sinners. verses 9-10 is describing the born again child of God.

You are asking if a three verse text applies to the Christian.

Do you not know that Christians cannot be an unrepentant sinner?

Do you commit sin?

This requires only a yes or no to answer.

We will use you for an example so as you can explain
this you have said to me as it applies to you.

I have already stated it.

Not even good ministers of the gospel say that sort of thing to the Christians in the pew.

My participation is finished. You have a good day today.

Am I deceived if I believe that anyone
who is doing something to me or saying
something to me that is not right...

is not of God?
