I don't know if we can tell someone how to have a relationship with our father. We do know everything he does now is based on grace, the greatest grace to be known to the born again is Christ in you
Then I called on the name of the LORD: "O LORD, save me!"
The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion.
The LORD protects the simplehearted; when I was in great need, he saved me.
Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.
For you, O LORD, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling,
that I may walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
Psalm 116:4-9

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him
John 3:16-17

It speaks of the different dispensation of law given on stones and law written in our hearts through the Gospel.

But it has always been by faith as Abraham exempified before the giving of the law. Righteousness was imputed to Him on account of His faith as it is with us.

Hebrews speaks to the fact that through Jesus we have better promises, a better Covenant, a better Sacrifice, a better Priesthood etc., all eternal.
Good morning....
Could you please tell me what you mean by a different dispensation?

We have always been saved by faith....amen.
Abraham certainly did have faith in God and obeyed Him....he left his home for God and always did what God asked him to do. Which brings up the question, then, of what is the difference between then and now...I do believe I went into this in my last post.

Hebrews does all that you say....

I think you may be mis-reading this
How?
Didn't he say that if we obey God we should have a nice life?
??
He didn't correct me. BTW.
It seems like he was saying that some don't obey and all is good,
and some DO obey and they have problems....
I'm not going to go back to read it again, but you could correct me.

This probably isn't meant for you at this time
What's not meant for me?
Why not at this time?

And if you're going to correct me, then that's what you should do.
This is a wasted post.

The hunt 'n peck system may work for some, but only as a dogmatic, spiritless understanding of the written words.
I hope you're not speaking to me.....
One verse, or two, mean nothing.
The O.T. and the N.T. were given for a reason....
To reveal God to us and His nature.
If a verse goes against that nature...it is not being understood properly.

Would Abraham be a good example of someone who was living without the law, as a model for the rest of us?
Good question....
Except Abraham lived 4,000 years ago, in a different place and culture.
I don't think we'd want to use him as an example for us today.

Isn't it wonderful how Jesus' example of for ALL TIME !

It is an interesting question. Did Abraham lie or only tell part of the truth? Sarah was his sister.
Abimelech did not find out if Sarah was married, he just took her.

God told Abimelech
"You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman."

Then God said to him in the dream, "Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against me. That is why I did not let you touch her.
Now return the man's wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not return her, you may be sure that you and all yours will die."
Gen 20:6-7

Abraham is a good example of Gods hand of blessing and His judgements are not simple.
God will prosper His ways and intention, and no one will stand in His way. Praise the Lord.
This is all true FHS,
but I can say I don't like everything Abraham did...
Although he did many honorable things...
Like making Lot pick the land he wanted...

I never thought of this,,,but maybe Abraham grew in his faith too.
Maybe this is why he had to be willing to sacrifice Isaac?
I think I have a moment of clarity !
Have to think on it.

While looking up the timing of the Abrahamic Covenant (it didn't happen all at once; there were different "stages")...

I came across this:

GENESIS 12:10-20
Abram knows full well how beautiful his wife Sarai is. He knows that a woman this beautiful would be highly desired, and that all that anyone who wanted her would have to do would be to kill him and take her.

And so Abram and Sarai agree to a scheme that they will consistently practice for a number of years – they lie about her identity as his wife, and claim the half-truth that she was his sister. This plan had a very serious flaw; it gave interested men the idea that Sarai was available for marriage.

Abram was trusting in his deception, rather than in God, for life and prosperity. Abram was seeking to survive at his wife’s expense. He put his wife at risk to save his own neck. In his mind, he had to go to Egypt to save his life, and he had to pass off Sarai as his sister for the same reason.

When they arrived in Egypt, it did not take long for Pharaoh to be informed about Abram’s sister and her great beauty. Innocently, Pharaoh took Sarai into his harem and was soon to make her his wife. I can only imagine the sleepless nights that were in store for Abram. He must have sat up wide-eyed every night, wondering what was going on between Pharaoh and Sarai. All the while, presents arrived from Pharaoh, part of the dowry he was paying for taking Sarai as his wife!

I am not sure I know Abraham that well. What were the commands etc he kept? We have no record
of them. We have summaries, and we have his life overview. I think God gives us this so we can see
he takes ordinary people and meets them over time. What is true for them all, is they bowed to His
will, and desired to know God.

I am impressed that at the end of our path, when we go and meet the Lord we will see His hand
and how He moved and guided us, and the glory He has achieved in our lives and the blessing it
has been.

I had not noticed before, God stopped Abimelech touching Sarah
"That is why I did not let you touch her. " Gen 20:6

The Lord can intervene as is necessary. It is truly a mystery Gods will and how He works everything
through. Occasionally I see it, and just stand in awe and wonder. He is our great Lord, Amen.

It's not easy to remember everything...especially the O.T.
I actually taught the Covenants (5 or 6 of them) but I'm forgetting a lot...
like where does Isaac fit into the timing, of which stage....

I also agree with what you said,,,that God could take a normal person and make him into a giant.
We also learn by mistakes....Ishmael was a big mistake....
History starts with Abraham and the nation of Israel still had a lot to learn.

We have the Noahic Laws,,,but I don't read about them in the Genesis account...
And, I'm sure that not having the 10 commandments impaired Abraham in many ways...
which is why they were VERY necessary by the time of Moses.
If only to set up a civil community within the Israelites who had been slaves for hundreds of years.

no.

not even close

try again

not debating with you. if you cannot take the time to properly understand something and continue to disagree for something the op did NOT say, there is no point

Hebrews does all that you say....
I gave you an example of two dispensations (God's ways of doing things), here it is again...

2 Corinthians 3:6-11 NKJV
[6] who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. [7] But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, [8] how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious? [9] For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory. [10] For even what was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels. [11] For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious.

The Book of Hebrews (chaps 1-10) is another example.

Well Crossnote....
Here's how I like to interchange information....
I'm not here to argue, BTW.

You said you gave me an example of two dispensations:
How do you know that I know what a dispensation is?
Mabye I do, maybe I don't.

Also, I like using scripture and will use it most of the time.
But I know what 2 Corinthians says...
Problem is...is it saying the same thing to you?
I've discovered on these sites that two persons could read the same verse and come up with two differing ideas.

So, I like treating everyone with respect, but I don't like to assume that you and I understand something the same way.

To me a dispensation is a breaking away from the O.T. and an acceptance of the N.T.
I don't agree with the above, if this is what you mean.

I've been told to look up stuff on the net...
I don't like learning this way and will only use it to post a link I agree with and explains something really well.

I'm taking time with this because I find this an interesting thread and will probably be here for a while....

If you prefer not to speak with me,,,that's fine too...no hard feelings.

That was subtle.
Anymore subtle than that, and I'm in bed with a high fever.
You have come off very strong and defensive in your responses causing others to do the same.
I've found it more productive to keep all the sand in the sandbox....just saying.😏😏😏😏

I'm sorry if it sounds like that.
It wasn't meant to sound the way you portray it.
It's just the way I talk,,,if someone doesn't care for it, they're allowed not to speak to me.
I very clearly stated how I like to interact...Don't know what more I could do.
