Okay so do as I say and not what I do. That never works. I am not judging any one. Your defense calls you out. Pour another and come up with more stuff.

So you think they have pubs and clubs in heaven and they sit around drinking alcohol? There was no alcohol when God created the earth it was all fresh.
So Noah was the only one that knew how to make wine? I doubt that...

does this discussion remind anyone else of:

Pharisees: it's unlawful to do any work whatsoever on the Sabbath
Jesus: it's lawful to do the work of God on the Sabbath

So whats next, smoking pot. why not cocaine. I meant it's moderation right. What the hey, snort some heroin if helps you sleep.

The fact is you have no faith in the cross and whats wrong with abstaining. come on over to the weed for Christians thread. I meant if your gonna drink, might as well smoke pot too.
snake venom can kill you...but it can also cure you...
There are grass that very addictive...but the same grass can also be used in medicinal purpose.

would you blame God because he created the snake or the addicted grass...God forbid.

There are no scriptures that directly prohibit you to drink soft drinks like coca cola or use a computer, or smoke tobacco...
These are the product of increase knowledge.

they can be used in good and in evil...

Hopefully you are mature enough to differentiate their purpose.

Because I like you DC and just to split a frog hair 4 ways, Timothy was not a Pastor, he was an Evangelist...

2 Tim 4.5

[SUP]5 [/SUP]But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

neaner, neaner, neaner
Okay, since you gonna nit-pick, what goes around, comes around. It is "neener, neener, neener".:p

Luke 1:15, For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mothers womb..... This verse was talking of John the baptist, the words that Gabriel spoke to Zacharias.
This is out of context, John the Baptist, Like Samson and the Apostle Paul took a Nazarite vow, and not everyone in the Bible took a Nazarite vow.

If it has the potential to bind you, stay away from it. Look do what you want to do, that doesn't mean that it is a goofs Idea. If we are free then we are bond to nothing. Alcohol is binding, and it takes the cross of Christ to get free. I meant you can jump out of a fifty foot tree if you want too, that don't mean it's a good Idea. You can drink if you want to but that don't mean its a good idea. You can justify it if you want to. I can make the scripture sat there is no God if I want to.

What is the need, why do you want it?

dude, it is not binding.

I have drank off and on since I was 18. never been an alcoholic. never even came close.

the jews tried this. by saying even pulling a chair across your floor was against the sabaath laws.

why do you want to be like them?

and still YOUR IGNORING SCRIPTURE.

what comes first? Scripture. or Kerry's lack of faith that people can drink and not become drunk or addicted??

Kerry, I can respect your choices to abstain, but please don't come in the marijuanna thread and sarcastically advocate it. we have enough people who already see all marijuanna use as fine and the sarcasm just makes it worse. =(

I mean this with the utmost respect and love.

Let's face the reality of this topic. those who desire to drink are going to drink no matter how many scriptures are cited. Those who have no desire to drink are not going to be enticed to drink for the sake of drinking.

Does more good come from drinking than from abstention? Can money not spent on drink feed and clothe children? Can money not spent on drink support missionaries? Certainly but will any have the discipline to actually follow through and perform these good works?

Alcohol for medicinal purposes or for recreational purposes? There are complex and multilevel consequences to sin.

Drink if you want to. you have that freedom. My question is why? support the companies that provide for alcoholics if you want to. Spend your dollar well. Why what is the need? they needed it for water purification. The cross is not enough. you need something else.

The fact is. Scripture does not forbid drinking. So no scripture have been provided.

Who cares if someone has a beer, or if someone has a can of pop. Neither is sinful. Niether is keeping money away from orphans or children in need. And neither is hurting anyone!

funny you should mention this.

I have assisted many alcoholics. I even helped lead an in church alcohol and drug rehab ministry. I have seen the damage it can do (yet anything we do can cause damage if we really look at it)

I have also seen people offend non believers by refusing to take even a drink, or judge them that they are in sin, And also seen many non believers listen to the gospel as a believer has a drink with them. SOme even come to Christ.

You do not know me at all. Nor the things I do..

Notice the following and what the bible teaches the wine and strong drink...

Jesus turned water into wine--> John chapter 2
Paul told Timothy as a (pastor( to take a little wine for the sake of his stomach--> 1st Timothy 5:23
To drink wine with a merry heart--> Ecclesiastes 9:7
That laughter and wine makes the heart merry--> Ecclesiastes 10:19
Give strong drink to those ready to perish--> Proverbs 31:6a
Give wine unto those who are heavy of heart (depressed)--> Proverbs 31:6b

It comes down to the following..

1. Does it cause a weaker brother/sister to stumble or be offended Corinthians
2. Not to be drunk in excess Ephesians
3. Not to be (given) to it as in addicted or have to have it 1st Timothy
4. Being mature about it

There is nothing wrong with any one having a drink of wine and or strong drink as long as it meets the requirements above.
I have to say this.
But dcontroversial, thanks for such a simple, exact and focused answer about the matter.

Amazing post. God Bless you richly.
