The canon of scripture is closed, it says we may all speak in tongues and it exhorts us to earnestly desire the higher gifts especially that we may prophesy. You can't add your own ideas to that.
It says that the Corinthians are to prophesy and desire the higher gifts.

Preceding that is a look to the future when the gifts will cease.

So the application may be about us today.. but only if there is nothing to show the apostles sign gifts weren't foundational and completed their primary purposes before the 2nd coming.

And the primary thing that shows the gifts ceasing is the foundational purpose of the gifts through the apostles. This is where scripture can support cessation rather than 1 Corinthians 13 alone.

nonsense ... I suppose the more excellent way was only for Corinthians too. The bible says stitch about any gifts ceasing in this age.
